Rudy (Rooney 09-315)

Profile

Rooney arrived here this afternoon, safe and sound. He was picked up by another RAGOM volunteer late yesterday after his time ran out at animal control. We all know what that means...thankfully Rooney is now a RAGOM dog.

Rooney is about 5 years old and was a stray so we know nothing about his previous life. We do know he is neutered, now up to date on his vaccinations and microchipped. We are waiting to hear on his heartworm test. Rooney is one beautiful boy. He weighs about 69 pounds and is overweight, so a diet is in order for Rooney.

Rooney was very dirty when he got here and it was apparent that he had not been brushed or groomed in a very long time. We did give him a bath as soon as he got here, so he has to feel better already. He has tons of undercoat that needs to be brushed out and some very large mats. I have been working on brushing him all afternoon off and on. We do some and then let him alone just to give him a break. He has a gorgeous coat with waves and lots of feathering.

So far he has met our 3 resident dogs and done just fine. He does listen very well to warning growls when he gets one which is a good thing. He found our toy box full of bones and nylabones and he has been carrying many around this afternoon. He is trying to figure out what is going on, and is a little stressed, but I think once he settles in, he will be a laid back dog to have around. He knows some basic commands and does pull pretty hard on a leash, so we will break out a Gentle Leader for him tomorrow. All in all this one great guy.

Rooney seems to be housebroken, but we will keep an eye on him to see how he does.

We will update more as we get to know Rooney better.

I am very happy to say that our Rooney has found his furever home. He has been with us exactly two weeks today and he has been a great house guest. Rooney is such a big goofball with such a great attitude. He greets life with much enthusiasm and happiness and is such a nice boy to have around.

Rooney met a wonderful couple last night and they decided to have him join their family today. He left this morning, on his way to start a new life. I want to give the G. family a big, "Thank You!" for choosing to adopt a rescued dog. We would not be able to do what we do if we didn't have people like you who wanted to open their homes to dogs in need of a place to hang their leashes. We know nothing about Rooney's past since he was a stray, but you are willing to take a chance and give him training, attention and love, which is what every dog deserves.

I miss each and every dog who passes through our house. No matter how long or short their stay, they leave a permanent imprint on my heart. People ask me all the time how I foster and let them go, and my answer is, "It is for the dogs." I know there will always be another dog looking for a place to stay while their journey continues. No matter what, there is someone out there that will find that particular dog special and want them in their lives. All of us do what we can, one dog at a time.
