Sadie 09-236

Profile
Introducing Sadie is an absolute thrill. Born Oct. 2004 she is spayed, fully vaccinated, and in great health according to her first vet. appointment. She weighted in at 67.4 pounds which is a great weight for her. Sadie is very long legged for a female so a little taller than most females. Although she appears thin to me my previous fosters all needed to diet so my concerns, according to the vet, are unfounded. Sadie is fostered in North Liberty, Iowa.
Sadie came from a family with a small child and according to them gets along with other dogs and cats. She enjoys the water, a good game of retrieve, and walks well on a flat collar with only a titch of pulling. Sadie has had obedience training, is fully house trained, and rides well in the car jumping in and out with ease. Her previous history indicated she eats am and pm. Although she ate Nutro Max she shows a couple of hair loss spots on her front legs and a small lick granuloma so we have switched to Natural Balance grain free. Her previous history indicated she has summer allergies. The lick granuloma tells me she needs more activity than she may have been getting in her previous home. Lick granulomas, licking, and chewing can indicate boredom and giving your dog lots of exercise and other appropriate chew toys can alleviate this behavior.
Sadie has been in my house since last Saturday. She met my dogs well with a few snarfs from my alpha tendency foster Katie. Sadie loves, loves, loves to play. She initiates play with Katie and Gracie by jumping, barking, dancing in a circle, nipping and crawling under their bellies as well as racing past them in the yard as if to say "Get the lead out". For a 4 years old she has an abundance of energy and often doesn't know her own strength or what to do with her long legs as she knocked poor Katie over once and Katie just looked up as if to say "What the heck was that for?". Sadie also has a tendency to mouth when you initiate play or scratch her. This could be an issue with small children and although she corrects easily it occurs each and every time we play.
Sadie needs a home where she can be active and not crated all day. She would do well with a family that loves to go to the park so she can play and run once you feel you can trust her to come back when called (this has not been an issue at my house). Since she is only 4 a jogger in the family or next door neighbor who runs, or even a high schooler willing to take her out would be great. Sadie chases, retrieves, and returns consistently every time. Sadie is a people companion and must have a family who will give her the attention and love she craves. If her family is gone all day a companion dog or daycare might be a good choice. I don't believe Sadie would do well in a home where she is alone as she does let me know she does not like being left alone when she sees me going out the door.
If you think Sadie might be the golden for you contact your placement adviser and let them know your interest. If you are not approved to adopt there is a application on our web page you can fill out. Sadie is a prime age and has many of the qualities our families look for so don't wait as I think she will be adopted very quickly. Good Luck!!!!!
