Ronnie (short for Veronica) came into RAGOM as a stray. She is eagerly learning commands and manners, especially if treats are involved. Because she has mouthy tendencies, any children in her forever home should be age 10+. Ronnie can live with other easy-going dogs, but she cannot live with cats. She requires a physical fence. Sweet Ronnie needs someone who will continue to work on training, exercising, socializing, and loving her so she grows into a wonderful family companion.

Ronnie marked the end of her 130-day stay in boarding with a fresh new start. She is celebrating the first day of the rest of her wonderful life! Ronnie has a wonderful new family who has adopted her and is excited to make all her tomorrows filled with love, security, and happiness.

Ronnie's first day at HOME!

Poor Ronnie had to have a tough start to that wonderful day because she had her spay and rear dew claw removal surgery. We also found out during her surgery that poor Ronnie had at sometime been shot with BBs. All procedures went very well, and Ronnie is getting to spend time with her new family and their fur friend as she recovers.

Ronnie has had a tough start to her short life, but she is in great hands and will blossom into an incredible, affectionate pet. Enjoy your journey, Ronnie! Be a brave, good girl and keep learning the good stuff! You are loved by many!

Ronnie has been very busy lately. She has a family interested in adopting her! It was time to get Ronnie to the vet for her wellness check and a complete exam, and then we made plans for her to have her spay and her rear dew claws removed. Ronnie did very well at the vet. They were very good at making her visit fear-free!

Ronnie had her initial meet-and-greet with her interested family at the boarding facility. With a slow approach and lots of treats, all humans and dogs learned to enjoy each other.

The first visit went well, so it was decided that we meet again the following weekend at their home. Again, a slow approach, a nice walk, and lots of treats made for a successful visit!

This is such exciting news for Ronnie and her new family! The next step is to have surgery and make the adoption official. Stay tuned!

Ronnie’s home is a boarding facility right now, and it is currently under construction. This makes it difficult to have a place to give her time out of her kennel and off her leash. Thankfully, my brother-in-law has volunteered his house to occasionally let Ronnie visit and experience a house.

This is the face she gave me when I played the piano. I can see the wonder in her eyes... too cute!

Veronica 19-197

She has so much fun at the house. I made her her own toy box which she loves to dig around in to find something new. She will fly up the stairs to share with me, and then we play with her toys again and again. She loves to squeak! She loves elk bones; they are her absolute favorite!

I showed her the door to go potty outside, and she easily figured that out and will go to the door when she wants to go out. I use a long leash in the yard, and she has figured out how to bounce around in the snow, sniff around for sticks to chew, and, of course, do her potties.

Fair warning: this food-motivated sweetheart knows that counters and trash cans have tasty things! She will definitely need to be trained and redirected with that. She is smart, so I know she will learn quickly.

Enjoy these videos, and put your sound on!

We are so excited for Ronnie. She has been introduced to a half day of doggy daycare, three days a week, as an activity while at boarding. She is doing marvelously, and we are very proud! She has even developed a friendship with a couple of dogs that visit regularly. She goes on days when it is quieter in the daycare. This is working well, and she is having fun learning from her doggy playmates.

Our sweet Ronnie spent a couple of weeks in a foster home with two other dogs, one of whom was older and did not enjoy the playfulness of a young pup. It was decided that Ronnie should live with a family who delights in her puppy self and, better yet, engages her in play!

Ronnie's return to boarding was by no means a defeat. Rather, the progress she made in the aforementioned foster home reinforced our belief in her great potential to become a wonderful family companion.

She quickly learned the household routines: going potty outside, feeding, work and sleep schedules while using her crate, playing with balls, going for walks, and hanging around the house. This smart little girl had so much fun learning!

If you are looking for a highly trainable pup with youthful energy and the most adorable face, Miss Ronnie is waiting to meet you! In the meantime, she is enjoying her visitors for walks and attention.

Good morning, RAGOMland.

This is Ronnie signing in for the first time since I left boarding on Saturday and came to this new place called a foster home. The people were talking about me, and here is what I found out:

  1. I am very smart. I was told to go potty, and then this big, white door opened. The next time I heard “Do you wanna go potty?” and I ran to the door, they were impressed. I hear something once and I just remember it.
  2. I like to show people what I can do. And I do it quickly. If you say, "Ronnie, sit," I sit and look at you to see if you are happy. It is nice to get a little treat for doing it. Boy, I will do a lot for treats, so keep them handy, please.
  3. I like my crate. I go in there without any issues and hang out quietly. I like to come out and play, but while you are away, my crate is my home. Give me a Kong and I will be just fine.
  4. I don’t bark a lot, but when I do, it isn’t loud and it is kind of musical.

I know I am not a Golden Retriever, but I am sweet like one! I just want to be loved and to love you back. Please consider taking me home so I can be a part of your life. I am ready to be your loving pet.

Before I sign out, I also want to do a shout-out to someone who sponsored me. It sure makes me feel very special that someone thought I was special enough to sponsor. Thank you so much. I promise to be a good girl and show you that I was worth it!

Ronnie

Hello from Veronica, aka Ronnie! Ronnie continues to impress everyone who knows and loves her with her intelligence and eagerness to please! She responds to training so well and learns fast. She has come such a long way!

Today we went for a long walk despite the cold, and she loves being outside, exploring her world. On our way back inside, she sat so politely before going through two sets of doors. Though I am sure she wanted to stay out even longer, she was so obedient when it was time to go in and get warm (at least the human here thought it was time!).

Check out how adorable she is in the video!

Ronnie is still dreaming of a fur-ever home that will keep up the great work with training and teaching her new things. She also wants to feel safe and loved - something she probably has not had in her life before, but is so ready for. She wants to become someone's best friend!

Okay, I sat. Now pleeeeze let's go walk!

Ronnie has had two fun adventures lately. In our first adventure, we wanted to find out what Ronnie thought of cats. She thought it was fun and exciting, but the cat definitely didn’t. It has been determined, for the safety of a cat, that Ronnie should not live with cats!

I have been feeling sad for Ronnie, as it’s been approximately 2 months since she has been in a home, so our second adventure was to spend time with me at our house. My husband helped make that happen for her today. He got our dog, who is not at all dog-friendly, out of our house so Ronnie could enjoy a taste of being a normal pet. She did so well and had so much fun.

Here is Ronnie when she first came into our house.  She had fun bopping and sniffing around.

Ronnie enjoyed playing with the toys in our toy basket. She liked the squeaky ball and the squeaky hedgehog.

Ronnie loved some boney chewing time.

A little afternoon snack is always a fun tasty thing to do.

We played outside in the backyard, and when she decided she was done, she knew right where the door was and told me, “Let’s go in!”

Ronnie is so ready for a home. Can that be you?

Ronnie is having fun getting ready for the holidays. Each time we come back from our walk, she jumps up on the holiday bench near the door and wants to get some lovin’. She likes sitting up high on the bench while she watches what’s going on at boarding.

The boarding staff enjoyed giving Ronnie a break from her kennel space so she could pose with their mascot, Chester, who is all dressed up for the season. Check out their adorable picture!

Ronnie has more good news. A Christmas present came early. She will be getting four in-house training sessions so she can keep learning how to be the best girl. Check out this video which shows some of what she knows so far. It will be fun to see what skills she will learn from her training sessions.

This little lady will make a great pet for someone someday. She is so proud of herself and she loves interacting in our fun training times together. Isn’t it nice to see her shine!

Ronnie hopes everyone has a Shiny, Happy Holiday!

Ronnie has had some opportunities, as dogs come and go from boarding, to meet and say hi to another dog while both dogs are on leash. She is very appropriate with her dog greetings. She will give a couple of barks to let you know that there is another dog in the distance, but her bark seems very much like just a normal alert.

Ronnie went on an exciting adventure to a foster's home to see how she would do around other dogs. I picked her up from boarding, and she travelled nicely in the crate that I have in my car.

When we arrived at the foster's home, we went through the house to get to the backyard. We walked past a crate with a German Shepherd in it. Ronnie sniffed to say hello without much of a reaction from either dog. Since I have not seen Ronnie off her leash, we opted to have her drag a long lead and let her explore a little before we added a new dog to the mix.

Ronnie did well playing with Phoenix. He is a little older, but he could encourage a good run. He is about her size and a pretty mellow dog. I think Ronnie would do fine with other dogs as long as they are easier-going and not too alpha or aggressive.

Attached are a couple of videos so you may see for yourself! I hope you’re proud of her. I know I am!

Ronnie is approximately a year old and has an unknown beginning. We do know that she was caught as a stray in a live trap and brought to RAGOM through a string of rescue help.

When she first arrived, she was very scared and nervous. We do not know how long she had been on her own, but she appears to have been a house pet.

She also did not respond to names. She was given the name Veronica, which has now been shortened to Ronnie, and she is learning that name! She will now come to her new name when you call it in your happy voice, especially when she gets treats.

There is not a foster available for Ronnie right now, so she is staying at a boarding facility in Blaine, MN. There are wonderful volunteers that visit, spend time with her, and take her on walks.

Ronnie has been keeping her kennel clean, so we believe she is housebroken. However, it is evident that she has not had any behavioral training. When she has visitors, they work on basic training.

She so wants to please you and has proven she wants to learn. She has actually gotten very good at "sit."  She now knows "down" ("drop") and is starting to learn to give a "shake" paw. She is treat-motivated, which makes training fun for everyone!

Ronnie is such a sweet dog. She likes to be petted and wants to be near you. She is still puppy-like, so she can be mouthy with her play. She is learning what the appropriate amount of mouthy play is. If she gets too mouthy, she is easily distracted with a little play of fetch. She will also play tug, but she loves that too much, so we are trying to downplay tug!

Keep checking in on this little diamond in the rough. She is hoping to sparkle soon!
