First of all I have some BIG THANK YOU'S to take care of before there are any updates!
Lisa, Maddie and Sam 12-349 wished me a Merry Christmas and sent a donation for ME!
Rose H and someone named Anonymous donated too! How nice is that! I hope they all had a GREAT Christmas and a Very Happy New Year!
I had a very nice Christmas and foster mom was very proud of me how I handled all the people and craziness around here. I mingled around and I'm not scared of anyone here now. I just kind of stand around and check things out for awhile and then head back to that soft bed I have in the bedroom. Life is pretty good here and it sure beats life as a stray!
Some days my back legs work better than others. My vet Sarah said that when then temp goes up and down real fast that is harder on older guys hips. Thank goodness for those Rimadyl tabs...they help me move and rest better. I had a few days where I was a little cranky. I give a little humming growl if someone tries to bug me when I am hurting but haven't had to do that for a couple weeks now as we have this Rimadyl thing down.
As you can see from the picture I had a bath and am super soft and fluffy (the women around here went Gaga). I did not mind the outside baths from foster mom this summer but this grooming thing is for the birds!
I have to keep my weight down due to my hips and foster mom was a little concerned I was getting a little chunky so she cut back just a bit on the kibble and added some green beans and gosh, I don't mind those a bit! We are back walking when the weather is a little milder. I am so good on the leash and do like to go on walks. I trot along a little but really don't run and don't really play with my foster brother but I do like him! Oh, and that little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that foster sister has, I don't mind him anymore either. (OK, I do give him a warning growl when he gets too pesky but that's reasonable)
I am pretty set in my ways, probably won't be learning any new tricks but I am so quiet and for the most part a pretty easy guy to have around.
Hope you enjoy my new pictures.
Love, Sage
Here I am after my bath and grooming. I didn't like it one bit but
everyone is loving all the fluff and the new look.

Here are a couple of recent pictures of Sage hoping for some treats.
Sage is loving the routine here and is a very easy foster.
I am giving a mild pain med on days we will be traveling or on days I notice his hips seem a little more stiff.

Sage continues to enjoy life. He continues to be my gardening buddy and is loving his new bed from Costco. Foster brother Ole got a talking to when he tried to lay in it! It's fun to watch him become more social. He greets my daughter and family with excitement and a twisted half smile when they come for a visit. (We are trying to get a picture of this but it's no easy task.)
Glucosamine was started 3 weeks ago and I have noticed a definite improvement in his hips.
This is likely as good a life Sage has ever had and he is starting to believe that it's not going to go away.

Sage continues to do well, He just loves being outside and hanging out in the garden with me. Such a quiet boy who is super easy to have around.

His bed is in the bedroom and he will head back there for naps throughout the day. I think his vision is OK but does have some issues with hearing, however always seems to hear the crinkling sounds of the chip and cereal bags! He lets us know when he needs to go out and jumps and skips when we figure out what he wants.

We are going to be starting on Glucosamine as soon as I can get to the store to pick some up. The Duralactin he takes twice a day has really helped his hips and we added a mild pain med to be taken on days when we are more active or when it appears they are bothering him a little more.
His weight is up to almost 43 lbs which is great! We will continue with our current plan of 2 cups a day of kibble and moderate exercise. It will be important to keep him at a healthy weight for his hips and age.
Sage will be heading to the lake again this weekend so more updates next week!

Sage is doing just great. He loves going on walks and has not problem with a mile or more and even runs after the tennis ball a little. I can tell he is stronger and is gaining weight. His spine is filling in nicely and he loves his food.
He is a wonderful little traveler and is able to hop in the van with little effort.
He is enjoying people including my 6 & 8 year old granddaughters. He accepts pets and scratches from new people and had no issues with the 2 small additional dogs added to our household this past weekend. He has a couple of favorite hang out spots around the house and sleeps all night in our bedroom without a peep!
We are really enjoying this sweet boy and are so proud of him for the progress he has made in just a few short weeks.
This photo was from our time at the lake a few weeks ago. He is a DOLL!

Sage enjoyed a wonderful week at the lake. In addition to some swimming and time at the beach he loved his daily walks. He has settled in nicely to our routine and has made so much progress socially.
His vet appointment went well. His blood work was all in the normal range and he has started taking Duralactin for the discomfort in his hips which has really helped. We have noticed a big change in his ability to get in the van, doing steps and just general well being and feeling better. The vet estimates his age to be around 10 or 11 but he does not look that old as he has no graying.
He is a good little traveler and a quiet dog all around. He rarely barks, walks nice on the leash, is housetrained and has free roam with our resident Golden Ole when we are gone. His personality is starting to blossom which is so fun to see.
Slow introductions to new people and dogs are key for Sage. What seems to work best is to ignore him and wait for him to come up and check them out. The first week we had a few growls with new situations that quickly resolved. I think this may have to do to the fact that he doesn’t hear or see 100% and it’s a way to let people know “I’m here”. We were very cautious with our 8 and 5 year old granddaughters and now he appears to like them and not bothered by them at all. I would not recommend toddlers or crawling babies around Sage or kids who are not used to kids. We do not know his history.
Sage is a sweet little guy whose forever home would be a quieter place for the most part with daily walks, a soft bed and good food twice a day!
