3/26/07: Our sweet Zoey came to us as a frightened, tired little 7-week old bundle on Saturday night, but by Sunday afternoon she was announcing to the world that she is a Golden Retriever and she is ready to play! Zoey is a healthy, alert, inquisitive puppy with an over-supply of affection.  She loves to be with people and other dogs.  She is very playful and has found that finding little sticks is fun; chasing leaves is fun; and running after and catching a tennis ball is fabulous.  She is as coordinated as any dog her age.  She sleeps without whimpering, but has a ways to go to before she's house trained (of course).  We'll keep her status updated frequently as she begins to show more of her personality.  From what we have seen thus far, we think she is going to be one of those very special Goldens.

Zoey (07-147) is a very lucky and fortunate girl for two big reasons:
1.  She has a wonderful, generous, and loving sponsor in Kathy K. (who deserves a big lick on the cheek from this adorable puppy), and
2.  She is going to her forever home within a week.

That’s right, the Little Princess has been adopted and will be enjoying her golden life with ‘K’ in Rochester; where she will play in her own backyard, enjoy the company of her cousin (a nine-month old golden), and entertain ‘Grandpa’ in the country.  This is as perfect of a match I can recall.  ‘K’ is as excited as Zoey, and I could tell the moment they met that Zoey had found her forever home.  As soon as Zoey gets the nod from her vet, she will be packing up her many toys, balls, and that furry rug that came with her from Red Wing, and she will head south.

Zoey has become a best puppy imaginable.  She adapted quickly to her new environment, and by the time two weeks had gone by she was comfortable walking around the neighborhood with Zoom.  She loves to play, whether it be alone or with any dog, explore her surroundings, and is affectionate with people.  She has no separation anxiety when we leave and she sleeps though
the night, which make us appreciate her even more.
Zoey will be toughest yet for us to say goodbye (she is our fourteenth), but we know that she is going where she belongs and will be much loved, cared for, and will continue to lead the golden life that has just begun to know.

Zoey is adjusting to life on her own as well as any puppy we have had.  We have treated her for all of the ailments she came with and she is on her way to becoming completely healthy.  She is growing, getting stronger by the day, and starting to explore her world with increasing confidence.  She will bravely walk from the dun room into the dinning room, kitchen and living room, and she has even ventured into the deepest recesses of the back yard, except for the dark, wet jungle near the fence.  What a brave puppy she has become!  Her favorite time, however, is after dinner when the family is home and feet are available for a nap.  She loves to put her head over anyone’s feet as a pillow and sleep in total comfort.

She is learning housetraining, but as a youngster she tends to make some mistakes.  We are learning her signs that tell us it is time, but so far her signs are subtle.  From our experience, as she grows we’ll be better able to help her along.  Zoey sleeps through the night without crying and is always ready for the morning.  She stays in her room during the day without a problem.  She loves her toys, especially her ball and is well on her way to becoming a fabulous Retriever.
