Rex 09-128

Profile

It's late on a Friday evening and happy go-lucky Rex has completed his long journey to MN from IA.  Rex is a sweet natured mix who has come to RAGOM from a shelter where he was found as a stray.  We don't know much about him at this point since we've known him for 30 minutes.  He is already best friends with resident Lucy.  Rex is neutered, about 9 months old and about 50 lbs.
We have a vet appointment for him in the morning and then Rex will be attending the RAGOM event in Roseville on Saturday, March 28th.
I'm sorry I don't have any pics of him yet.  I guess you'll just have to meet him tomorrow to see just how cute he is.

He is very cute!
More to come on Rex in the next day or so and I'll be sure to post many pics of him.
He looks forward to meeting you tomorrow at Petsmart.

Rex has gone home with his forever family.  He was with us for exactly 2 weeks and won our hearts over in a fraction of that.  Resident Lucy is now without a play partner and is moping around....

Rex will be loved and have a warm safe home and not have roam anymore.

Thank you RAGOM for giving this loving angel the start to his golden life

And thank you for reading up on him and his time here with us.

I have a forever family!

I'm still cute

Our little T-Rex met his forever family last night.  They had their home visit last weekend and had seen Rex on the website and mentioned him and that they were interested in him.

They came to visit him last night and they want to be his forever family.  He took to them right away and seemed to blend right in with them.

This sweet little boy who has won our hearts over in just a couple weeks will be going home with his family tomorrow night.  They'll have all weekend to get to know each other.

We'll do one more update on him after his big departure from us.  We'll miss him, but this is all part of the process and he will finally have a home and family of his very own...

Thank you for reading up on Rex and his adventures....

Awesome news!  There is a family coming to meet Rex tomorrow night.  They had their home visit and specifically asked about Rex.  We sat him down tonight and had a good talk with him explaining things.  He looks forward to meeting them and showing them how sweet he is.

He has almost mastered the sit command.  In fact when we are playing fetch we have him sit before we throw the squeaky pig toy.  He is very good at fetch and will bring it back 90% of the time.  He does this really cute thing where he tries to catch the toy as it flies out of your hand when you throw it.  This makes him jump up and flip around and he looks really funny.  Then he lands and runs to get the toy.

Rex did have a couple accidents in the house after none for 6 days.  It was strange that he would do it all of a sudden.  He also seemed to be drinking more water than normal.  We brought him to the vet and he checked out ok.  The vet said he was just getting used to having a consistent supply of water and not pacing his water consumption.  We've paid more attention to it and he has done great since.  No accidents.

Rex and Lucy still play alot and he seems to be getting more confident in his play and interactions.  We do still recommend obedience classes for him to make him an even better pup.

Cross your paws for Rex tomorrw night.  Hopefully it will be another golden RAGOM match.  I'll keep everyone updated...

Thank you for reading up on our little T-Rex.

Resting Up For The Next Play Session

It's Play Time Again!

Friday, April 3, 2009

After having Rex for 6 days now, I am convinced he is house trained, crate trained and just about as sweet as can be.

He is such a joy to have around with his spirit and seems to really be appreciating a warm, safe home with a comfy dog bed and good meals each day.

He has settled down tremendously and will lay down on his dog bed and sleep while we watch TV.  He loves to play fetch and prefers squeaky toys over non-squeaky toys.  I have seen no resource guarding by him and he has met every dog, person and child in a wonderful manner.  I also took him for a longer walk the other day and he was pretty rambunctious on the leash for the first 50 feet, but then walked very nicely using just a flat collar.  He likes to sniff plenty of things, but did not pull while walking.  He is a younger guy so he is curious about everything he sees and smells on the walk.

He and Lucy continue to play a lot and she really likes him.  If he gets a little too excited during the play sessions, she quickly gives out a "Ok, settle down just a bit Rex" bark and he quickly complies.  She is really helping him with his socialization skills and helping him learn his puppy manners.

Rex sleeps great in his crate each night we don't hear a peep out of him.  But I will say that the other night we set the dishwasher to run over night so when that started at 2am, I think it woke him up and spooked him so he howled for about a minute, then went right back to sleep.  It was actually really cute.

Rex is a wonderful little guy and I see him as a very promising dog for the right family.  He is very loyal and very treat/food motivated.  He loves his people.

If you are interested in meeting little T-Rex, let your placement advisor know and we can set up a meet and greet.  I still believe an obedience class would help him be an even better dog than he is and really help his family bond further with him.  I also think living with another dog would be best for him, but not mandatory.  He really seems to like the company and playtime he gets from Lucy.  And it helps burn off some of his puppy energy.

Thank you for reading up on Rex.  He says Woof.

I'm such a happy puppy

I'm ready to play!

When I write my foster updates, I always try to put myself in the shoes (or paws) of my foster and imagine what they are going thru and possibly what they've been thru.  As I stand out in the backyard watching Rex run around with his squeeky chicken toy, bouncing around and just about as happy as can be, I can't help but wonder what he's been thru before he came here.

Was he abandoned on the side of the road?  Was he a victim of the foreclosure crisis and left on the corner to fend for himself?  Was he a much loved family member that ran away or got lost?  In the grand scheme of things, it does not really matter now.  What really matters now is that he is loved and he is safe.  Something I've done since day-one of fostering is every night, when I put our foster to bed I kiss them on their head.  I tell them I love them.  And I promise them that no one will ever hurt them again.  Rex is our 12th foster in just under 2 years and I know everyone of our fosters is still loved each day in their forever home....

It makes me so happy to see Rex so happy and excited to be loved again.  He smiles alot and has such a happy demeanor.  I imagine this will only get better as it really sinks in with him that he has been rescued and will never have to roam again....It is so rewarding to be part of this experience....

Rex loves his squeeky toys.  He loves to fetch his big squeeky chicken and prance around with it in his mouth.  It is quite a sight to see (and hear).  However, earlier today he de-squeeked the chicken so he is now into any toy we throw for him....

He has settled down quite a bit and giving him plenty of exercise has helped with that.  Afterall, a tired dog is a happy dog.

I believe Rex would do fine in a home with or without another dog.  He certainly likes to play with Lucy and is learning some things from her as he watches her, but as long as he gets his 'fetch time' in each day, I'd say he'd be fine as an only dog.

Rex is now resting up at my feet.  He is sleeping and snoring a bit....  Rex is an angel....

If you think Rex could be a good fit for you and your family, let your placement advisor know and we can set up a meet and greet.  I think he likes it here, but I know he would like it even better if he had a forever home of his own.

I know Rex is not a pure-bred, but he is truly golden in heart, personality and soul.  He is just a gem....

Thank you for reading up about our slender little guy who has won our hearts over in just a couple days.....

Ok.  So we've known Rex for 21 hours now and we've learned quite a bit about him already.

First off, I took him to the vet this morning he passed with flying colors on all tests and is updated and ready for adoption.  He weighed in at 49 lbs and is healthy.  The vet feels he won't get much bigger, but may fill out a bit with quality food and good exercise.

Last night I put him in his crate at 11pm and went to bed.  I did not hear  peep out of him all night.  He slept great and I'm guessing part of that was that he was pretty tired from his long trip up yesterday.   I got up at 7am and let both pups out.  Rex ran out and immediately pee'd for a minute straight so he really had to go and he held it in all night.  That's great.  I hesitate to say he's 100% housetrained, but he hasn't indicated any inkling of going inside and always does his business outside when we have him out there.

After the vet this morning, I took Rex up to the RAGOM event in Roseville.  He did great!  I'm sure it was a bit overwhelming for him, but he behaved great and loved greeting all the kids and people and other dogs.  Everyone agreed he is very cute!  I was especially happy to see how he greeted children in such a sweet way.

Rex did meet our two cats last night and he showed no interest.  I think he is cat approved.  Rex also rides very well in a car.  He likes to stick his head out the window at slow speeds and then settles in for the highway speeds.

Rex is a great pup.  He seems to be settling in nicely and is sleeping on the rug next to me as I type this.  I think he is exhausted after the last day and a half.  Rex would definitely benefit from an obedience class since he does still have some puppy energy.  He seems to walk pretty well on a flat collar, but does bounce around when he gets excited and will ocasionally jump up on me.  He knows sit as a command, but could be better at it.

Please remember that Rex is only 8-9 months old so he is still a puppy.  I just know he is going to be a great dog for the right family that will provide him with lots of love and exercise.  I can tell he very loyal to his family and eager to please.  He is very well behaved for a pup his age....

We are very happy to have him as a foster.  He looks forward to meeting you.  He sends you his puppy kisses and thanks you for reading up on him.

And a big thank you to RAGOM for giving this sweet boy a chance at the golden life and getting him out of the shelter he's been in for the last month and a half.  He is very happy to be out of jail!

Please let your placement advisor know if you'd like to give this sweet boy a golden home...
