Sammy has had quite a first week in foster care. He was so scared and nervous the first couple days that he growled when any dog came near him. I was worried about getting him into a good adoptive home if he was going to be nippy, but he has since settled in and is starting to learn how to play with other dogs, toys and his foster mom.
He is very much starved for attention and wants nothing more than to be cuddled and loved. He gives lots and lots of kisses and is so happy to have a warm bed to sleep in every night (ummm... foster mom's bed that is).
He had a vet check and he is completely healthy and 64 pounds (you'd never guess it by looking at him). His teeth are a little worn and the vet thinks this is because of trying to chew his way out of his fenced enclosure.
He was a little uncertain of the resident cat at first but was busy grooming him last night.
He walks OK on a leash. When he gets excited he will pull, but walks really well with the pack. He has barked at other dogs on our walks but this is happening less and less.
He is about 99% potty trained which is amazing for a dog that spent most of his life outdoors.
He would do well with or without another dog, with or without a cat and is likely to be good around kids since he was raised with 7.
Sammy would love to find his furever home where he can get lots of cuddles and love! He will need a family that will know that he's likely to be very nervous for awhile but will be patient and show him lots of love. If you think you're that family, please contact placementragom [dot] org.
