Sadie 10-314

Profile

I have the distinct honor of introducing Sadie the Spectacular to all of you RAGOM fans!  Sadie is an absolutely stunning 7 year old PB golden retriever.  She is at an ideal weight of 75# and has a beautiful, deep red coat. She has just been to the vet, and is now UTD on all shots and preventatives is heartworm and fecal negative, has been microchipped, and is on meds (of course!) for a double ear infection.

Sadie was found as a stray, was eventually turned over to Animal Control, and to our great pleasure, has now been turned over to us to become a fully loved RAGOM girl! I can tell you right now, if FM wasn’t committed to being a foster, this girl would be staying in our home in a heartbeat!

We have had a truly fun first week with Sadie, and all I can say is that she LOVES life! She is a young, joyful 7 yr old, and is a terrific mixture of energy and playfulness, and sweet, gentle Velcro dog.  We’ve discovered that she LOVES car rides (she was thrilled when she scored treats at Starbucks, Walgreens, and the bank, all on one day), loves going for our 2 walks per day with the 2 resident goldens (she walks great on a flat leash), eats with gusto, and is always first in line for whatever treat might be coming her way!

She loves to hang out on our deck and in our back yard in the beautiful fall weather, rolling in the leaves and watching the ducks in the pond:

She loves tennis balls better than anything (she can hold two in her mouth at the same time, but FM can’t get that picture!), but also likes various chew bones and squeaky toys:

She loves hanging out with the resident dogs (who by the way have become quite good at this foster fur-sibling thing!), and attempting to look pathetic when FM has to work instead of play:

And when all the playing and walking and driving around are done, Sadie is more than happy taking a snooze on our deck, with of course a tennis ball or two within sight:

Sadie is completely house-trained, and has had zero accidents while here. She earned free roam by Day 2. She has slept quietly through the night since Day 1, either on the floor next to FM, or on the various dog beds scattered throughout the main floor, which is where the resident dogs like to sleep. She has met other dogs outside our house, and has done just fine.  While in Animal Control, she was also exposed to cats and completely ignored them.  She is crazy about my 15 yr old son and his friends, but hasn’t had the opportunity to meet any younger kids yet – we’ll do that before the next update.  She has excellent name recognition, and knows how to sit, shake, sit pretty, lie down and come. We are working on stay, and as she is a very smart girl, I’m sure she’ll pick it up soon!

Sadie will be spayed on Monday, October 18.  At the same time, the vet will be removing and biopsying two mammary masses that were found on exam.  Though she is more than ready and deserving of meeting her furever home, I am going to hold off on talking to and meeting with prospective families until we get her test results back, which will hopefully be by the end of next week.  Please check back next week for an update, keep this sweetheart in your thoughts, and in the meantime, paws crossed for GReat results!

Updates

Saturday, October 23, 2010

Hi, everyone, Miss Sadie here, and I am writing my very own update with FABULOUS news!  FM would’ve done it herself but she’s too busy crying because she’s so happy – I tell you, I don’t understand humans at all. ANYWAY –  the vet called FM and told her that my test results were completely negative!!!   I’m healthy, beyond happy, and good to go!! (Well, just so you know, my incisions still hurt a little bit, and I’m milking that for everything it’s worth with my patented “pathetic” look, but FM says it will get better each and every day!)

I really want to thank all of the wonderful families that have expressed interest in me – I can’t believe what a lucky girl I am. Though it makes her very sad to think about me leaving,  FM says it’s time to start looking for my very own furever home, so we’re now in the process of reviewing applications to find the perfect home, just for ME!

That’s all for now!  FM says I get to have a special treat, which means Belle and Bear get one too – we’re a happy bunch around here right now!  Check back for further updates!

Monday, October 18, 2010

I just wanted to get out a quick update on our special Sadie girl.  The vet just called, and thankfully her surgery went well, and she is resting comfortably.  They still expect that we will get her test results back in 3-5 days, maybe a week at the latest.

Please check back for an update in the very near future!  I won’t be making any decisions (yes or no) until I get her test results back, but will continue to review applications for her up until that time.  So – if you are interested in this incredible girl (and she truly is something special), please let your placement advisor know, as my intent is to move rather quickly to find her furever home, once the test results are in.

A few more things we’ve learned about Sadie girl so that you all know everything about her that we do, as I’m adament that her match be perfect!  She is very interested in people food, and quietly looks as if she might perish on the spot if she doesn’t receive a bite (which she doesn’t).  She doesn’t whine or demand or counter surf, but just to be safe, we keep food out of her reach. She also seems to have some skin allergies, which the vet is having us treat with over the counter meds - we’ll see if that does the trick! Her ear infections are clearing up nicely, and she is better at accepting her ear meds and her ear cleanings than any dog I’ve ever seen. Though we don’t prohibit it at all in our house, she has no interest at this point in being on the furniture or on the bed, but she sure does love the dog beds scatted around our house!  And she snores – just a little bit…..

Sadie thanks the special people that have expressed interest in her so far, and she can hardly wait to start her wonderful life in her new home. In the meantime, we wanted to share a couple more pictures we took over the wonderful, fall weekend. Waiting patiently for treats, Sadie is posing alone, and then with foster fur-siblings Belle and Bear (RAGOM boy Red 09-492). Keep our girl in your thoughts!
