Redford 09-490

Profile

Redford traveled to us all the way from Bessemer, Alabama, and we are thrilled to have him as part of the RAGOM family! He was found as a stray and is a 2 year old, neutered, Golden mix that is now current on all his vaccinations and microchipped. Redford tested positive for heartworm and had scabies when he arrived at the shelter. His scabies was treated with ivermectin which may have treated his heartworm as well because he tested negative for heartworm this week. He no longer has scabies and I’ll bring him to the vet again in a few weeks just to confirm his heartworm has been treated.

Redford weighs 45 pounds and needs to gain about 5 more pounds. He is 99% potty trained, is very affectionate and playful and great around my young kids (5 and 8 years old). Redford and my resident female Mia do well most of the time, but he is possessive with toys and so they have a few things to work out…..we are working on it though.

Please contact your Placement Advisor if you are interested in meeting this sweet, playful young boy!

I loved being outside yesterday taking in the sun and hanging with my buddy Mia. I feel great after my final heartworm treatment and only have two weeks left that I need to be quiet and then I get to play ball! My foster family thinks I am the greatest boy but I am ready now for my forever family. Let me tell you about myself:

  • I am young, healthy, potty trained, crate trained and well behaved in my home (although I’m thinking about taking up counter surfing J)
  • Kids love me, and I love them; I would be fine with or without another dog; I really like cats but chase them and should be in a home without cats
  • I am a velcro dog! I love people and want to be around them whenever possible. My foster mom works so I am crated during the day, but would rather be with people than stuck in my boring crate. I sleep in FM’s bedroom on the floor or dog bed, and while I wake her in the morning with my sweet kisses and gentle paw on her bed, I have no interest in hanging out on the furniture.
  • Walking and playing in the fenced yard are my favorite things to do. I am young, have lots of energy and want to be with a family that will be active with me. My one bad habit is that I really pull on leash and so need to use a gentle leader.
  • I am a beautiful boy but don’t really like the camera so FM has a hard time taking pictures that capture how handsome I am….you should come and check me out! After all, I am named after Robert Redford!

Just a quick update about sweet Redford. He will have his next heartworm treatment on March 24th, and that should be his final treatment. He feels great and it is difficult to keep him quiet because this boy wants to PLAY! We continue to work on walking him with a gentle leader (he has a different name for it) and he is doing pretty well. I think in a few weeks we will have it mastered! Redford loves any attention and affection…..and has a great time with the kids. Here are a few photos from this weekend.

Redford and our resident Mia have found their groove and get along well. Redford no longer seems to have any issues with guarding his toys, and the dogs love running in the backyard and playing with toys. He is great with the kids and so gentle with treats the kids can feed him.

Redford is definitely a velcro dog and really wants to be next to someone all the time. I think it will improve over time as he trusts that he will be part of a family and not left behind.

The only other issue we are working on is Redford frequently mouths me when he wants attention or just to play. He is very gentle, so it doesn’t hurt, but it’s a habit we need to work on.

We will go to the vet next week to have another heartworm test and validate everything is ok with this sweet boy!
