Introducing sweet Emma!  Emma joined the RAGOM family about a week ago and is full of puppy love to give.  Along with puppy love, comes puppy mischief!  Emma is an 11 week old, golden retriever puppy.

Emma was diagnosed with primary seborrhea, kennel cough and coccidia.  Emma’s adoptive family will need to be committed to treating any skin flare ups that happen due to seborrhea and Emma will need to be on fish oil, along with possibly other medications to help prevent and treat skin issues.    A high quality grain free food may also help her.  She is on antibiotics for kennel cough and coccidia, and has not shown any symptoms in a couple of days.  Emma is all UTD on her vaccinations and will be spayed this week.  Overall, she is a very healthy puppy, with some minor ailments that will be cleared up soon.

Emma is your typical, adorable puppy and needs a lot of stimulation, so she learns appropriate behavior and can grow up to be a confident dog.  Emma enjoys getting into a bit of mischief, as all puppies do.  Emma also loves to be picked up and always enjoys cuddling.  She will just melt in your arms when you pick her up.  At Emma’s age, we wouldn’t expect her to be house trained yet, but she is very smart and is learning quickly.  She does her business right away outside as soon as she hits the grass.  Emma keeps her crate clean and has not had any accidents in her crate.

She has had a few adventures this week, including lots of play time with our resident dogs, playing with Barbies and buddies, as well as just running free in the yard.  Emma enjoys all the play time she can get!

Please remember as you look at her adorable pictures:

·        Puppies are a LOT of work in their first year!

·        Puppies have a small, immature bladder and cannot go a full work day without being let out.  You will need to make arrangements for someone to come in midday until she is about 6 months old.

·        Puppies NEED obedience, socialization and manners training!  RAGOM gets many unmannered and under-socialized dogs surrendered due to the simple lack of training and socialization when the puppy was young.  This is a crucial time for puppies to learn about so many things!

If you are interested in Emma joining your family, contact your placement advisor.   She will be ready to join her new family within a couple of weeks!

Emma would like to say a special thank you to the 6th grade class who helped to write her bio above.

Updates

Here is an update on my former foster Emma, now named Piper.  Her new adoptive dad gave me permission to send it into her page for Happy Endings.     :)

Hello foster family!

This is Piper (Emma) and I wanted to thank you for the gift.  I was so excited to get the new blanket and chew toy.  I spent some time sniffing it, then laid right down on it and shared the chewy with my new big brother Bauer.  Bauer is a 2 1/2 year old PB Golden Retriever and is taking good care of me when I'm not hanging on his ear, licking his lips or trying to bite his paws.  We play inside and outside and take naps together.  He lays outside my crate at night. We really like each other!

I'm doing well with my potty training but if I go outside without Bauer or my Mom or Dad, I don't like to go and I've had a couple accidents when I come back inside but I’m getting better.

My Dad weighed me this morning and said I am 41 pounds and very healthy with my creamy white fur.    I was 21 pounds when I got to my new home so I'm growing fast.  I like to quickly eat everything in my bowl and Dad keeps putting things in my way to slow me down.  I am very food oriented and have been learning some new tricks like sit, stay, shake a paw and beg for food.  (Dad says I’m the best he has ever seen with begging.)

I was able to meet up with my sister Ella at Petco and we wrestled in the aisle and had a great time.  I've lost a bunch of teeth so far and really like to chew.  I just got a new elk antler chew bone which is helping my teething a lot.  I also heard my sister Casey has been adopted by Ella’s Grandma.  I’m excited to see her again.

I did get a little sick with a respiratory type infection after arriving at my new home.  I unfortunately gave it to Bauer also so we were on med’s together.  We have both finished up our antibiotics and are feeling much better.  Also the scar on my belly has healed very well.  My mom is giving me special baths twice a week for my skin.  I don't really like the baths but do like the brushing my friend Mackenzie gives me.  It really helps get rid of the dandruff.

My new home is very busy and I'm meeting lots of new friends and going with the family on outings.

Thank You so much for taking care of me and helping me find a new home.  My new owners just love me.

Take care!

Piper

Emma was spayed today and did great.  She has a tiny incision and will need to have her few stitches removed in 10 days.  Her skin has flared up a bit and she will be starting to take a daily fish oil supplement, which will need to be continued with her forever family.  Emma also will need a medicated bath every couple of weeks, as well as lotion applied every few days to help her skin.
Emma is a fantastic pup.  She has started to go to the door when she needs to go outside, and we avoid many accidents by bringing her out very frequently.  She will need continued consistency to learn where to do her business.  Emma does know "sit" and will do it anytime you are holding a treat.  She learned this very quickly!  We are also working on leash manners, so Emma knows how to take walks as she continues to grow.  These are all things that any puppy needs.
If you are interested in Emma , contact your placement advisor.  She will be ready to meet a family in the next week!  Could that be you?
