Are you saying .... Awwww? I know! Super cute dude! Meet Roger. Roger is a 10 year old, male, 78 lb, golden mix. He has a medium golden color, shorter, lab like fur, a tail with a white tip, and ears with black hair on the lower half, and long legs. Roger is a very sweet and loving dog that came into RAGOM because he was found as a stray. I am so glad this sweet senior boy is safe in rescue... his future is GOLDEN from here on out. Yay!

We know nothing about Roger's past. I have learned that he is 99.9% house trained. He did lift his leg to mark our wall (but as of right now he is unneutered so this is not surprising.. this will soon change!) since that incident he has had no accidents. He knows commands like: sit, down, shake, and even "sits pretty"! Someone loved this guy at one point in his life, that is for sure. He is social and loving with people and animals. He does have some scarring on his face from an old injury of some kind... who knows what. I doubt it was a "scrap" of any kind judging from his nature, unless he was strictly on the receiving end. I would guess it was a tangle with a wild animal... or maybe a fence or something?! Who knows. Either way, the hair loss is permanent, but gives him a character! :) His house manners are very good. He goes into a crate for now when we are away but I am sure could be trusted with free roam after he settles in. He sleeps at night soundly next to our bed, and likes to lay at your feet and just be where you are. He is not demanding of attention but loooves to bury his head in your lap if you want to give him some lovin'. He's adorable!

Roger saw the vet yesterday and got all of his vaccines and his microchip. There is one concern about his health. He has a suspicious looking sore on his back end. The vet is concerned it could be a tumor. Roger will have surgery Wednesday morning for his neuter, during that time a biopsy will also be taken to find out for sure what we are dealing with. Please keep this boy in your thoughts and prayers!! We will keep you updated. Stay Tuned!

We have had the honor of dog sitting Roger for 10 days. Can you say adorable? He met our family without any problems. We have two resident dogs, one a former RAGOM dog Regis (02-155), a beagle/terrier mix, and a very friendly cat. The dogs all get along, there has only been one scuffle over a certain prized toy (which was Roger's). When that happened all the toys were taken up, and were off limits for a while. They all have squeaky orange ball toys that all the dogs squeak simultaneously together and it sounds like a clarinet concert! Roger does like to sneak his way onto the couch every once in a while. We caught him with the TV changer in between his front legs and he looked at us as if to say "I wonder if my new 'digs' has Animal Planet!". Over the Fourth of July holiday, we had family and friends over for a BBQ and he did wonderful with everyone. He actually laid in the middle of all of us (I think he thought the party was for him).

On Tuesday we started Roger on Dasaquin which is a joint supplement, hopefully this will help with his sore hips and legs. But that doesn't stop him from enjoying his slow walks that he goes on two times a day. Roger looks like a Clydesdale horse when he walks since he lifts his front paws so high in the air.

He is the dearest dog ever!

Hi everyone! I have had a good week! I had to visit the vet to see if my blood work was okay while I am taking the Rimidyl for my arthritis. The tests came back great, so I can keep on taking the medicine to help me feel more comfortable. When I had my blood drawn they thought it best to put a muzzle on me and I did super! I didn't even flinch. I just kept my eye on FM while she fed me cheeze whiz on a stick and told me everything was okay. I have gained 9 pounds since April, so they are cutting my food back a little. It must be all those treats for being such a great dog! The extra weight puts more pressure on my hips, so it's important to keep me healthy. I don't seem to mind that I have less for dinner and breakfast because sometimes I don't finish it anyway.

I have a new couple of toys to play with. My FM got some orange kong squeaky balls and I can see those better than the green ones when she throws them for me in the yard. I also LOVE my new blue rubber Frisbee. I really tried to tear it up, but it's pretty durable. You can see how happy I am with my new toy in the picture. My foster family had to go on another trip and as much as I would prefer not to move around another family stepped up to look after me. I get to hang out with a couple of other dogs which will be a change of pace for me. The mom seems really great and understands that I'm a senior who just wants to lay low and have some good head scratches. When my FM took me to the new house today I decided to climb up into my Foster Brother's booster seat. My FM isn't sure why I stayed there as it was a pretty tight fit, but I stayed there for the short ride over to my new house.

I would really like to settle into a forever home. I would be a very loyal, sweet and loving senior!!!!

Well, I am back at my most recent foster and things are going really well. I had a great time back at the old place while my current foster family was on vacation. I am lucky that so many people want to hang out with me and take care of me.

My FM back here decided to give me another bath - she likes the way it smells on me and I don't seem to mind too much. Last time she had two extra hands to help, but this time she did it on her own and I got nice and clean. She just had to keep me on the leash so I didn't trot away. I decided to shake a few times to cool her off, because it was a hot day. My coat is always nice and fluffy after the bath.

I missed chasing the squirrels in the yard. Sometimes while I am lounging on the deck I see one out of the corner of my eye scrambling across the yard and I think I can catch it, so I take off and leap off the deck. It makes my FM nervous because of my hips, but so far so good and I only do it once in a while, and I still haven't caught one - oh well. Speaking of my hips I do take two kinds of medication that together cost about $88 a month. There is a possibility that if you are interested in me you could discuss with your vet potential options.

The other thing my FM has noticed is that I absolutely LOVE to ride in the car!!!! If I see her with the keys I try to squeeze out the back door and make a run for it to the garage. Sometimes she has to persuade me back to the house with a treat if I can't go, and that usually works - can't pass up a good treat.

Can't wait to find that forever home. I am a good 'ol senior just looking for someone to spend some time with me.

Hey there Roger fans! Boy is Roger glad that heat is over! That was rough on our walks. He is so great on a walk as he gets a spring in his step that lasts for a good 20 seconds and then I think he remembers he might be a little too old for that pace. What a trooper - he'll pick it up briefly when happily encouraged. He does like to stop and sniff at every shrub, tree and plant which can make a short walk take a little longer, but that's okay, he's just enjoying everything that he can. And even after a walk, all tired out, he'll go fetch the ball at least once in the yard before he decides to just lay in the grass and keep it close. He is happy to let you take the ball from him, but he may choose to drop it for you as well.

Roger seems to have a liking for human food, although we don't hand it to him. He does like to follow me into the kitchen and look at me longingly for something. He will also wait for the kids to drop something which is likely to happen. But Roger has never gone after anyone's food, but gladly takes treats on a regular basis.

Although Roger has been doing a nice job in our house, he is most happy while the kids are at school which tells us that he should be in a home with no kids or older kids to spend the rest of his golden days. He is such a charmer - easy to curl up with and just hang out.

Please contact your placement advisor if you would like to give Roger his forever home.

Roger is such a great, mellow senior. He has joined our family in the last 3 days and just won over the hearts of everyone who has met him. He has many fans in our neighborhood ages 10 and under. He is happy to greet them and receive a pet or two in return.

While the kids are away at school he usually follows me around the house. He stays on the main level and sleeps soundly in our living room at night. The stairs are too much for his hips/rear legs. He doesn't seem to mind though, as he quickly accepted his bed in the air conditioned living room.

This guy is incredible given that he was found as a stray in the middle of winter and is now with his 3rd foster family in 4 months, by no fault of his own. He seems just fine with the changes and simply wants someone to love him. He looks right at you with those big brown eyes and all you can do is shower him with attention. He certainly seems like he has been in a family situation before. Anyone would be lucky to have him. He is a gem.

Hi everyone -

Here is a goofy picture of Roger from the event at the Ollu dog wash last Saturday. Enjoy!!

We wanted to let all the Roger the dodger fans know that Roger moved to a new foster home. We have company staying with us for 6 weeks and our AC went out so for Roger's comfort we asked another foster to help us out...We will miss our love bug soooo much, he has become part of our family and the house will seem empty without him.

Roger is in a home that has 3 kids from the age of 5 1/2 and up. He met the 5 1/2 year old like he had known him forever. Rog checked out the fenced yard and climbed right into the sand box to check out every corner of it too. Currently he is going to be an only dog, but he does just great with other dogs as he has been at our house with our scottie. I think he will settle in just fine at his new foster's house. We love you Roger the Dodger, you have won our hearts over.

We had to share some pictures of Roger. He was just a total love bug last night. I, FM, got on the couch and Roger got up there with me. FD then came and sat with us. Can you say "Doggie Heaven"? Roger got to try and be the smallest 80 pound dog, which is hard to be mind you. He cuddled up between FM & FD, he got to touch us both and got lots of love, pets and cuddle time. He would lay his head on FD what a cute site. I got up and moved to a chair and Roger got up and buried his head into me. So I moved back to the couch and here comes Roger to lay with us. What a character. I just think he is so wonderful.

Enjoy the pictures of Roger and FD cuddling.

Happy Spring!! So Roger has had quite an exciting weekend. His regular foster family went out of town, so we were lucky enough to get to temp foster him. He has been such a GREAT guest. He arrived on Thursday and met our resident golden and pretty much ignored her crazy attempts to welcome him to our house. He did do one growl when she got too close, but that’s not crazy considering he had no idea what was happening and why he was in a new house. That night, we sat outside around the fire pit and he wanted the stick Savannah was chewing on. He took it from her and was a bit growly, but was respectful when I went to take it from him. Other than that, he has settled in and we haven’t heard another peep from him, even during the night. He’s been a perfect gentleman.

Roger really just likes to chill with people. He would make such a great companion to someone that doesn’t expect a lot of activity. While I watch TV, he just lays at my feet. He will nudge for loves and pets, but not in an annoying way. It’s more that he wants to say “Thank you for caring.” Roger has those gentle senior eyes that will just melt your heart.

We gave Roger a bit of a makeover by cleaning his ears, giving him a bath (which he tolerated), and lots of brushing. I’m pretty sure his forever family will want to invest in the Furminator! He likes to get brushed, but he does produce quite a bit of hair. I guess that’s just part of being a dog! Being that he was a stray, we don’t know how many grooming sessions he has had, but he takes them like a champ.

Because of his joints, I was told stairs can be a bit difficult for Roger. I have been very surprised because he has done quite well going up and down the stairs from our deck (7 steps). In addition to handling the deck stairs, it turns out he likes couches and has no problem curling up on one! I think he might enjoy a nice comfy couch in his forever home. Do you have one that you want to share with a sweet pup? We put up the baby gates when we leave or go to bed, and he has done great. He hasn’t tried to counter surf or chew on anything inappropriate. I would call him the perfect houseguest. We’ve only had him for a few days, but I would definitely recommend Roger to anyone wanting a distinguished senior to share their life with. If you would like to meet Roger, I’m sure his FM would love to set up a meeting, just contact your Placement Advisor. You would be a lucky family. I’ve attached a couple pictures of his stay with us. He loves to chase this pink ball and throws it back and forth in his mouth—so cute. Needless to say, he’s going home with this new favorite toy! Hope you enjoy the pictures of this sweet boy!

To Roger,

Thanks for being such a great dog! We hope you find your forever home soon. You deserve it! You’re always welcome to come visit us anytime! Best wishes, sweet senior! Love, temporary FM, FD, and Savannah

I can not believe that Roger has been here for almost 3 weeks. He is such a wonderful, laid back kind of guy and easy to have around. He enjoys his little walks through the neighborhood, likes hanging out with FM & FD & his foster dog sister. Most of all he is a total and complete "LOVE BUG". I can not tell you how great this gentleman really is.

I came home from work early today and he follows me where ever I go. He is content just sleeping on his bed or hanging out with me outside. Last night we had some people over and they brought their 10 year old son. The 10 year old said that he and Roger could be twins because they were the same age. It was funny to hear him say that. Roger wanted to get in the car with the boy and most of all was as mellow as can be. I can say that Roger would be great with kids, especially if they are older kids and understand how to act around dogs.

If you are looking for a mellow, laid back, "Love Bug" Roger is just that. He is the most laid back guy that I know. Please consider a senior today as they are very special dogs.

Here are some new pictures of Roger.

Our sweetest Roger will be moving to a new foster home tomorrow. We are so sad that he is leaving us, and we will miss him tons. However, we know this move will make Roger the happiest... and that is always the ultimate goal. His new foster home will only have one resident dog, and no one year old baby :) So, he'll have more peace, and more attention. I think Rodge will very much enjoy the quieter setting. He's been doing great here... but I can tell at times he wishes he could nap in peace and the playing foster sisters and baby who just learned to throw a ball all become a little much for our senior sweetheart. So, we will wish Roger the very best and I am sure the tears will be flowing as I hand him over tomorrow. Good news is we get to Roger-sit in a few weeks while new FM and FD take a weekend trip. :)

Roger is such a funny guy. I think I have failed to mention his LOVE of tennis balls... all balls really. He is a retriever that is for sure! He isn't so sure about the dropping part.. but he does give in eventually :) Roger loves to go for his walks and prances and pulls a bit on a flat collar... he has spunk! We walk him in an Easy Walker harness and he does perfectly. Rodgey is such a special, sweet soul. He just melts into you when you give him pets, it is so cute! As much as he loves his walks and to play with tennis balls he is just as happy to lie faithfully at your feet, gotta love that!

Enjoy the new pics.... one of him snoozing, one of him being a "lap dog" (he has NO idea he weighs 80 lbs!), and one of him on the couch just tonight. He was resting and I opened a candy package and he tipped his head back, upside down... just as you see and begged for about 5 min. I am glad I had my cell phone to capture the cuteness! He's a real gem. We're your biggest fans buddy! We love you :)

Roger had surgery yesterday and we received great news. The tumor on his backside was removed, and was benign! No cancer! YAY! He came through the mass removal and neuter surgery with flying colors, and was given a clean bill of health. His bloodwork looked great, so good news all around! He is now back at his foster home to recuperate from surgery, and he is doing very well. The staff at the vet clinic had nothing but great things to say about our Rogey boy... they said he was a total doll. We agree :)

Roger has earned free roam day and night here. The marking incident was a one time thing. He has proved to be house trained and completely trustworthy when we are sleeping or gone at work. At night be curls up on our bedroom floor on a dog bed and doesn't move a muscle all night. During the day he has found that the couch is a good place to nap while we are away at work (sorry... the resident dogs have taught him fast!).

The first couple of days Roger seemed nervous and very scared around our 11 month old son. I just think he had never seen a crawling baby before! And crawling babies get into everything... and they are loud! We thought we needed to get him into a new foster home because of this. Well, after the first day he started to relax, and now he doesn't seem afraid at all anymore. He gathers around the highchair at meal time with the rest of the dogs... and has realized, "hey this little guy isn't scary... he throws food to us just for sitting here!" :) In any case, we will continue to take things very slow and controlled with Roger and our little man... but this boy is sweet as pie and I am convinced he just needed a little time to chill, de-stress, and know he was safe. Now he has settled in and seems happy as can be.

So, Roger gets along with everyone and everything! He is mellow and loves to lay at your feet and keep you company. But, he also has a nice amount of spunk and loves to accompany us on walks, he keeps up just fine (we didn't tell him he's considered a senior)! He looooves car rides and hops right in. He sits quietly the entire time and is a perfect passenger. We call Roger a "move in ready" guy. He would fit in almost anywhere. He just loves to be loved. He is the kind of dog that you can tell by looking in his eyes how thankful he is to be loved and to be rescued. If you are interested in learning more about Roger and becoming the love of his life contact your placement advisor and we can chat. Thanks for reading! :)
