Rusty is growing like a weed and turning into a strong, athletic little guy. Probably the biggest thing I’m noticing, though, is how affectionate he is. I think he is going to be a Velcro dog like none other. He always wants to be close and he seeks me out for affection. This cutie is all about relationships. He loves to play with dogs of all shapes and sizes, and he’s super cued into people. I think he’ll thrive in an environment where he lives with another dog. If he does not have a 4-legged companion, then he’ll do best in a home where there is lots of opportunity to play with other dogs. He’s very social.
We’ve been working on lots of things this past week. We’re practicing recall when he is out running around and he is really getting the hang of that. When I call, he races to get to me—the treats help too!! We’ve been practicing “sit” for a treat too. He continues to take the lead when he and Gus are exploring and when we are walking. Gus is a natural follower, so it works out well. When Rusty and his littermates came into RAGOM, they stayed with another foster for a week before they were transported to MN. The foster noticed, even then, that he was always the first one to try something—the first one to go up on the deck, up the steps, etc. He’s athletic and adventurous, and he’s smart as a whip. He should really be fun to train, and you’ll have a best, well-behaved buddy for life!
Rusty is making headway in the potty training area. Many nights, I put them out for a potty break sometime in the middle of the night. There have been fewer and fewer accidents. The other night, I slept through and they made it without any accidents—yay!
Let your placement person know if you’d like to meet this little sweetheart!
