Hello everyone!  Introducing Rambo to RAGOM!  He is a 4 year old Golden Mix that came from a rescue in Georgia.  He is 43 pounds and has light hair - and a cute "husky like" tail!  We were told that his owner was elderly and could no longer care for Rambo.  Rambo is extremely sweet and happy around people - his tail just wags and wags!  He gets along well with our resident goldens and doesn't bother the cat at all.   I found out from the vet that he had been shot at - there are bb's in him - but the vet said that the bb's shouldn't cause any issues by being there. Before he came up to MN, the Georgia vet was able to take care of his "cherry eye" and get him neutered - both surgeries are healing well.

We have only had Rambo for a week here, so he hasn't had the chance to meet too many other dogs.  He met a couple people last weekend when we had a BBQ and he is so excited and happy to meet people (typical Golden trait!)  He has been eating well (we have him on a high quality, grain free kibble) and we are starting to teach him how to "sit" and "stay".  He seems very intrigued by certain sounds - like when certain music plays or a cell phone has a funny ring - his ears go up and he cocks his head to one side!

Rambo is heartworm positive - we will start treatment in the next couple weeks.  His case is moderate, but will still take time and can get expensive, so if you wanted to help out with his vet bills by sponsoring him, that would be great!  His treatment will require some antibiotics, injections and preventatives (in the 2 - 3 month timeframe) and low activity during the treatment.  The vet said that they take a slow approach to treating the heartworm so the treatment is safer for the dogs.  After the treatment, Rambo will need to wait a couple months to be tested again to make sure everything is negative.

Rambo just loves to play and hang out with his Golden Foster Brother Luke.  Luke is the "big brother" and Rambo follows him everywhere!  No accidents in the house after the initial "marking" of the coffee table!  Rambo loves sleeping with people too - he sleeps well in a crate but after a few nights we let him sleep with us in the bedroom - no issues sharing a bed with us and the other dogs.  The last couple days, Rambo has been sleeping in the guest room with me and he sleeps well through the night (although he can be a bed hog!)  I was a little nervous with sharing a bed with a dog I really didn't know, but all he does is wag his tail and sometimes sigh whenever I would move (yes - Foster Mom is a restless sleeper!)  We have a fenced in yard, so he also likes to chase Luke and Golden Foster Sister Leia around the parameter (and chase the occassional squirrel with them).  Mostly, he likes to lay in the sun on the deck and overlook the neighborhood.

Stay tuned for more Rambo updates!  And if you are interested in Rambo, please contact your placement advisor to setup a meeting.  Thanks!

Drum roll, please... Rambo's been adopted! His new family had been following his blog and came down to meet him at the Apple Valley Petco event a few weeks ago, and it was love at first sight. He's now living the good life of a happy suburban house dog. :)

I forgot to thank (bad FM) Anonymous as well as our Furry Friend, Chance, earlier for their donations to Rambo's care, so Thank You!! And again many thanks to Mary & Carl S. I don't know whether they've followed his story since he moved to MN, but just in case -- thank you to his rescuers in GA who were able to spring Rambo from the shelter just in time. Although he's not quite sure what to make of our winter weather, he's a happy, healthy, confident dog now living the Golden life!

I think Rambo's finally starting to enjoy some of the perks of being a RAGOM dog. :) After enduring a cross-country transport from Georgia, then a lengthy heartworm treatment, including a couple of months of crate-rest... poor guy probably questioned the point of the 'welcome to RAGOM!' spiel. But since achieving healthy dog status a few weeks ago, his social life's definitely picked up!

Rambo's attended three RAGOM events where he enjoyed meetin' & greetin' lots of humans and dogs. Rambo's a very confident dog & was happy to sniff & be sniffed by the other dogs. He also enjoyed the attention of all the new people there to provide patting & sometimes even treats! FM also realized how much he enjoys car rides. Foster dogs ride tethered in the back seat & most are content to just curl up back there & maybe look out the window occasionally. But not Rambo. He spent the whole drive to Rochester standing up & looking out the front window -- very alert & interested in where we were going.

Besides the RAGOM events, Rambo got to attend the Team Reno birthday bash where he got to run around & play with a couple of dozen other dogs of all ages & sizes, as well as people of all ages & sizes. He definitely had a good time that day!

And if all that wasn't enough, Rambo went to Woof-Dah for a full day of doggie daycare. His orientation day report card rated his doggie skills as social butterfly & his people skills as very friendly. Way to go, Rambo!

Thanks to Devon, Rambo had a photo shoot that shows what a cute little guy he is. :)

Rambo moved to his new foster home in Bloomington a few weeks ago. Besides getting to know him a little before updating his blog, I've been hoping to have news to share about his heartworm treatment. Well, that day is finally here and... Rambo's officially a healthy, heartworm-free dog!!

Like his first FM mentioned, Rambo's a happy, smart, cuddly, little shadow. He gets along with my furbutts & has enjoyed several rounds of 3-dog wrestle mania (Rambo's definitely the most vocal of the group & he's got quite the repertoire of sounds!). Good house manners, no marking or chewing inappropriate items. Happy to entertain himself with a good bone, but soft, stuffed toys have a short life expectancy. He's done fine on a tie-out but I'm sure he'd really love a fenced yard. After approximately 6 months of minimal activity, Rambo deserves lots of chances to run leashless.

Rambo's forever family will need to take him to an obedience class. He definitely needs work with walking on a leash, thank goodness for Gentle Leaders! He also seems to be a counter surfer, maybe even of pro quality. While that's easily dealt with by not leaving food within reach, training can help him learn control. But because of his food focus, Rambo shouldn't go to a family with young kids. No worries about biting, but the kid might regularly lose out on his lunch!

Here's a pic of the little guy (thanks, Janet!) at his debut meet & greet in Rochester last week. He had a great time with all the people, dogs, treats & smells to check out :)

Please contact you Placement Adviser if you want to meet this terrific little guy!

Hello Everyone! This is Rambo's former FM giving my last update on him. Rambo and our resident Luke were starting to get a little irritated with each other and the other week they got into a scuffle. I think Luke's "alpha male" attitude was coming out more and more (I actually think Luke was a bit of an instigator - and Rambo didn't want to back down). While it made us so sad to do so, we thought the best thing would be for Rambo to go into boarding. Luke is still quite a bit bigger than Rambo and we didn't want either dog getting hurt!

That said, I just want to say what a joy it was to foster Rambo. He will make a fantastic family pet. I do believe that he would do best in a home where he is the only dog or if the other dogs is more docile. (He got along great with our dog Leia...but she is a very passive dog - unlike her brother Luke!) He was interested in our cat but didn't really pursue him too much once the cat ran from him. Rambo is VERY smart (learned how to sit right away when ready to eat) and is VERY happy. He just loves being around people (he was my little velcro dog). He is also the best cuddler - he loves to snuggle on the couch (and sleep with you!)
Rambo is almost done with his HW treatment ~~ once he is done the vet will just check him to make sure he stays HW negative.
Please let placement know if you are interested in this wonderful dog! He really deserves a great family and he will bring much joy to anyone who adopts him!

Nice and Cozy
See how happy I am! I smile all the time!

Hi everyone! Rambo here! I am doing the update this time!

First of all, I am almost done with my heartworm treatment. Everything has been going well and next week I have to go into the vet for one final time...FM says I will get a shot and then will sleepover at the vet. I don't know if I like that! But once that is done, then I should be completely done with treatment and they will just continue to test me to make sure everything is negative. Yeah!

Have I mentioned how smart and what a good boy? I am learning how to sit right away with food and to even eat with my FS Leia and FB Luke without wanting their food. (Well, I DO want it but I am a good boy and don't pester them). Luke, Leia and I usually hang out on FD's bed watching TV. I wish I could go for walks and play with the ball, but during treatment I still need to have low activity. That's okay because I do like napping with the foster siblings.

And really great news is that I have sponsors! Thank you so much Mary and Carl S! They donated in memory of their RAGOM dog Tazz/Max.

I should be ready for my furever home after the holidays. I can't wait to run and play again in this thing they call "snow"! Remember, I am from Georgia and don't really know what this stuff is!

"Thanks Mary and Carl!"

"Me and Leia and Luke. Since Leia just got back from the vet, we ALL got treats!"

Hi everyone – it’s Rambo!  I think I will take over writing the update for this week!  We had a nice long weekend.  FM ordered some puzzles for me to do – you hide the treat and then I have to find it.  I didn’t understand it at first, then Leia showed me that you can use your teeth!  FM said to use my paws and tried to show me, but Leia’s idea worked better!  I will get the hang of it!

FM also bought me my own brush because my fur is so different than Luke and Leia’s.  Mine is like a lab’s coat, nice and short, so she bought a really soft brush for me.  I love it when she brushes me!

My appetite has increased as well.  The vet said that this could happen with the heartworm treatment meds, so now FM gives me 1.5 cups of grain free kibble twice a day (with my meds).  FM wants to fatten me up anyways!  FD grills a lot, so there is always something good in the house for treats!

I go out on a leash in the backyard and I do not like it!  I want to chase squirrels with Luke and Leia, but FM says I can’t right now.  It isn’t too bad though because Luke and Leia usually hang out by me anyways when I am on my leash.  FM also blocked the stairs to the deck, so while I can’t have free roam in the backyard, at least I can hang out on the deck and look at the birds and squirrels in the trees!

Well, that’s all that is new for now.  Contact your placement advisor if you’d like to meet me – I am a huge cuddle bug and am waiting for my forever home!

Hi everyone!  Rambo has been in our home for a little over 2 weeks, so we are really seeing his personality!  I (Foster Mom) have found out some funny things!

1.  Unlike FM,  he doesn't like peanut butter!  We bought him a Kong and filled it with peanut butter and a treat and then froze it.  Luke and Leia ate theirs while Rambo just sniffed it and walked away.  He did the same thing with Frosty Paws - this boy has no sweet tooth!  He does like cheese, hot dogs and steak - so I will probably fill his Kong with the high quality wet pet food for a treat.

2.  He loves music.  When I am playing piano, he tries to look behind it to see where the sound is coming from.  And all the dogs fall sleep when Foster Dad (FD) plays his acoustic guitar.

3.  He grunts and sighs...a lot.  It is so funny to hear him grunt when trying to make his bed with the blanket and usually ends the effort with a big sigh!

4.  He has a healthy appetite.  The first couple days Rambo didn't want to eat much (after so much stress with traveling, I can understand!) but now his appetite is great.  He eats twice a day and has grain free kibble along with cheese/hot dog for his meds.

5.  A happy, tail wagging dog!  He is always so excited to see everyone - that little tail just wags like crazy!

We have started his heartworm treatment this week.  It consists of a few pills a couple times a day.  These are small and he eats them with cheese, so there are no issues with this at all.  He sticks close to me in the house but he now has to go outside on a leash to keep him calmer during treatment.  This isn't an issue at all.  The meds also seem to help him mellow out a bit during the day.  Luke and Leia are great babysitters - they all sleep together in the family room (where Rambo's crate is) at night.

We will keep you posted on his treatment ~~ please contact your placement advisor if you'd like to meet Rambo.  He's an absolute sweetheart!

Big bed all to myself!
