Welcome to Ragom, Prince. Prince arrived Sunday afternoon and after a good bath and brushing, has settled in quite nicely. He is a 9 year old purebred Golden with a beautiful golden red coat and a LOT of fur. He is quite roly poly at 102 ponds. We are working on weight reduction with less food and walks. He appears to be in excellent health although we will know more after our vet appointment Thursday night.

He is quiet, obedient, loves to sleep and seems to be the perfect dog. Raised alone without another dog, he is ignoring my female Libby but secretly I think he watches her a good bit. He likes cats and kids and all people in general. He is going to the door for potty times and does not beg. He generally wants to be wherever I am. He is content to lay on the bedroom floor at night for sleeping. More on this super boy later....

Prince enjoyed all the attention at the Maple Grove Petco last Saturday; thank you for everyone who took time to come out and see all the great senior dogs. Prince is down to 90# and we estimate he'll have to lose ten more. He is snoring less loudly now and still loves his walks. He enjoys "chasing" the early morning rabbits. He is a little slow rising and laying down so we have been treating his arthritis with glucosamine. I haven't noticed alot of improvement yet but I am hopeful as time goes on. My guess is he's been very overweight for years which has contributed to this. A little massage each day helps with this. More later...

Update on Prince - we had a grooming and got rid of alot of undercoat - his pretty dark golden color came through and he really does look so much better. His vet appt. went well; he is generally pretty healthy except for some arthritis and possibly underactive thyroid. They suggested a teeth cleaning in the next 6-12 months. And he needs to lose 15 more pounds. He is at 97 now and he pants alot. We are diligently working with walks and food control and now that it's cooler, we will enjoy our walks even more. I have to say Prince is friendly and approachable to everyone he meets, young or old. He is a great dog and I am very lucky to foster him...
