How do you know that a family is a perfect fit for your foster dog? When you take a picture for the final update and realize they are all standing the same. Today Petee left for his new home where he will have a new dog friend to play with (her name is Stella and she looks a bit like a fox) and he'll have two new humans to call his own.
Petee has made great strides during his pit stop in life. He is a much braver dog than when he arrived. He has learned that not all things are scary and that playing fetch, keep away, and tug are some kind of wonderfuls. There is no doubt that he will gain much more confidence in his new home.
Petee, we wish you nothing but the best with the start of your new and improved life.

Peter has settled in at his current home until he finds his perfect family. He is really hoping for a playful confident dog friend that will help him burn off some puppy energy. He loves to romp around both inside and out. Fetch continues to be his favorite game and he's finding the fun in keepaway as well.
Petee is getting a couple of small health things cleared up yet. His ear infection which was almost resolved has resurfaced. He is good at taking his ear meds as they are followed by scratches. He was also going through some loose stool issues. It is being maintained with smaller feedings throughout the day, very minimal treats (he's learning to enjoy carrots), and a dollop of plain yogurt in the evenings.
This friendly young dog goes for a morning walk on a long leash where he gets to roam and play out on the trails. His evening walks have recently been reined in on a short leash which he is doing fairly well staying on the left side. His afternoons are a mix of playtime and/or a walk and his evenings also have one-on-one playtime.
A playful dog friend may help burn off some of this puppy energy but he will still need walks and human interaction to continue with his confidence building, mental stimulation, and training.
If you aren't giving him enough attention he will happily paw at your leg and sometimes...he may pull your covers off at one or two o'clock in the morning. If he needs to go out for a potty break in the early AM he will continue to try to wake you up. If he just wants to play a couple of "leave it" requests will do the job.
After Petee gets to know you, he is going to be your best friend. You might not see it happen overnight and new places may always be scary but if you're into a routine he'll fall into it and fall in love with you.

Peter, Pete, Petee. With a living room, a downstairs level, and a bedroom filled with toys, you would think that Petee owned a toy shop. His favorite toy is still his large squeaky tennis ball. He enjoys playing both fetch and keep away with it.
He also learned that he enjoys a game of tug-o-war and he's getting stronger each time he plays, but is pretty respectful of his opponent. At times he will try to play tug with his walking partner too.
Petee is definitely on the high side of the medium energy scale and almost tips the scale onto the high energy side. He is still in a puppy stage so he will need plenty of exercise.
Recently Petee took up cross-country skiing. One would have thought due to his past life he would have been afraid of it, but he took right to it. Skis and poles clanking are not his favorite but jogging alongside, while you swoosh through the snow, he is more than happy with. Disclaimer: You may occasionally fall over if he stops to sniff new smells and you don't.
Pete has become very comfortable in a quiet outdoor environment and would do fine on a tie-out if he were to live in a country setting. If he lives in town, a fenced yard would be more suitable for him. He has come a long way but he still startles and shys from commotion (clapping, breaking glass, sirens).
Because his favorite training facility is currently closed, he has not had any formal obedience training, nor an at home training routine. Despite this, he is still learning commands, just a little slower than he would with more consistency. He is an intelligent dog that will excel in a home where training becomes a priority after he settles in.
Peter has an appointment with MNSnap this month to get a couple of things taken care of and after he is healed he will be ready to move on to his new home with his new person(s).

First thing first—Peter will be listed as available the first week of January. Here are some more things you might like to know about this incredible pup as you decide if you might be a fit to be his new family.
After an extensive survey of meeting people, it is obvious that Petee warms up to the female human quicker than the male human, but he likes scratches and playtime from both.
Dogs, he has only met a few, but he doesn't seem to care what gender they are. He has so far gotten along with all. Petee likes cats and loves to try to get them to run and would love to playfully pounce his 60 lb. body on them so there is a good chance he would like to do that with a small dog as well, but it is only a theory.
Peter is an athletic, fun loving dog that likes routine and consistency. Because he does not excel in adapting to change of environment and people, apartment living and / or wild parties are not going to be a good fit for him.
Doorways, strangers, and sometimes everyday human movements (such as sneezing and turning around) are still scary, but he now comes back to find out what he just ran away from. That is huge strides from a life he is learning to leave behind.
If you like the feel of a soft nose sniffing your leg or arm, or if you love really big tail wags hitting the side of your bed in the morning you are going to love Petee. If you are not ready for a dog that bounces, sometimes jumps, or tries to run off with your socks...while they are still on your feet, he might not be the perfect fit.
Petee has free roam of the house when his people are home or sleeping (he sleeps in the bedroom and no longer requires a baby gate). When his people are away he enjoys his time in the finished lower level not for fear of an accident, but for fear of chewing on something he shouldn't. Charging cords, socks, shirts, mittens, and paper towels are some of his favorites.
Some highlights for this wonderful guy:
- Does not care to get into or out of a vehicle but rides nicely
- Sniffs the top of the counter and table but has not taken any food off of them
- Clean bill of health
- Still relies on his resident dog friend for confidence
- Does not know sit or wait commands well but is starting to respond to his name more (he needs consistency with training)
- Enjoys playing while on his daily walks
- Needs one-on-one play time each day
- Loves fetch and his large squeaky tennis ball

Peter has advanced so far in learning how to socialize and face his fears. Is he perfect? It depends on what your idea of perfect is.
If the definition of perfect is: fun, lovable, active, playful, willing to learn, then yes, Petee is perfect. If your definition of perfect is: respectful of precious nicknacks, couch potato, fearless of anything thrown at him...well, he might not be that type of perfect.
Petee still paces at times when inside. It's not a nervous pace anymore and there are no signs of separation anxiety. Now it is more of a "looking for something to do" wondering.
He loves to play with his squeaky ball and enjoys a good game of fetch. He has learned he can run great on grass and carpet but is figuring out that he can't stop quite as quick on the hardwood or tiled floors. If you like Fred Flintstone, you will love watching him do his Flintstone burnouts when he takes off.
He would love a dog of similar size or larger to play with. When Petee is up to weight, he should be around 65 lbs. He is doing his best to get his dog friend at his foster home to play and every now and then she actually engages and he loves it.
Peter is an active dog and he would love for his new person to also be active and take him on daily walks (quick pace) or jogs and hiking and exploring. He is still in his puppy phase so he is a little mouthy and bouncy when playing but it is easily corrected with verbal cues.
Petee is now sleeping in the bedroom at night with his people. He is very respectful of the furniture and a gentle word off. He has his dog bed next to the people bed, but every now and then chooses to sleep under the bed. No questions are asked. He sleeps soundly through the night and will whine in the morning if needs to go out before you are ready.

Goodbye puppy mill life and hello to a whole new type of wonderful. Peter Parker, named after the actor who played Spider Man, climbed his way out of a tangled web of despair and into a beautifully woven piece of hope.
Peter has a stately name for such a stunning dog but he is nothing more than a puppy so he is referred to as Petee to match his growing personality.
Sometimes it is important to see where a dog has come from to understand where they currently are in their life stage. This is sweet Petee on his intake day. The transformation in such a short time is not only amazing but fascinating to watch.
Petee is now a playful dog when he is in his familiar settings. He loves to run and romp on his long lead and gives playful bows to his dog friend that he lives with. She's not much of a team player but he does his best to get her to engage in his shenanigans.
The more confidence that Petee builds, the more words he is learning. Such as "leave it", "not yours", "mine", "that's not a toy", "excuse me?", and "really???"
But, with all seriousness, watching him come out of his shell is worth watching him trying to steal clothes off the bed, remote controls off the couch, and cell phones off the table. He is currently watched like a hawk so that he doesn't steal or chew something he shouldn't.
He is also watched closely so he doesn't have accidents in the house (we missed a couple). Considering our friend Petee came from a place where there were no bathroom breaks, he is doing remarkably well.
Although he's not on free roam when left alone, he has always kept his personal living area clean. He sleeps peacefully through the night with a bathroom break around 9 PM and again between 6-7 AM.
Petee is currently living with two cats, one dog, and two humans. If his new home has a cat friend, it will have to be a very savvy cat. He is still young and would enjoy chasing it if he/she were to run.
This pup is nervous about meeting new people but shows eagerness to get some loving and scratches by the strangers and does his best to warm up to them. With the help of his dog friend he finds some much needed confidence to move in to steal the attention.
Mister Parker has recently found the joy of squeaking his squeaky toys and is even showing interest in playing fetch. An area that he excels in are his daily walks. He is most comfortable when he is out with nature.
Petee is a young dog with plenty of energy. He needs daily walks and one-on-one play time to help build muscle, strengthen his bones, and stimulate his mind. Without this commitment, his chewing of inappropriate items, nervous pacing, and jumping will increase to an unacceptable level.
While Peter has plenty of energy, he also enjoys laying next to you on the floor and loves a good belly rub. Petee is looking for that right person(s) that understands that quick movements and hiccups can be scary but not a cause to stop learning new things.
He is looking for a home where he can run around in a fenced yard with his dog friend and hang with his people inside the same room as the rest of the family.
