Rory (Aeon 06-088)

Profile

Aeon was surrendered to RAGOM when his owner did not have time to attend to a young dog. Aeon is lacking in socialization and needs exposure to many things in order to become a well-adjusted dog. He will benefit from a confident dog to show him the way. Children should be older due to his uncertainty around noise and fast movements. Aeon needs a home that is ready to help him develop skills he missed out on and guide his development into a great companion.

Rory passed away on Friday July 19, 2019. It was sudden and unexpected and needless to say our hearts are broken. Rory was Aeon 06-088 before we adopted him. Below is a picture of him from early January 2019. He was so handsome!

Of course such a handsome fellow wouldn't last long in a foster home and he didn't. He was updated on all his shots and neutered, came out running to play and was happy to be "home" for a night. Tonight the G family came. Aeon now has a new Mom and Dad and 4 human siblings. He is young and a smart boy who will enjoy his new fenced in back yard and all the love and attention he will be getting in his new Forever Golden Home.

In the short week he was here I watched him go from being very timid and not doing anything.....to coming out of his shell and start to act like a real puppy. He discovered counter surfering would yield him some doggie treats from the very full dish, but also a few other not so tasty things. He found out balls roll and if you push them down the stairs it's great fun to chase them and repeat the trick. Soft squeaky toy, hooves, chew bone and treats were a real hit. He would go out to go poddy and when done I'd say "good boy" and he'd come running, sit right down and wait for his treat.

Aeon is a very loving, well behaved boy who loves to snuggle with you on the couch and isn't a bed hog, so I think just coming into his puppyhood will be fun for the family. They are aware of the accidents, my fault for not seeing the signs, the counter surfing etc., and said yes they wanted him and would deal with it all just fine. So this lucky little boy went outside and hopped right into the van....if he knew he was leaving me he didn't show it......and I held back the tears until he was gone.

Enjoy your new life and family, Baby Boy, you were a joy to have as a house guest for the past week. And thanks to the "G" family for offering him the love, patience and guidance he needs to grow up to be all that he can be.

These 2 pics really sum up Aeon. He is as sweet as his picture, yet loves to rough house outside with Casey. The 2 of 'em play and when they get in it's nap time. I think because of the lack of exercise and being confined, Aeon just doesn't have the stamina at this point. Aeon slept on the bed by me all night. Didn't move until Casey woke us up this morning. He did not chew on anything, didn't jump around, was just a sweetheart. We've had no accidents and been going by the 5 minute rule: outside to potty 5 minutes after waking, eating or hard playing. He seems to have a tremendous bladder capacity and yet goes to the garage door to go out. His appetite is ok, again I don't think he requires much due to no real exercise. I think that will pick up after he gets more active.

He has wonderful manners, sits nicely for treats, sits by the door to go out, sits to get hooked to the rope....isn't real big on jumping unless really excited or scared or when he and Casey are playing and she gets real growly and he gets submissive and then comes whining to me :) She doesn't hurt him....just let's him know she's the boss.

This wonderful boy, I feel, would do well with kids, other dogs to play with, or if kept busy with a family, and obedience would be a must - not just for the training but the socializing. It will take a bit to get him up to par for walking and running, but at this age they catch on so fast and it's such fun to watch them learn. He's still interested in the cats...just has to go check 'em out if they come around. Tho when we are sprawled out on the couch and one of the cats come up, Aeon has to sniff 'em up a bit and then he's fine. He loves to cuddle by putting his head on your shoulder to sleep on the couch, or bury his head in the blankets. I think it's that feeling of laying on one of his litter mates....I take the place of the whole litter :)

Aeon is very smart, catches on fast, is good in the house, has not chewed on anything inappropriate, can sniff out dust bunnies of dog hair anywhere, doesn't beg at the table. An example of how calm he is, last night I took him out front to go potty, had just leaned over and hooked him up when I thought I heard a clattering.....I looked up to see 3 deer come across the street and run down the dead end street on the side of our house. Aeon just sat and looked, probably in shock like me, but never barked or tried to take off.

Took Aeon on a ride to the vet today to turn in a fecal sample, which I am so happy to say was negative for any kind of parasite :) He was very nervous about getting in the Doggie Mobile and needed some help getting in. He went into the vet with no problem and met another dog there and wanted to play, play and try to play some more. I weighed him and he's only 45 lbs. Monday we will get the rest of the scoop. So there's the update on this wonderful sweetheart. You know what to do...contact Placementatragom [dot] org to come meet this wonderboy.

Original Initial Bio: 3/3/06: Aeon arrived this evening, thanks to Tracy and Nala. He was pretty nervous with everything going on....mainly Casey treating our guest Nala not very nicely. We put him in the crate in the kitchen while we tried to see if we could get the girls to make friends...nope!!

So put Casey downstairs and we spent some time in the kitchen and letting Aeon, Nala and Reba get acquainted. Then it was time for Tracy and Nala to head out. Let Casey in the kitchen with us and once she figured out he was a "puppy" and no threat, things settled in.

He is a "talker"...sounds better than a whiner when he tries to get your attention. Very sweet and loving. Kept him on a tether and let him wander and sniff. Took him out and he pottied and gave him praise with some goodies. He was ready to go back in.

Then after the girls came in and I re-bandaged Casey's foot I put Aeon in the crate. He took it pretty well....while we were busy......but then let it be known it was time to come out and join the family. Thought we were all done but he was antsy and kept heading for the garage door, so took him out, hooked him up and he pooped....I think he was saving it for me. So far so good. Will see how sleeping on the bed goes as I'm not up to listening to the crying tonight. He's been thru enough already.

I think he'll be pretty easy to train just by going in and out with the girls. If I get a fecal sample tomorrow a.m. will get to vet before they close. It's always nice to know what surprises are waiting for us.

Monday Aeon goes in to get updated on his shots, get microchipped and then on Wednesday will be neutered. It will give him a couple days to recover before he will have to go to Sam & Danni's spa while we are out of town...unless someone out there is looking for a beautiful purebred 5 month old male that is sweet as they come.

He needs socializing as he was kept in an apartment tied to a bed or couch. Sad to think of him and his cousin tied up and missing out on so much. Right now Mr. Aeon (pronounced eeeee-on or Ian) is hanging down here with Casey and me while they chew on hooves. He has shown no interest in food tonight or even water, which is par for the course, so won't worry as I'm sure come time for breakfast he'll be ready to eat, play and hopefully continue to potty outside.

I think we will work with him to ring the big bell to go out. Will send more pics and updates as things happen. Aeon is a beautiful and handsome dog and when he fills out will be just gorgeous. And so "baby" makes 3....

P.S. He's trying to figure out what the cats are.....pretty funny. More in a couple of days.
