8/21/06: Rachel is a very sweet, senior Golden who came to live with us yesterday. She was a stray who ended up on someone's doorstep during a severe thunderstorm. She has been in an animal control shelter for the past 3 weeks where she had free roam since she was so well behaved. It appears she has been a stray for quite some time. She went to the vet today and overall is in pretty good shape for a 12-year-old stray. She has an ear infection which is now being treated. She also needs some dental work. She was heartworm and Lyme disease negative -YEA! She received all of her shots and started on heartworm preventative. We gave her a bath yesterday and started what will be a daily brushing to get rid of all of her mats. She is shy and hasn't quite figured out how our household works yet. She wags her tail every time she sees us and rolls over for us to scratch her tummy. She goes to the door when she needs to go out, does her business, and comes right back in. She's a little thin at 66# so we will enjoy fattening her up. We took her for a walk and she has a lot of bounce in her step. Plus there was no tugging on the leash. She rides in the car very well. She has been fine with our 3 resident Goldens who have been scrutinizing her very carefully. She was also fine with our 3 grandchildren who were here yesterday. This gentle Golden girl has had a tough life recently and deserves some loving kindness in a caring home. More information to come as we get to know this treasure of a Golden.
