Well, Sage has bounced back from his surgery like he never left the house. THe vet said to keep him quiet for a couple of days--fat chance! He was after Moe again as soon as he got in the house! I've kenneled him a bit just to keep him a little still, but he's in such great spirits, it's hard to contain him. He gave one whimper during the night, and Moe came downstairs to check the kennel and make sure he was okay. At night, when the rest of us traipse upstairs, Sage barks like crazy--he's just MAD that he is separated from Moe, but then he quickly settles down and doesn't usually make a peep. He doesn't mind being kenneled. This afternoon, the pack of four were racing around the yard, wearing themselves out, so I put him in his kennel for a while to rest and threw in a squeaky toy for amusement. Up wil now, Sage hadn't noticed them. This time he did, and it was adorable to watch him play with it! When he got out of the kennel, he was picking up every ball he could and collecting them by the dog bed. He is SUCH a pretty boy, and still such a puppy. His fur is still soft like baby fur, and his energy is definitely that of a pup. He will occasionally give these not so nice sounding growls when he is playing with Moe, and he does some rough play, but he hasn't shown any aggression at all. He let me take the toys from him, and he let me take his food dish away. He's a chow hound--when I shake the kibble in the dish, he is ready to go! And since he's a little skinny, I'm trying to feed him a bunch. He knows how to sit, he does answer to his name and comes when I call him (if Moe isn't too near), he might even know how to lay down. He knows what "no" means, he responds well when scolded (meaning he uses those big brown eyes to tell you he knows that he has been naughty!). He'll need a home with someone who will make sure he gets some badly needed obedience, someone who can teach him some manners and some boundaries, someone who is patient and who has a sense of humor. He'll also need a fence; he was a runner before he came into RAGOM, and I sense that is still there, wild thing that he is. He has been okay with my cat, although as he settles in a bit here, he has also given chase a few times. His abundance of energy would probably not make him a good match for smaller kids, as he would knock them over--at least until he learns to behave. But with someone who can give him the things listed above, I am quite sure that he'll be a gorgeous, fun-loving companion. He's a really sweet boy--even in this tornado stage he's in!
