Sadie at today's Petco Event.

Sadie is having quite an adventure at her foster home. She has not had any accidents in the house for 2 full work days, and I have not crated her. She is a bundle of energy and excitement, and loves to move ... so much so that it's sometimes hard for her to calm down enough to sleep ... she is mostly responsive to basic commands, but 'sleep now' is not in her repertoire.
She quickly overcame her stairway nerves ... to the point where the stairs are a bit of a novelty for her, and sometimes she runs up and down for the fun of it! When she isn't running to fetch a ball, she wants to stick close, and she wants lots of attention. Initially I felt like she was needing a lot of reassurance that all these house noises and activites were OK, but she seems to have really quickly moved to a stage where this inside the house business is all very EXCITING, and she seems to be having a lot of fun. Since she likes to be close, should you decide to sit on the couch, she will occasionally throw the front half of her body at you to join you in this activity (we're working on 'down'). She really wants to be a lap dog. With a good running start, joining you on the bed is no problem either, and she'll usually stretch out alongside you.
She continues to show little interest in the cats. She is, no doubt, a food snatcher, and will take advantage of anything tasty within reach. She has not, as yet, made any noises; no barks, whines, or play growls. She just lifts her happy face to yours, and with her smile and a paw, begs you to play. Sadie will be microchipped on Wednesday, and will be attending the Maple Grove PetCo event to meet prospective families and make new friends.
From what I can tell so far, she will do best with an active family that will play 'throw the ball' and take her on plenty of long walks/play activities daily. Sadie does well with other dogs and cats. Please note that Sadie is powerful, and in her quest for affection, she can easily pin an unsuspecting human in an impromptu hug, or drag you down the sidewalk in excitement (a Gentle Leader or harness will be a necessity). With a little training and bonding with a new family, I believe she will respond well to commands. I still think of her as sweet and gentle, but now that she's settled in a bit, she is also clearly a dog looking for some fun and excitement! At 7 years old, she will be an active dog for many years to come. If you think she might be a good fit and you're an approved applicant, come and visit her at the Maple Grove Petco on Saturday. If you haven't done so yet, you can apply online now.
