Rusty 05-242

Profile

9/17/05: Rusty is a 2 1/2 year old male....at this point still intact. He is medium to dark red, definitely all Golden Retriever. He is tall and quite lean and has a beautiful gait as he runs through my yard. He just arrived late this afternoon so this is just a preliminary update. He has met my crew and has passed the Lucky test. He also was greeted with a snarl from the cat which he ignored. He has marked my yard thoroughly and has been quite well mannered in the house. He will be visiting the vet early this next week to get his shots and to make an appointment for neutering. He knows basic commands...so far he comes, sits, shakes and downs...pretty good for the first 2 hours...I am certain he knows more that we will figure out in upcoming days. He came from a family with kids so I am certain he will do well with children of any age. More to come as we get to know each other better.

Rusty is a great dog. He is very active, yet he settles down nicely. He listens quite well and wants to please so badly. He is very submissive with my 2 dogs, pretty much ignores the cat and can co-exist nicely even with the rabbit. I can hold the rabbit in his presence and he might sniff her but he hasn't shown any real desire to harm her. I haven't let her run free unless he's babygated in another part of the house...but since he can (and does) bound over a babygate easily I don't feel she's too endangered by him.

He loves toys and tennis balls (can carry 2 easily) and loves to have something in his mouth. He is not phased by thunderstorms and does not seem to have any fears. He eats like a horse and has already learned that he must sit when he's finished eating to give the other dogs a chance to finish. He's been through alot in the past week and has adjusted well to all of the changes. He'll be a great companion for whomever decides to adopt him. He will be neutered this coming Thursday and after that he will be ready for his new home.
