Red 11-200

Profile

I would like to introduce you to Red 11-200. He is a male and we are unsure of his age, somewhere between 2-5. When we go see our vet we will try to narrow that down a little more, he is living in Deer River, Mn.

I don’t have a lot to say about Red yet, he has just been with us a day. But he is so incredibly beautiful I wanted to get his picture out for you all to start looking at!

Red came in as a stray so he is starving for attention and food! He is a little underweight and boy can he eat! He is a dark Red color (maybe that’s where he got his name), the pictures do not do justice to how dark red he is! Just Beautiful! He has a big blocky head and a long lean body! It's like he almost has bloodhound in him or something, just not sure! I have had a lot of dogs in my life and have NEVER seen a dog run like him, when he runs he has these long strides and takes him about 3 strides and he is where he wants to be! It's fascinating to watch him run!! It's almost like slow motion, hard to explain! He loves to be around people for attention and loves to play with toys! He is a very hard chewer so he goes through toys very quickly, he should not be left alone with them or he will probably eat them and that is not good!

We throw the ball and he brings it back, does not always want to give it to you but we are working on that and he seems to be a very fast learner. He will sit, stay (for a short time) on command. And does very well when told No! He slept on the floor in the bedroom last night - did very well, in the morning he jumped up on the bed for some attention! He has had no accidents as of yet in the house, that’s always a good thing! So this is just a brief start to his journey in life he so deserves! We will update again after his vet appointment!

We took one look at Red on the RAGOM website and knew we had to meet him. He is a big dude and has a lot of energy so when he ran over our 6 year old at the first meeting we were a little worried. Once he settled down it became pretty clear that he was the perfect dog for us – and he is. He is the happiest dog any of us have ever been around, he has more love to give than we ever could have imagined, he’s great with kids and other dogs, and couldn’t be better behaved.

We have two issues. The first is his insistence on bonding with the family guinea pig. The pig isn’t nearly as enthusiastic about Red as Red is about the pig. The second issue is his chosen sleeping spot - a spot that used to belong exclusively to the man of the house. Before you suggest Red would be better served to sleep on the unused dog bed in the room, you should know his presence in the big bed has been endorsed by the occupant that runs the house.

He’s great, thank you RAGOM for sending Red our way!

Hi all out there, Red here just giving a little update. First of all can I say this HOT weather really stinks! It's not so bad for me I’m in air conditioning all day or the pond, but for all my furry friends that do not have this luxury I feel bad!!

As far as for me things have been going well, as you can see from the pictures below. I am becoming more and more a lap dog, I love my people and they love me!

I have learned to slow down when I eat, I know now that I will be fed on a regular basis and I am putting on some weight so all is good. My barking when someone comes to the door is getting a little better, foster mom is using a whistle and I stop as soon as she blows it!! Nice trick foster mom! I don’t need a fenced in yard, I’m really good at staying close by or come back when I’m told. I just need a little help with the leash, I walk great when we are just out for a walk but if I see a dog or go to the vet I get a little excited and then I pull some so we are working on that! I learn fast so this should not be a problem for me with some help! I am a strong dog so hold on tight if I do get excited!!

I think I have a family coming to visit me in a couple weeks so I am excited about that and I hope I can be on my best behavior, I will let you know more how that goes. Oh I almost forgot, I do have free roam of the house and that is going very well! So, so long for now and all my furry friends out there stay cool!

Red here, just a few more pictures to show you all! I am a very handsome boy with a really nice build! I am very athletic, love to fetch, but swimming is my favorite! My fosters have a pond and I have a hard time staying out of it! I do love to travel in the car and ignore the cat that hisses at me at times! I'm learning to slow down when I eat, I used to inhale it thinking it was my last meal I guess, but now I know I will be fed again so I’m getting better! I bark at people when they come over, but as soon as I get to meet them I'm fine. Fosters are working with me on this. After about 5 days I am trying free roam while the fosters are out, so far so good!! I will keep you posted!

Enjoy the pictures! If I look like a dog you might like to give a furever home to, please let placement know!!

Time for an update on big Red!! He has been with us for 5 days now and what a fabulous dog. He was found as a stray and then boarded for a month before he got to come into a home and find out what a dog's life is really all about! He likes it very much. He had one accident on the first day and nothing since!! We had our vet appointment today (7-5-11) and everything looks good! He has a couple teeth that have had some kind of trauma to them and are dead, but do not seem to bother him so for now the vet said to leave them! The vet said he believes he is around 3 years old. He is a little under weight but has gained 3 pounds so he is on his way, the vet would like to see him gain another 5 pounds or so! When he eats it is like he has never seen food before, he eats so fast without chewing that it was coming back up, so a great tip I got from my mentor was to try a muffin tin, it forces them to eat slower and it works great, another tip the vet gave me was you can put a softball in the dish and the food around it they again have to eat slower, neat ideas I thought! Once he gets into a routine of knowing he will be fed everyday it will get better on its own, I believe.

I cannot talk enough about the well built, strong guy he is! This dog has a run like I have never seen before, it's like he takes these long slow strides almost like slow motion but not, if that makes any sense at all! Incredible to watch him when he is on his fastest run!! I know I already talked about that in the last update but it really is something to talk about! But don’t let the strong well built body scare you, he uses it very well. He walks very well on a leash, no pulling or tugging. Today at the vet I found out how strong he is when it was time to go in and see all the dogs, he got excited then, but what dog doesn’t! He calms down very quickly.

He is a great dog, very active outdoors if you want him to be, but will settle right down with you when you are ready for that also. In the house he is very laid back, so he saves his energy for outside which is great! I do have a cat and he does just fine with her also.

He LOVES water! I have a kiddie pool out back for the dogs and he does not hesitate at all to go and lay right down in it, we also have a pond in the front yard and he goes in that all the time just to cool off and right back out again!! Funny!

We have a fence out back but he is very good at staying by us so a fence is not necessary. He follows me (foster mom) around like I am his shadow and he is mine, I don’t get out of his sight very often without him coming to see where I am. He will bark to let you know someone is coming but once he meets whoever it is he is just fine!! Thinks he needs to be vocal for whatever reason. I sometimes wish dogs could talk to tell us their story and then again I think I don’t want to know what these poor pups have been through. Enjoy the pictures and come and meet Big Red!!
