Sweet little Shylo has gone home with her new family in Minnesota!
Shylo spent her last day with us wrestling with her buddy, Sadie, playing with my 7 year old daughter, and cuddled up with me getting love and treats. We will miss her so much!
A wonderful family came to meet Shylo and it was love at first sight! Shylo will be going to live in MN with Kurt, Diane, and RAGOM girl Jo. We will miss her terribly, but we are confident that this is a perfect match! Shylo will get to stay with us for a little while longer, as she is being spayed this week. After she has recovered, she gets to go to her furever home!
Included are a few photos of Shylo, including one with her new family!
A huge thanks to RAGOM for rescuing this sweet little girl. She will be living the Golden life with her new family!
Miss Shylo continues to do well in our home! We visited the vet this week and got quite a few compliments on how cute and soft she is. She did very well with her greetings and didn’t submissively pee in the clinic, which is a huge improvement! We are so proud of her. The vet is going to let us know this week when it is ok to have her spayed. It could be anywhere from 2-6 weeks since she was in heat when we first got her.
Shylo has made tremendous strides with her resource guarding. She has learned that she doesn’t have to worry about anyone stealing her food and that she gets regular meals each day. She has also learned that when she bring toys to someone and drops them, they will throw them for her! She absolutely loves to play fetch now. I am still working with her on a daily basis with her resource guarding and make sure that I am always in control of the situation.
Shylo will need to go to a home with a fenced in yard. She was found as a stray, and she frequently doesn’t like to come when she is called. I would not trust her off leash either, as she would take off if she saw something she wanted to chase. We’ve been working on obedience training and I feel Shylo has really learned a lot in just a few short weeks. Her “stay” is unbelievable for such a young, energetic dog! Her adoptive family will need to continue to work with obedience training and her socialization skills. We are also still working on housebreaking. She does fine in a kennel for 8+ hours, but has had a few accidents in the house when we are home.
Shylo is a very high energy dog. She gets really excited when she meets new people or when people come over, so we are working on having guests stop over frequently and ignoring her jumping and hyper behavior. She gets to play with a 6 month old Bernese Mt. Dog puppy on a daily basis and they play very well together. They could wrestle and play fight for hours. A lot of daily exercise is a must for Shylo. I think she would love to have another dog to keep her company and to play with.
She is a dream dog to groom. I trimmed her nails and used the Furminator on her today and she loved it. Her feet are a bit ticklish, but she let me trim her feet with electric clippers without much resistance. Having a regular feeding schedule has quickly put weight on Shylo. She has gained 4 pounds, but is still thin. I would say her ideal weight would be more around 50 pounds. She loves her dog food, but isn’t crazy about added fruits or vegetables in her food. She also doesn’t think baby carrots are an acceptable treat!
This sweet little girl has really done well adjusting to our routine. She loves spending time with us and we are enjoying teaching her how to be a member of the family. This weekend she showed us that severe thunderstorms do not bother her at all. She would have loved to go out to play in the rain if we had let her!
