Poppy was adopted by us this summer. She bonded with my husband right away. It's so wonderful to see her soak up his love and affection. She fits with our family like a glove and gets along so well with our resident Ruby and other RAGOM sister Ava.

Poppy went to her furever home today where she will have two other Golden sisters and a huge yard to protect from bunnies. She hit the jackpot with this family who has adopted from RAGOM before. I love you, Poppy, and will miss you here, but am happy that I can visit you.

Poppy moved to our house because she wouldn’t leave the cat alone in her first foster home. She has a high prey drive, so she cannot go to a home with cats or small animals. She will keep squirrels and rabbits out of your yard!
Poppy met my dogs without issue. She gets along great with other dogs, but I would be careful around real small dogs, as she might think of them as something to chase. Poppy loves to be by people. She follows me around instead of following the dogs. She went to a Meet & Greet two weeks ago and to Pet-A-Palooza last weekend and did great! She loved all of the attention.
My grandchildren came over to meet Poppy and she loved them. They tried playing tug-of-war with her, but she didn’t understand what to do because she never played with toys when she was at the breeder’s kennel. However, when they threw a tennis ball, she knew what to do with that!!
She chased it and either brought it back within five feet of us or just laid down with it where she got it. There was no dropping it for us so we could throw it again. She just wanted to chew on it. I had to trade a treat for the ball so she would drop it. Since there were other dogs around, we put the balls away so there wouldn’t be any disagreements over them.
When Poppy first came to our house, she barked at herself in the mirror in the curio cabinet or at her reflection in the patio door. She doesn’t do that anymore. At her first foster home, she had seven dogs in the surrounding three backyards, so she barked at them whenever she was outside.
When I let the dogs out at my house, she runs full steam to the fence barking in case there are any dogs outside. The problem is, none of my neighbors have dogs anymore. I think she is finally realizing that, so she barks just once as she runs into the yard.
Poppy is a joy to have around. She loves to be brushed or combed. When I had her groomed, the groomer used a shampoo that loosens the undercoat because she had so much fur. The breeders don’t brush the dogs, so we had a lot of undercoat to get rid of. It almost looked like another dog lying next to me!
She sits as soon as I go to the treat cupboard and takes treats so gently. She comes when called, unless she is chewing on a stick or piece of mulch. Then I have to tell her to drop it and she usually does. She knows ‘leave it’, too.
Poppy has free roam all of the time with my dogs. One time when she first came to my house, she chewed the corner of a dog blanket, but nothing since. She has never had an accident in the house and paces or goes to the door when she has to go out. Poppy will take treats away from another dog if it is laying on the dog bed so will have to be watched when dogs have treats.
She loves to go for car rides and doesn’t mind going to the Vet! She FINALLY got over her ear infections! She now weighs 73 pounds and the Vet said she should lose another 5 – 8 pounds to get to her ideal weight of 65 to 68 pounds.

Poppy is a loving, beautiful five year old female. She came to RAGOM from a breeder and now her breeding days are behind her. She is ready to spend the rest of her life as a loved, well-cared for pet.
Poppy is an affectionate dog who has been joyfully adjusting to her new life. She enjoys people and quickly warms up to everyone she meets. Her ability to nudge her way into the front of the petting line is outstanding!
Poppy looks to my resident dog to learn how to live in a house. She gets along really well with dogs, but does not know a lot about playing yet. We hope she will become more playful once she feels more secure in her new life.
In the past two weeks, she has had to learn how to eat out of a dog bowl. She's probably never seen a mirror, TV, bed or dog toy. She had her first bath last Saturday. Poppy is a brave girl who wants to fit in, but her adjustment will come slowly. Most things that are second nature to our dogs are new to her.
Poppy has learned her name, along with the "come" command. She is doing excellent with her personal hygiene—zero accidents in her current home. She is starting to walk on a harness. It's a work in progress, but she enjoys trying.
She gets in and out of the car easily if the resident dog jumps in first. Poppy sleeps in her crate and is crated when no one is home.
Poppy is a large dog. She has a big blocky head and very large paws. Her light blond/medium reddish-brown coat is plentiful. Poppy currently weighs 80 pounds, but her ideal weight is between 67 and 70 pounds. Her adopter must be dedicated to helping her lose the extra weight. Poppy has an interesting personality. She definitely has a lot of breeder traits, yet she is quite outgoing.
Poppy also knows what she wants and will work hard to possess it. Whether it's a ball or a squirrel, Poppy puts a lot of determination into getting what she wants. She will benefit greatly by patient and reward based training. She needs love, but she also requires boundaries and a family who does not just let her do whatever and go wherever she wants.
Poppy's spay surgery is scheduled for April 23rd. Once she heals, she will be ready to move to her new home.
