Sam 12-052

Profile

Meet Sam. He was delivered right to our door on Saturday morning. Thanks Sara and Matt! He is one beautiful guy. I believe he is called an English Creme. According to young girls of today, Sam is probably the Justin Bieber and to old girls like me, the Robert Redford of the dog world.

Sam just turned one, knows his name and basic commands. My Grand-daughter and I took him for a walk and he did great with the gentle leader. We also have a pup and they have been play, play, playing; eaten out of the same food and water bowls and played fetch with absolutely no issues. Sam LOVES his food and takes treats politely.

Sam did jump on the couch and bed and he hasn't counter-surfed as yet, but not sure I would trust him. He does need to have his manners tweaked a bit, but he still is just a kid. He loves children and do not know about cats at this point.

I think Sam would love an active family and it would be good if he wasn't left long periods of the day because being young, he has lots of energy.

Sam was surrendered because his family couldn't devote more time to him, but he has obviously been well-cared for.

We have a vet appointment and as Sam settles in, we will keep you updated on this handsome fellow.

Hi Guys, Sammy here. FM said I could be a part of this update. The rain has finally gone away and boy, are we having fun. I've been going on lots of rides and some great walks. I walked to the Post Office with FM the other day and she tied me to a bench, but I sure did fool her. Yep, I untied the knot, but I waited for her cause she said it would have really scared her if I ran away. I really like my family and especially my foster bro Jack, we sure can play and wrestle (he doesn't think so, but I usually win). Oops, gotta go---I hear someone in that yummy kitchen!

Sam does love his walks and he really doesn't like the gentle leader and with that short, square nose he can rub it right off. So---we use a harness and he walks quite nicely until something smells really, really good, but just give a tug and he moves right along. He is interested in birds and squirrels but doesn't try to chase and so we just keep movin'.

Sun, green grass, tummy full; can life get any better?

Sam loves to be with people and when we were sweeping out the garage, surprise! here comes Sammy wanting to hang with us squishing himself right out of that fence. I told him he should have been named Harry after Houdini.

He didn't seem to know alot about playing with toys and balls, but following Jacksons lead, has learned to enjoy a good chew toy and fetching that ball. Hurray, he doesn't even de-stuff every toy in sight!

I had to get up here, I think there is something scary under that bed!!

I believe Sam could make a wonderful family member with just about any family (other dogs, young families or retirees like my husband and myself). He just likes to stay close, but has not once chewed on anything inappropriate, doesn't carry socks and shoes around like all our goldens have done, totally housetrained, sleeps quietly all night in our room. He has learned to wait for his food, leave it and doing pretty well with stay. Still working on the digging thing and he did have some yummy dried beef off the counter (FD forgot to be careful).

Boy, FM has been on that computer a long time, but I'll wait here, she's my best bud.

Sam will make someone a very faithful, loving companion and he has just enough moxy to keep things interesting.

Handsome, sweetheart of a Sam marched into our house and directly into our hearts!

After a few days, Sam feels at home and makes himself quite at home. Our pets don't get on the furniture unless invited, but Sam hasn't met a couch, chair or bed that isn't his favorite spot. Since this is not a big issue, Sam can adjust to his forever homes rules.

Sam does love to dig, so besides putting some spray out and keeping a no-no watch, we are a work in progress. Sam has not chewed on one inappropriate thing or had any potty accidents. He has had complete free roam of the house since day one. When we return home, he is always at the door to give you a very happy greeting and when really excited will try to jump up. We are working on that and also on "leave it" and "stay."

               I hope that's dinner they're bringing.

Sam was microchipped on his vet visit and weighed 67lb. which vet said he could stand to gain 5 to 8 pounds and that makes him happy as his favorite position is "head in food bowl." I will say I have had dogs all my life and Sam is the messiest eater I have known.

                Sam's favorite pastime

The vet also noticed his canine teeth have been worn down from chewing on wood and wire. He attributes that to being caged in too small of an area for his size. That brings us to Sams main issue. For Sam to be happy and his adoptive family to be happy, he needs to be with a family that won't kennel him and a family in which someone is home most of the day. I think he is somewhat claustrophobic as he became upset when I put him and resident Jack in the laundry room to dry after a rain.

We were told Sam lived with cats previously and had no issues, he seems to love people of every age and I believe he could be happy with other dogs or as an only. We have a fence, but also use a tie-out and both have worked fine. With some attention, guidance and love, Sam will be a wonderful addition to any family.

Woo Hoo! Is that FD coming home?

Happy, mellow, good natured Sam is an absolute love, a golden gem! Whoever Sam adopts is going to be one very lucky family.
