What a difference a week makes. Sadie is feeling good, eating well, seems much more relaxed, loves to show off how she can 'come' and 'sit' (stay is still a challenge) and walks beautifully on the Gentle Leader.  This week, we got a new houseguest... another Golden recovering from hip surgery. Before he joined our pack, I was a little concerned that Sadie would be jealous or too rough with him. Not so... first a sniff-sniff and then he was welcomed with tail wags and face kisses. Every morning, they run to the toy box and then let the games begin. They have a ball playing tug-of-war and have managed to pull apart about a dozen soft toys... white fluffy stuff all over the house. When it's time for FD to rest, Sadie lays down outside his kennel or babygate to watch over him. And at the end of the day, I can always find them sleeping together, usually butt-to-butt (see picture).  So now I'm wondering if Sadie wouldn't be just as happy if her forever family had another furkid. We'll see what happens...  Now, Sadie is ready to start looking for her forever family. If you could be the one, just email placementatragom [dot] org. Sadie & Mickey

Sadie has been with me for a couple of weeks and it's time for an update.    My objective has been to find out as much as I can about Sadie so I can tell you, her prospective forever family, everything I know about her behaviors, likes/dislikes, including the warts, in order to prevent any surprises later on.    Sadie started off the week with a spay and then spent a couple extra nights at the vet clinic because the pain meds stressed her system so much that she ended up constipated and lethargic.  When I finally picked her up, it was all slobbery kisses and waggin' tail as she led me right out to the car, climbed into the passenger seat and co-piloted us home.  Good girl!    She lost the 4 pounds she had gained pre-surgery so she is fashion-model thin again. But she's eating well so should gain back those lost pounds and more by the time we go back for a re-check.  While at the vet, she was x-rayed which showed no hip issues.  Her energy level is good, too, and she is definitely acting more comfortable and relaxed being a loved and well cared for inside dog.      Now, we're working on a couple of habits that I think are a result of her being hungry and spending so many months alone on the street.  One is that she is possessive of her food dish around other foster dog; however, I can hand-feed her, move her dish or pick it up and she doesn't mind.  So I think she would be happiest as an only dog where she would never again have to compete for her next meal.  The other is that she starts to get a little antsy when she sees me getting ready to leave (read: bark bark), so I've started going in and out of the door several times a day to reassure her that my leaving is just temporary and she'll never be abandoned again.  (There was no bark-bark when I left this morning, so that might already be a non-issue.)   I've also found out she loves people, gets along with other dogs, is fascinated by the neighbor's cat, loves to be brushed, has free roam of the house, and respects babygates.    More later...
