Sissy has a new person and a new name to start her new life. This sweet little bundle of love is now known as Piper. It is a name fitting for her and she is going to adapt to it well as she adapts to her new life style.
Piper has gone from being a China dog, to a country dog, and now to a city dog. We explained to her that the big city life is all about mud baths and pampering at the spa.
It's about toy stores galore and non-stop action. It's about walks along the river and play dates at the park and doggy day resort. It's about going to night time outings with her other doggie friends and her new young hip person.
Piper, you are going to light up your new person's life and we could not be happier.

Sissy has been with us for about four weeks now and we continue to learn more about her each day to pass on to her potential new people. And how she would love her very own "people."
Here are some things Sissy likes: Walks and runs, things that run, things that fly or get tossed/thrown, strawberries, radishes, carrots, green beens, apples (the expensive Honey Crisp), belly rubs, watching TV (especially dog shows), tug of war with her leash, and cuddles.
Here are some things that she is still working and improving on: Walking nicely on leash, counter surfing, house training (but she might have it figured out), jumping on people when overly excited, a little barking, and some basic manners.
Here are some things that this sweet gal excels at: Great recall, getting along with people, getting along with dogs, playing in the mud, giving up toys, "leave it," sleeping through the night, and learning.
Sissy is a very intelligent dog with a short attention span that will excel when she is given some quality time. Right now she is enjoying her time being split between training and play and sometimes she gets to train while playing and doesn't even realize it.
Sis is a people pleaser for sure and is looking forward to finding her new home where she can settle in and get to work pleasing.

Sissy certainly is a bundle of love and energy. She is really enjoying her agility classes and is working on her basic manners at home along with her training commands. She does well when her attention is on you.
Keeping her attention on you is another story. Sometimes her attention is on taking her friend for a walk and other times it's all about playing with her leash. Give her time and consistency and she'll do great.
Sissy loves to try to chase anything that moves. Bikers, horses, birds, squirrels, birds. Did we say birds? The positive is she doesn't want to eat anything, she just wants to play.
Speaking of eating... she really does want to eat everything. She will walk around the house and look for things that fit in her little mouth. Having plenty of toys (she prefers the harder ones such as a Nylabone or antler) is important. Keeping books, magazines, newspapers, napkins, really anything paper or food-related out of the way is also important.
Please remember, she is still just a puppy in a dog body. A cute dog body. She will still try to counter surf on occasions but responds well to "off." She would probably love to sleep on your bed with you but there is a good chance that she wouldn't sleep anyway. She does settle down nicely to sleep on her quilt on the side of the bed.
We are working on clearing up an ear infection so we are learning a little about her doctoring tolerance. She does not like ear drops and tries to squirm away, but she does not try to nip at you. She does enjoy taking her pills in a pill pocket and that makes things very easy.
The nice thing about her size is her drug costs are more manageable than a large dog. The nice thing about RAGOM is that it makes sure your dog goes home healthy to begin with.
In the end, when the sun finally starts to set and you begin to dream of that perfect dog to join you as a new family member, someone to take walks with, go swimming with, have a playdate at the park, or snuggles on the couch with, think of Sissy. She's playful, joyful, lovable, cuddle-able. And she'll light up your life.

Sissy is small in stature but big at heart. She weighs in at a mere 43 pounds of pure love. She is approximately two years old and shows a lot of puppy characteristics in her behavior. Part of that is from living in a rescue in her home country of China since January. Although she was well cared for, there wasn't much time for training. Now we are packing a lot in to the short amount of time that she has spent on US soil.
Due to scheduling conflicts, Sissy was not enrolled into basic obedience classes, but having an understanding trainer, she was allowed to jump right into an intermediate agility class with her resident dog friend. She showed no fear of the obstacles and enjoyed being around other dogs. She will continue going to weekly classes until she finds her new home. She will continue to work on basic obedience in her foster home as well.
Little miss China loves to play fetch. Perhaps she's not great at it, and perhaps she likes to try to throw the ball herself, but she does enjoy it. She also enjoys the lake on a warm day and even jumped off the dock once. It's a little hard to swim with a leash on but it didn't slow her down too much. She enjoys splashing around in the puddles on her walks as well.
Sissy is currently living with one dog, two cats, and two horses. She would love to chase the horses but she gets stopped by the end of her leash. She would also love if the cats ran more, but they are pretty dog savvy so they are a little boring for her. She does respect the cats but not so much the littler box, so it's important to keep that clean or out of her reach.
She does not live with any children but she did get to meet the neighbor kids and did rather well. The concern with her and young kids is that she currently lacks space management and paw location. She will jump on you when she is overly excited and will also run into the back of your legs. One would think she has poor depth perception but in reality she's just happy and wants to be closer.
Sissy is learning words in English faster than we are learning them in Chinese. She is already starting to pick up on words such as; Leave it, Here, Down, Off, Sit, Wait, and No bark. She is learning to walk nicely on a leash but sometimes is oblivious to the meaning of the word "nicely". On the upside, she has very nice recall.
She is not 100% house trained yet but is doing very well. She is not crated but does respect the use of the baby gate when securely in place. She will give you an occasional bark. Sometimes it is when she needs to go outside and sometimes it is when she notices something outside.
Sissy will benefit from obedience training to help her contain some of her positive energy, grow, and socialize. She is on the high end of the "Medium" energy level. She loves to run and flop around but she also will lay nicely when it's time to.
