9/5/06: It is with great pleasure that I introduce Miss Rosie, a beautiful petite farm dog turned city girl. A Good Samaritan rescued Rosie and surrendered her to RAGOM so she could find a good home. It didn't take long for this sweet country gal to adjust to life with our family. Rosie is housebroken, has a hearty appetite, gets along wonderfully with our two dogs, and just can't get enough cuddling! She's 100% Velcro and a polite little houseguest. She can stay here as long as she wants while we look for her perfect forever home!

Speaking of perfect, Miss Rosie is perfect in everyway. She knows basic commands like sit, come, and down and is already learning to heel with a Gentle Leader. Miss Rosie lets us take food and toys from her and does not guard things from our dogs. She rarely barks and does not attempt to jump over our 4' fence. She is very patient while being groomed and even lets me trim her nails and clean her ears without complaints! She wasn't too crazy about getting a bath, but stood still for 15 minutes while we washed her. Her coat looks beautiful now and is a pretty dark golden color. Not bad for a country girl who was used to sleeping in the dirt! In my opinion, Miss Rosie is loving life as an indoor dog and the comforts of a fluffy dog bed! In fact, she sleeps so well that my dogs have to wake her up in the morning!

Rosie met the vet today and was given an A+ on her exam! Her heart and lungs sound good and she is physically fit. She is now up to date on her shots. The doctor determined her age to be six years and is a perfect 51 lbs. We told Rosie that she will be retiring from motherhood and getting spayed next week. No more responsibilities as a mom for this pretty lady! Now she can enjoy the next phase of her life as a RAGOM dog with a family who will give her all the love and attention she deserves. If you would like to meet this petite girl, please contact placement.

From Rosie's foster mom:

Rosie came to us after being chained to a tree for months and living in a dirt hole under a trailer. She was a petite Golden mix and a little sweetheart. She wormed her way into our hearts during the two months that we had her. She was very shy, fearful of people and especially men. She tried to nip her adoptive dad when they first met him. Didn’t matter, they loved her and she lived with them for four years in SW Minnesota on 20+ acres of land and was a beloved member of their family. Rosie lived the Golden life with her adoptive family and will always be remembered as a little "Rosebud" that her mom and dad nurtured into a beautiful flower.

Her adoptive parents sent me this e-mail last month:

Good morning Christi and Frank,

Through my tears, I wish to inform you that Rosebud crossed the Rainbow Bridge yesterday morning (12/14/10).

She had a massive stroke, losing her capability to stand or walk. Last year, she had been diagnosed with a heart murmur and we were keeping an eye on some suspicious growths. We knew she was aging but this was so sudden.

The four years we had her in our lives were remarkable. She went from a shy (and grumpy) dog to a dog that ruled our household and its routines. Ron and I are both grieving for our little "princess warrior" that brought us so much joy.

Both Ron and I are appreciative of your love for our Rosebud. We are still shedding tears for her. Our movie nights have been incredibly sad without her excitement; she knew the routine (popcorn popping or ice cream being dished out). This meant she too was going to get some extra treat, i.e., a Busy Bone. Ron said his walks to the mailbox or garbage container have been very lonely. And, I keep expecting to see her poke her nose in my sewing room to see where I am.

We are so heartbroken and lonely without her.

Greetings from Golden Valley! Rosie had fun enjoying the beautiful warm fall weather last week and now that winter has arrived she doesn't seem to mind the cool temps at all! She is such a little sweetheart and we fall more in love with her every day! She is very affectionate and grateful for everything we do for her. She is happy just to be in the same room with us and loves being a pampered indoor dog! Of course my dogs have showed her how to sleep in comfort on the couch and bed! I don't know why I bothered buying dog beds--I rarely see any of the 'Three Amigos' on them!

Rosie loves playing outside with her fur siblings or going for a walk. She is extremely athletic and can keep up with my wild little lab, Katie, in a game of "chase me!" Katie and Rosie leap off the deck in the mornings and fly into the air! Rosie's ears look like wings as they lift up and point straight out. It is so cute to watch her! She has so much energy now that she is completely healed up from her spay surgery and she loves to run and play!

We are learning more about Rosie every day. One thing we have learned is that she is fearful around strangers. We think she may have been abused at some time in her life and she needs to learn that she can trust people and they will not hurt her anymore. We are helping her learn that meeting new people can be a good thing and she does not need to be afraid. Rosie started obedience class last week. We think a structured class will help her gain confidence, expose her to other dogs and people, and help us learn how to work with her in different situations. The first day went very well! Rosie is a fast learner and very treat motivated! Rosie's forever home should be a quiet haven where she can relax and become the confident girl she was meant to be. She needs a patient mom or dad who will give her all the unconditional love and understanding she deserves. In return, she will be a devoted best friend and faithful companion. If you think you might be the right one for Miss Rosebud, please contact placement.

Hi everyone!

My foster mom said it's my turn to type on the computer and tell you what's new in my life. (She's checking my spelling of course!)

First of all, I was sad because I didn't get to go to the RAGOM picnic on September 16. Mom said it was really fun! Lots of dogs, prizes, swimming, and treats! I was still recovering from my spay surgery and the doctor said I had to take it easy.

I finally got my stitches out and can run and play again. Yippee! One of my favorite games is called "You Fetch-I Tug". Katie and I play this game. She runs to fetch the ball and I grab onto her collar and hang on as tight as I can! Then I tug at her collar while she's running! That frisky Katie tries to drag me all over the yard! You should see my 'Flying Nun' ears take off in the wind during that game! Mom and Dad laugh when we play and act silly. It's hard work trying to hold on to a 50 lb. moving object! By the end of the day I am exhausted! In fact, last night mom took a picture of me sleeping on her bed! She said I looked pretty cute!

There is a RAGOM event at a place called "Chuck and Don's" on Saturday. Mom said it's a Pet Store. If I'm feeling brave I might go and visit dogs and people. Sometimes I get scared when I make new friends, so I might be too afraid to be in a crowded place with lots of people I don't know. I didn't meet lots of folks when I lived on the farm, mostly just chickens, horses, cows, and a few pigs. I don't think Chuck and Don allow cows in their store, do they?

Well friends, it's time for me to go and give Mom some snuggles and kisses. She looks sad! I think she needs TLC! Last night she had tears in her eyes when she told me that someday I will be moving to a "forever home". Don't worry Mom, I will always love you and be grateful for all you and RAGOM have done for me. My life is much better now!

Love and kisses,

Your little Rosebud

Sleepy Little Rosebud.

Greetings from Golden Valley!

Our sweet little country girl, Rosie, has stolen our hearts and we fall more in love with her every day! It will be very hard for us to say goodbye to her when we find the perfect forever home. In the meantime, we are treasuring each special moment and spending lots of time just snuggling, playing, walking, and getting to know her better. The more we get to know her, the more we love her!

Rosie is recovering very well from her spay surgery last week. She also had a benign mammary tumor removed and that is also healing up very nicely. We let Rosie get out to play and run in the backyard without a leash for the first time since her surgery and boy, did she play! She took her favorite blue squeaky bone outside and then ran in circles around it. She ran round and round as fast as she could and then she stopped and barked at her toy! It was the cutest thing! After that, Katie and Rosie played a rambunctious game of hide and seek around the shed and chased each other all over the yard!

Another really cute thing Rosie does is to bury her favorite toys. She must have learned this trick on the farm. One day, I found what looked like a partially buried dead brown animal near my fence, only to discover that it was a toy Rosie had buried! She also tried burying a tennis ball. What a mess that was! I thought she had buried her favorite blue stuffed bone outside and I have been looking for it for days. I found it today, buried under a couch cushion!

Rosie has gotten over her fear of going down stairs. In fact she has so much fun exploring the other levels in our house she will go up and down multiple times when I'm doing laundry! I guess on these rainy days the kids need to get their exercise somehow!

Speaking of exercise, Rosie, Katie and Robbie have found some fun games to play while it is cold and rainy outside. They spend lots of time playing Ninja and they kick and throw each other on the floor. They also play T-rex and chew on each other's necks and look very ferocious! No one ever gets hurt or cries, so it's all in good fun. Sometimes, they look like they're boxing or playing tag with paws flying in all different directions. For those of you who have never had 2+ dogs, let me tell you, it is a blast! My husband and I love watching the dogs play and we are constantly laughing at their funny antics!

It has been very rewarding fostering Rosie and watching her become a confident, fun loving sweetheart. She was very shy when we first met her, but now she is very affectionate and can't seem to get enough snuggling. I guess she's making up for lost time. She probably didn't have much time for relaxing with her human family when she was a busy farm dog!

I'll let Rosie try her paws at the computer for her next update! That is, if she can part with her fur siblings and toys for a few minutes!

Tag- you're it!

Hi everyone!

Miss Rosie here, relaxing and bored out of my mind after having surgery this week! I can't wait until I can run and play again! But I'm really glad that I won't be having puppies anymore! I guess that's what being "spayed" means, right? I need time to just be a girl and find a forever home where I can enjoy the Golden Life as a pampered queen!

Speaking of pampered, I am really getting pampered by my foster mom while I recover from my surgery. Rest, snuggling, ear massages, breakfast in bed, tea and crumpets, and pedicures. What a life! I don't even have to do chores like I did when I was a farm dog! No chickens to chase, sheep to herd, nothing but taking it easy and lots of naps!

I won't be able to go to the RAGOM picnic because Mom wants me to rest at home where I won't be tempted to flirt and play with all the handsome Golden boys. My stitches need time to heal and I have to take it easy.

Since you won't get to meet me at the picnic, I let mom take a picture of me with a silly cone thing on my head! The cone didn't stop me from playing with my favorite squeaky toy though! Hee, Hee!

Contact placement if you'd like to come over and play a game of fetch with me. Mom might even take off my cone so you can see my cute ears!

Love,

Rosie

Greetings from Golden Valley!

Rosie continues to enjoy her new life as a city girl! She spent her whole life as a farm dog doing chores and had no clue what a toy was until she came to live with us! The first time I squeaked a toy for her she jumped! She was very startled and not sure what it was! Then I squeaked it again and gave it to her. She carried her new toy around for hours! Then we introduced Rosie to balls: tennis balls, Kong balls, and squeaky balls. She wasn't too sure what to do with those either! But two days ago, for the first time since we've had her, she fetched a tennis ball and then chewed and chewed every so softly! It looked like she just wanted to enjoy the texture and taste but not destroy it! She also discovered that tug of war is great fun with her foster fur siblings! In many ways, she acts like a puppy mill dog who is experiencing things for the first time in her life! It is really fun to watch Rosie explore her new world!

Although Rosie grew up on a farm, she is adjusting very well to life as an inside dog and hasn't had any accidents at all! She can be left alone in the house for 9 hours while we are at work. Rosie sleeps on her dog bed while we are gone and has not done any inappropriate chewing! As far as getting around the house though, Rosie is not used to maneuvering down steps and is afraid to go to the basement with us. With a little coaxing she got down one step! Hooray! She is still young and eager to learn and will have no problem overcoming her fears. Rosie would therefore benefit from obedience class where she would gain confidence and more skills.

Rosie is probably one of the most snuggly and loving foster dogs we have ever had! She will cuddle on the couch with us but is not annoying and does not demand constant attention. She is content to be near her human friends if we are busy with chores. She is a "Velcro" dog like most Golden Retrievers and will get up and follow us if we leave the room. She does not have separation anxiety though and is quiet when we leave the house for work in the morning.

In conclusion, Rosie is a happy, healthy, petite Golden girl who will make some lucky family the perfect companion and friend!
