Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Sally and I arrived in Minnesota yesterday - along with my sister, Zoey. We came from Iowa. Zoey's foster mom gave us a lift north and while I slept, Zoey chewed on my ears and tail, trying to get me to play! I was saving my energy for my new foster family!

I spent yesterday with foster mom - visiting the pet food store for some great food and then heading to the vet to get the once over! Like my sister, I have a little heart murmur that the vet would like to check out again next week. We just want my forever family to have all the facts before I go home to their place.

After all the attention at the vet and the pet store, we headed home to meet my foster siblings - furry and human! My human sisters have the most wonderful hair to style! I love to lick it and push it around with my paws and create stylish doos for them! My fuzzy siblings (2 dogs and 2 cats) have been very welcoming to me. I especially like the dogs. They like to play gentle with me and we have a lot of fun! The cat's like to sit up high and watch me...like royalty or something...whatever.

I am not quite sure about pottying outside all the time, but I think I might get the hang of it pretty quickly. I really like going out with Molly and Wilbur (the resident fuzzy siblings) to play in the melting snow.

When I'm not playing with the humans and fuzzy kids, I like to sleep, chew on toys (I'm learning that furniture is off limits), sleep, cuddle with my humans, sleep, etc. Foster mom says I'm more cute than all the puppies in the television commercials. I'm sure she is right.

It's naptime again. Foster mom needs her feet warmed up and I feel it is the least I can do. Have a great day!

Dear RAGOM,

It is with a joyful heart that I let you know I have found my forever family!  Daddy came to pick me up today and I was thrilled with the treats he brought for me to snack on the long trip home J  I was also overjoyed to meet my new sister, Izzy!  She is just like me!  Full of play!  Dad took a picture of me taking Izzy to the floor!  Hee hee!!

I am so grateful for the life I have been blessed with.  I give hugs to humans just to let them know how much I love living life to the fullest.  Again, to Bob and Carole, thank you for the best start a gal could have.  Though I never met you, I know I would want to give you 2 hugs with all 4 paws!

I am off to a great start with my new family.  They have kids who know how to love dogs…and cats…and other critters J  Obviously, Mom and Dad love critters too or the kids wouldn’t be so loving!

Thank you RAGOM for being just what I needed!  I had the best foster family in the world who treated me like a princess and I know people care all around me.  What more could a girl want?

Happy Easter everyone!

Some new photos for Sally

Sunday, March 1, 2009

Hi RAGOM,

Sally has decided to let me, foster Mom, send out a little information about her visit to the vet this week.  The big words the vet used just made her a little skitterish!

Like her sister Zoey, Sally was born with a hole in her heart (ventricular septal defect) that may or may not repair itself and subaortic stenosis. “The big vessel that moves the blood from her heart to her lungs has a fibrous ring around it. That makes it difficult for her heart to pump. Pressure builds up behind the fibrous ring and that part of her heart develops a thick wall over time--making it harder to pump. As time goes on, she will develop Congestive Heart Failure which can be controlled for a time with medications. But eventually, she will succumb to heart disease. Her life expectancy is about 2-3 years.” (taken from Zoey’s description because it was so similar for Sally).

The veterinarian gave us a little hope for a longer life by telling us that there is a chance the girls (Sally and Zoey) could grow well through the stenosis and live many years.  They recommend a visit back for another echocardiogram in 6 months and then (likely) another follow-up 6 months later, to get a more accurate picture of how the heart is working on a dog that is nearly full grown.  That would be an action I would highly recommend for Sally’s and Zoey’s forever family.

Sally is LOVING life!  She shows little sign of being overly tired or winded.  She plays hard with our resident dogs and naps mostly when they do…not too much out of their normal routine.  To look at her routine, I would not think she was different than any other pup we have had in our home.  She is delightful!

Potty training is going fairly well.  She is not consistently demonstrating that she knows what we are expecting, but she does keep her kennel clean at night…all night…yes!

We were overjoyed to hear that Bob and Carol have decided to sponsor Sally and her sis.  They are the two best pups in the whole wide world, you know!  Thank you Bob and Carol!  Sally asked me to include a picture of her (just for you 2) at the computer this evening…she wanted you to know that she is studying hard at being the best golden in the world…she wants to remain worthy of your gift!  We believe she IS a fantastic little girl.  She is loving, playful, snuggly, playful, silly, playful…a great puppy!

I am hoping there is a loving family looking at the photos of this beautiful girl, imagining what life could be like with this little bundle of love.  There are no guarantees with this girl – any more than there are with any of us.  I can tell you that she gives great puppy hugs and kisses; she loves to fall asleep stretched out beside a human on the couch; she is passionate about tennis balls (a true golden retriever!); and is happy to see her people at any time, and in any place; she still has her baby teeth to lose; she still has that warm and soft baby tummy that is so fun to rub; she even still has puppy breath!!

There is the potential that her life will be short which can cause great heartache in us – the humans who care so deeply.  Her gift to you will be that she will have loved you and cared for you to the best of her ability.  She will have left you will happy memories of a playful and loving and faithful friend…is there any gift better that this?  Sally would love to meet you – she thinks it will be love at first sight!

Let us know if we can introduce you to your next faithful companion, Miss Sally Dog (sister of Zoey the Wonder Dog!)

Have a wonderful day,

Sally’s foster mom

As promised RAGOM, here are some wonderful photos of lovely me! I hope you enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed having my picture taken!

You can see me in the suitcase - ready to go on a trip with my human sister! In the end, she forgot to bring me along:( But I was comfortable while she was packing!

I am also seen enjoying playing with Molly (black golden from RAGOM) and Wilbur (white schnoodle). We love to play in the snow together! I especially like running with my nose to the snow - it tickles and is cool on my snout! Look at the picture of me running - aren't I fast!?! You also can see me sitting by my favorite bush. Sometimes I like to do a little pruning of the bush so foster mom will have less work in the spring. She says she is taking advantage of me now while I am teething! Whatever that means!

I get to go get a picture of my heart on Thursday! Yea! My sister, Zoey (the best sister in the world), got to go in last Thursday for her "picture of her heart." I am excited to find out all about me so there won't be as many surprises for my forever family. I just can't wait to meet my forever family!

Have a great Sunday everyone! Enjoy the new photos and keep your nose to the snow! Really! It's fun!

Fondly,

Sally
