Sadie 10-005

Profile

Let's give a Warm Ragom Welcome to the lovely Ms Sadie!

Sadie comes to the Ragom family due to changing circumstances and ill health in her surrendering family.  It broke their hearts to give her up but they knew she would be welcomed with loving, open arms.

One look at Sadie and you can see that while she may not be a purebred Golden Retriever, she does have a heart of gold!  Sadie is 4-1/2 years old, housetrained and has free-reign of the house (yesterday FM was gone 10 hours).  She loves her people, gets along with the cats, and has not been exposed to young children recently. For a small, petite dog she has a very large bark but she takes a treat so slowly and gently you have to smile.

She would make a great running partner and would be perfect at agility or fly-ball training!  More to come on Sadie.

At a Glance #10-005

It was love at first sight!!

Sadie has found her furever home!  Hugs all around for Mary Lou & Dick of St. Paul!  In December, with broken hearts they said goodbye to their beloved Bessie (who was a RAGOM rescue).  They weren't sure when they'd be ready for another golden/collie mix...until they saw Sadie!

Let's offer warmest wishes to our newest RAGOM family!

                       Border Collie Sadie

                       Golden Retriever Sadie

Sunday, January 24, 2010

Sadie had a tough start to her life but her luck changed when, as a young dog, she was rescued from the Humane Society and landed in a loving family. For 3-1/2 years she lived the good life - when circumstances in her family began to change, it was with tears that Sadie was surrendered to RAGOM.

What Sadie is looking for in her new family:

1.  People who want or need exercise!
If Sadie is golden/border collie or golden/husky, she is part work dog, and she is young!  Her new family will need to 'work' her with regular runs, walks, tennis balls, etc.  Sadie has her own personal backpack with rocks in it to give her more of a workout. Flyball would be perfect.

2.  Sadie needs to be an active family member.
FM calls her a "velcro/scotch tape" golden. If someone is up and walking around, she is velcro; if there's no action, she goes off by herself and sneaks a nap on FM's bed!  (If asked to get down, she does so immediately.)

3.  Sadie could be an only dog or part of a pack.

4. She is comfortable with one or many in her household; the more in her household, the more scratches and petting she gets!

Sadie, our dog with experience, has made herself at home!

She met my not-a-dog-family family over the weekend and they were all very impressed with her. Their question to me was: you'll keep this one, won’t you? Obviously, Sadie is not 100% golden; speculation is that her other half could be border collie, some sort of huskie, or ??? (My money’s on the collie-part.)

She respects baby gates, doesn't eat the cat food or the cat-box crunchies and she loves loves loves to be petted. Here is more of what I’ve learned about Sadie:

: )  she loves her people: young, old, sitting, standing, she loves us all!

: )  she can be trusted with everything in my home (possessions, shoes, carpets, cats) all day and all night; she is alone in the house from 6:30am to 4:00pm

: )  no toy budget needed, she's not big on toys

: )  she loves her walks and sits right down to wait patiently for the leash or gentle leader

: )  she is SMART: just for fun I tried teaching her hand signals for “stay” & “come” and she already knew them! I believe she could learn any trick you wanted to teach her

: )  she gets along great with the cats and would love to play with them - they can’t be bothered.

In the spirit of full disclosure:

: (  I believe Sadie may have been mis-treated in the past. SO was very proud to have adopted Sadie from the Humane Society, so her history from birth to age 18 months is unknown.

: (  she has selective hearing when she’s on a scent trail. While walking or at the dog park, if her nose is ‘on a mission’ she is completely distracted - a tug brings her back, but if she was off-leash and saw a squirrel in the distance, the chase would be on!

: (  she loves to go ‘with’ but she never completely relaxes in the car…she doesn’t pace, but she does pant.

Somehow Sadie landed in with all the cutie-patootie puppies...
and that sort of puts her at a disadvantage so we thought we should point out a few things...

                                   Sadie... A dog with experience

                                                         Puppies...
Sadie would NEVER confuse your home as a place to relieve herself...

Puppies will, they can't help it but couches do look like  fire hydrants...

Sadie would NEVER chew on cell phones, remote controls, shoes, wallpaper, etc... Puppies: chew, chew, chew - that's what they do!  It's nothing personal, but there go some treasured possessions!
Sadie LOVES her beauty sleep and we sleep until 8:00 am or later... Puppies are up 2 or 3 times per night...
Sadie already knows tricks: gentle, down, sit and even some hand signals... Puppies don't know any tricks yet other than how to train YOU...
With Sadie: INSTANT running partner... Puppies... hmmm, maybe this summer....
Sadie comes with a little baggage and needs some extra love and patience... Puppies... puppies got her on that one Frown
