Remington 10-198

Profile

I would like to take a moment and introduce one of our newest esteemed RAGOM dogs, Remi!  He came to us from a breeding situation along with several other lucky dogs.  A big thank you to all the volunteers it took to get him into our care, he is so greatful to have been given this second chance!

Remi is 4-years-old and is a big boy.  I would guess he has at least 20-30 pounds to lose but we'll get more on that when he sees the vet on Wednesday.  He has been given a thorough bathing and we're still working on the brushing, but you can see the beauty that he is.

I was completely amazed when I first met him at how incredibly social he is!  He LOVES his people and the first thing he did after his bath was roll over and lay in my lap!  He loves being pet and even does the golden paw on your arm if you stop even momentarily.  He has loved everyone he has met with his tail wagging :-)  He was unsure about getting into the car and needed to be assisted but this was quite a minor situation.  He met the resident pack of 3 with no issues whatsoever and even play bowed to Millie!  He was mildly interested in the cat, but we'll see if that becomes anything further when he gets more comfortable here.

He got to come into the house alone for the first couple minutes so he could take it all in (and the AC!!!) before being completely overwhelmed with the other dogs.  He was a little nervous but has acclimated quite well.  He has no issues with linoleum, he goes in and out of doors just perfectly, has even made a quasi attempt at getting on the sofa and climbed (and descended) the stairs with no issues, he just wanted to follow me.  Remi did get spooked in the first couple minutes and bolted but stopped before getting to the other side of the street and we had no issues getting him back.  He's also gotten spooked by the TV!  He really started pacing, hiding and getting as close as he could to me when I turned that thing on.

Remi went for his very first walk today!  He walked like a drunken sailor for the first 15 minutes or so but then got into a rhythm and found a tentative place in the pack.  He was pretty pooped after our 50 minute walk, but he'll get used to it fast since we walk it every morning!

While I cannot say that Remi is housebroken, because he hasn't gone to the door to ask to go out, I can say that he hasn't had an accident.  He did have some fear peeing when I came home today.  Probably the loud noise of the garage door and the other dogs barking.

Whoever adopts this fantastic boy will be one lucky family!  He is such a lover and you'll never regret giving him a chance a the golden life!  He loves loves his people and it turns out is a lap dog, who woulda thunk it!?  I don't usually spoil my dogs (coughcough) but he crawled into bed with me last night and after that there was no way I could put him in a kennel...

Because he is a puppy mill dog, he will need the following in his furever home:
1) A fenced yard
2) A resident dog
3) No small children, I would say under 8 because he has encountered some kids in the neighborhood already and did fine

If you would like to meet or learn more about Remington, please contact your placement advisor.  This sweet boy won't last long in foster care!

Remington has found his forever home right here with us. He has been with us for 4 months, and has become a very important part of our family. He is so very gentle and loving. He has been to school with me to talk to the children about caring for your pets, and he continues to go the the nursing home with us, along with our other dogs. He has a very special way that he bonds with the residents, and we have decided that he will make a wonderful Therapy dog. I have spoken with the evaluator, and we have a date set, when Remi will be tested. He has what it takes: his love for all people, not spooked by the noises, or wheel chairs. I am so happy for this wonderful boy, that was rescued from living in a junk yard at the end of June, and now he has a chance to do what he really was meant to do - being with, and pleasing people. Here are some pictures taken of him with the residents at the nursing home facility. We love him, and the residents call him the million dollar dog.

Hi everyone,

This is Remington checking in from Rochester. I have been here for almost 2 weeks, and I love it. I really liked it at my other foster home too, but one of the resident dogs at my first home had a medical emergency, so she asked if I could come to stay here. We have a HUGE toy box, and I think I have successfully de-squeaked every toy and ball in it. I really like going for our daily walks, and my mom and dad are very impressed with what a gentleman I am. My first foster mom taught me a lot of really good things, and they tell me all the time, "What a good boy I am".    I always knew I was a good boy, but if it makes them feel good - go for it.

I play nicely with Aspen, and Abby. We chase each other around the yard. Sometimes Aspen will hide behind a tree(she thinks I can't see her, but I do), and we will peek from one side to the other until one of us takes off running, and then the chase is on. I have really built up a lot of stamina after getting my thyroid working correctly. I am getting daily exercise, and have lost some weight. I think I am almost ready to pose for one of those muscle magazines(Playdog) or something like that. I can't wait to see everyone at the Goldzilla event in a few weeks. My mom and dad said we are going to have so much fun. Please come and visit with me. I love attention, and the more I get, the happier I get.

My mom took some new pictures of me, so you can see how beautiful I am(she thinks I am beautiful inside too) Take care.   Remi

I know you have something Aspen...don't try to fool me!

Did someone say squirrel??

Here we are, getting a lecture about picking tomatoes from the garden!

Mr. Remington never ceases to amaze me.  When I signed up to foster him I was expecting a very scared doggy.  While loud noises, sudden movements, the TV and loud cars still scare him the one thing he is not afraid of is people!  This is pretty unusual for a dog coming from his situation and I couldn't be happier to have a complete love bug in my house!  He hasn't found a person he didn't want to cuddle with yet!

On Monday I vacuumed and with a couple of my dogs, Remington went upstairs to hide.  When I got done and put it away I called him a couple times and he didn't come downstairs.  I was so worried that I had encountered a set back with him.  I went upstairs to cuddle and sweet talk him and this is what I saw...

On Monday we were also invited to a doggy party!  There were 4 humans and 13 goldens!  Holy cow what a sight we were!  Remington was in his prime with all these young ladies in attendence ;-)  It turns out that he loves the kiddie pool!  He was hesitant to step in at first but as you can see from the pictures, he decided it was a nice enough place to lay for a bit!

Remington still isn't eating regularly.  I have a feeling that some of the dogs were fed together because he really wants to eat out of the same bowl as my dogs however the resident pack is none too thrilled having another dog stick his nose in their food!  It may also be a case of his mouth hurting since he has a fairly large growth by his molars so we'll see what happens after his vet appt.

Remington continues to amaze me with his ability to rebound from a yukky situation.  Whoever adopts him will be so lucky to be able to witness the growth he is sure to make.  If you want in on this transformation, contact your advisor and come see this brute of a boy!
