Ruby 13-366 passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of July 6th. She was suffering from a heart condition called DCM ( Dilated Cardiomyopathy) for the past 8 months and I was lucky to have her for as long as I did. Ruby was known as Peaches when I adopted her in December of 2013 and her name was changed to Ruby. It fit her well because she was a real gem.
Ruby died at the lake where she loved to swim, play with the kids and just chill out on the deck watching the birds and the world pass slowly by. She was the perfect traveler spending her winters in Texas and her summers at the lake. You could always find her surrounded by kids, playing fetch and swimming in the lake. She had her own rules for fetching and trained everyone to play by her rules and to wait to pick up the toy when she backed far enough away. She would carry her leash in her mouth while walking. She garnered lots of attention for this particular trick.
She was a one of a kind dog. She will be missed forever and is now happily romping and playing at the Rainbow Bridge with all my previous Goldens. She was my 4th rescue from RAGOM and I hit the jackpot with her.
Thank you,
Bob M

Initial Bio:
11/12/13:
I’m very pleased to introduce you to Peaches, a lovely spayed female golden retriever with the sweetest personality you’ll ever find! Peaches was found as a stray in northern Minnesota but she has obviously been someone’s special girl. Hard to imagine how she came to be on her own – it’s a mystery. But we do know some things for sure:
- Peaches has impeccable house manners and she seems ready to give up her wandering ways.
- She doesn’t get on the furniture unless you ask her but then she moves quickly just in case you might change your mind.
- She has had no accidents and has quickly learned the rhythm and routine of the household and gets along with all our resident dogs.
- She absolutely loves her dog bed and sleeps in the bedroom with us, hardly moving a muscle all night.
- She knows basic obedience like sit and down and of course, shake. We’re guessing she knows more commands but we just haven’t figured out the right words to use yet. She’s a very smart girl.
The vet estimates Peaches is around 4 years old and she is now current on all her shots. She weighs about 70 pounds and is a medium sized fairly quiet young lady. She enjoys playing with the other dogs but really hasn’t joined in any of the barking or romping in the backyard. Her real joy in life seems to be carrying toys around, hoping to convince someone to toss them so she can do her retriever moves. We’re very cautious, however, about throwing things for Peaches because her knees are bothering her. Her x-rays show that she has arthritis in both knees and needs to take it easy. She manages stairs easily and there really isn’t anything she can’t do (did I mention she’ll get up on the furniture if you ask her?) but we don’t want to cause any unnecessary wear and tear on her knees. She is a great dog – loves to go for rides, would hang her head outside the car window if we’d let her, and is very upbeat and energetic. She would be a great dog for a family who didn’t have young children or who didn’t want a running companion. She’s the kind of dog that follows you around, comes up and rests her head on your lap if you give her the opportunity. When we’re in the car, her favorite thing is to stand in the backseat and rest her head on my husband’s shoulder. So cute!
Peaches was found by a professional dog groomer who carefully removed her matted hair and shampooed her so that her coat just shines. With the weather turning colder, we’re really glad that Peaches made her way to RAGOM and isn’t fending for herself any longer. If you think Peaches might be a good match for your household, please contact your Placement Advisor. We’d like to see Peaches go to a family without young children (she gets very excited about her toys!) and where she can enjoy a fenced yard. She has an absolutely sweet personality and is one of the best couch snugglers we’ve ever met!
