Willow was found by a Good Samaritan as a stray on the Leech Lake Reservation in September. She came to us on 9/22 and we have been “loving her up” ever since! It took her just a few days to settle in.

Willow is Yellow Lab mix, approximately 10 years old, and in good health. She has seen the vet and is up-to-date on all of her vaccines. Willow has a bit of arthritis and is on Rimadyl. We have noticed a great improvement in her mobility since she started on this. One of her favorite things to do is to go on walks.

Willow is sweet and gentle. She has been wonderful to our resident senior Golden, Miss Belle. They curl up together for naps.

Willow loves sitting in our living room so she can look out the picture window. You can tell how much she loves the outdoors and may have spent a lot of her life outside. She will need a secure fenced-in yard. You can tell that Willow was with a loving family at some point, as she knows some commands and is so gentle when taking a treat from our hands. She gives the BEST kisses. She has not been exposed to cats or small children, so I don’t know how she would react.

Willow would do well in a home with another dog (maybe mid-senior age), maybe female, but she seems to do well with all dogs. Or, she could be an only dog. She loves to follow us everywhere indoors, but she does just fine when we leave the house for a few hours. She has not been alone yet for a full eight hours, nor has she been alone without our dog. She is a great sleeper at night.

Willow’s only issue is storm anxiety. She paces, pants, shakes, and tries to find a small space to curl up in. We have purchased a Thundershirt for her and will try it out the next time it storms. She needs to cuddle and be close to people during a storm. She did have a few accidents in the house during the thunderstorms last week. She will not go outside when it is lightning and thundering. She will not eat or drink water.

Willow is ready to meet families; however, she will not be ready for adoption until she recovers from surgery to her right eye. She suffered an unknown injury to her face some time ago, and due to the lack of treatment, the scar tissue had affected her eye. Her eyesight, however, was not affected.

Our dear sweet Rosie went to the Rainbow Bridge in May. She had liver cancer. She let us know she wasn't feeling well and within two weeks and several vet visits we said goodbye.

Rose was a stray from the Leech Lake Reservation and had suffered and major injury by another animal that scarred her face badly. In spite of her hard life, she was by far one of the sweetest, most gentle and yes, beautiful, dogs we have been blessed to own. She was with us just a year and a half, which wasn't enough, but it was be best of time for her and for our family. My favorite image of Rosie is when I would come home from work and she would bound out the door prancing and circling her tail. She was so happy. She gave lots of love to our resident golden Belle and we are grateful to her for that. Bless you dear Rosie, we miss you as big as the sky!

Willow/Rosie enjoys her cozy time with resident dog, Belle. They like to lay in the back hall and look out the window. Rosie is healthy, still a little stiff in the hips and shoulders, but daily meds and short walks have done the trick. She has had a good summer! She is shedding her coat right now, so it looks like a blanket of snow is covering the backyard. She is a wonderful old girl and would be an asset to any home.

This beautiful girl continues to thrive and is enjoying the great weather. She is, however, growing stiff in her hind leg and front right leg, which we are treating with some meds for 30 days. She already acts more comfortable! She still enjoys her short walks.

She ended up in our bed last night at 2:30 a.m. due to the thunderstorm. Nothing seemed to calm her down until she wedged between our heads and the headboard. It was quite a sight. ;) We also gave her a natural calming dog med for storms and that helped a lot.

Rosie loves a lot of attention and follows us everywhere we go.

Willow/Rosie continues to do very well following her surgery. The incision has healed very nicely. She continues to be so sweet and loving to our resident senior Golden, Belle, as well as to us "humans." She is not a huge fan of the bitter cold, but will go outside when asked. She loves her short walks around the block for now. Her weight is great - maintaining at around 70 pounds. Anyone would be so lucky to have her.

One of her favorite spots continues to be the back hall so she can cuddle with Belle and enjoy the scenery out the back door.

Rosie is the best, most happy and loving dog ever!

She has recovered very well from her eye surgery. Unfortunately however, she will be undergoing another surgery on December 26th to remove a tumor from her right side. They will be testing for cancer as the aspiration of the cyst was suspicious and contained mast cells. Knowing Rosie, she will bounce back from surgery very well as we await the results. Rosie also continues to lose weight even though we are increasing her food intake. We are monitoring this along with the vet.

She is still a flight risk as any time the garage door doesn't close all the way due to the freezing temperatures, she will scoot out and run for the hills. Fortunately, we are able to catch her before she gets more than half a block. One time however, she did bolt into the street in the path of an oncoming car. Even though she loves her foster home, she still has the need to be free in her blood.

Rosie and our resident dog Belle continue to bond and cuddle by the back door as we leave the house. Rosie is on the left showing you her "good side." :)

We will post an update on Rosie following her surgery.

Friday, November 8, 2013

Willow (we now call her Rosie, which she responds to much better) came through her eye surgery successfully! Her stitches were removed on 11/6 and the doctor said no drops or ointment are necessary. We are just to watch for any discharge from the eye.

Rosie is very happy and so relaxed in our home. She shows us the "circle tail of joy" when we come home, no matter how long we have been gone. We have not been away from her for more than 4-5 hours at a time. She and our resident Golden continue to bond. We can tell that the Rimadyl has helped her arthritis immensely. She still follows us like a little lamb and loves to crash on the living room couch. She continues to be friendly to other dogs, but she has still not been around small children.

Rosie would do well in a home with another dog, but if there is no dog, it would be ideal to have someone home most of the day. She has not been left alone without our dog and we don't think she would do very well. She still has storm anxiety and does have infrequent accidents in the house if we don't get her out fast enough in the morning or after she eats.

Rosie rarely, if ever, barks. She has a bit of laryngeal paralysis, so when she does bark, it sounds very hoarse. You also need to supervise her when she eats her meals, as she tends to eat really fast and it sounds like she is aspirating the kibble. Small amounts at a time are best. She drinks a ton of water and loves all the healthy (joint enhancing) treats we give her.

She is such a wonderful dog. Anyone would be very lucky to have her in their home.
