Everyone please join me in welcoming Sam (previously Ralphie) back to RAGOM!  This guy is even more gorgeous than his pics!  7 year old Golden Retriever/Great Pyrennes mix.  At 83 lbs and not overweight... think the Pyrennes genes might be winning!  Sam's earlier training still shows, he's got all the basic good manners.  But considering Friday's weather, my fav is how nicely he holds up his paws to be wiped dry after coming inside!

Sam loves rawhides but hasn't yet shown any interest in toys or even tennis balls.  Must be his Great Pyrennes side showing, guess they're generally more serious dogs than Goldens.  Don't know whether he'll ever be into playtime but he'll still make you laugh.  I was sitting in a chair watching TV last night & Sam decided to play lap dog & climbed onto my lap~ Yikes but that was a tight fit!  Wished there was someone here to get a pic, must've been quite a sight

Sam's had his own loving family for 5 years but they sadly returned him after he air-snapped at their grandchild so a family without young children is needed.  He's been fine with my resident dog and cats.

The best thing is that Sam already has a meeting set with a potential furever home!!  Please keep all paws crossed for a happy match for this great dog!

Updates

Thursday, March 5, 2009

As usual my Sam update is long overdue (heavy sigh).  Maybe subconsciously I'm trying to keep this great dog a secret?  Looks like he forgot to mention a couple of things when it was his turn to blog

  • Sam doesn't counter surf and is not destructive.  He doesn't pick up, or chew on, anything he's not supposed to (good boy!).  So even though he won't leave stuff laying around... you still can!
  • Looks into your eyes and does that head-tilt thing when you're talking to him (waaay too cute!)

Sam really is a wonderful companion who wants nothing more than to be with you.  Well, maybe a little more... walks are even better than dinner!  If history does repeat itself, summer will eventually return ;]  So if you need extra motivation to get in shape... Sam's your man!  With a Gentle Leader on he'll happily help you walk off those pesky pounds.  And if you're looking for a total body workout... skip the Gentle Leader & just go with the flat collar!   But for reading or watching TV Sam's content to hang out where he can keep an eye on you and make sure you don't get away!

Sam is such a sweet dog I can't figure out why his forever family hasn't claimed him yet.  Part of me wants to adopt him, but then I couldn't keep fostering.  And - hate to even think it, but... there's probably somebody out there who can provide an even better home for him.  I think he'd like more outdoors time than he's been getting lately (is it just me getting old & crotchety or has this been a particularly brutal winter?) and a fenced yard would be a lot more fun than a deck or tie-out.  Sam sure can wriggle & roll an impressive 'snow doggie'  and would no doubt appreciate more space to practice his art ;)

placementatragom [dot] org (Placement) is waiting to hear from you if you want more info or to arrange a meeting with this great dog!

Yikes, didn't realize how long it's been since Sam's last update!  My, how time flies when you're frozen solid :o  This is his kind of weather, too bad it's not my idea of nice out there.  Since we don't have a fenced yard, don't know what we'd do without doggie daycare!!  Thank you Woof Dah for returning tired dogs in exchange for the crazy canines I drop off!

Have you ever wished you could talk with your dog, even if only for a couple of hours?  I'd love to know what makes Sam tick, he's got a couple of idiosyncrasies that make it tough to list the perfect home for him.  While he's a wonderful dog, Sam does sometimes snap at people for no apparent reason.  I doubt he'd ever bite but it's a little scary anyway.  Sam's never snapped at me or my family but has air-snapped at people we pass out on walks who reach out to give him a pat, even neighbors he's been introduced to.  He also gets anxious over bikes, both 'manual' & motorcycles, skateboards, mailmen & UPS trucks.  So far it's just been a bark and a little pacing but since it's winter... haven't had many opportunities to know for sure.
As for cats, guess that depends on the individual cat.  Sam gets along fine with Charlie.    Loves to chase & snap at Felicity so she likes to spend time out of reach.
But is a bit afraid of my sister's cats.  So... who knows.     I know the perfect home is out there, they just haven't realized it yet ~ or maybe I just haven't sent enough updates :[  Sam is a quiet, laid-back, cuddly dog who just needs stability, regular exercise, and maybe a bit of training to handle certain situations.  If you're not an experienced dog-family maybe you could apply to Animal Planet's "It's Me or the Dog" ~ Victoria Stilwell's civilized dogs with waaaay bigger quirks than Sam's!      Life is good!

Hi Everybody! It's me ~ Sam. Got tired of waiting for FM to update my blog so decided to take matters into my own paws! Life's going good, I lovelovelove this weather! Nothin' like some cold air & fresh snow to make a guy feel like a puppy again. Mini, the resident dog, and I even had a rousing game of fetch with FM yesterday! Of course it kinda turned into tag / keep-away when the human wanted the ball (hehehe). Watchin' her hop around trying to get the ball back just made it more fun!

The coolest thing though is I went to doggie daycare with Mini. It was her birthday so Woof Dah had a party for her & I got to go, too! I'm the big handsome fella next to the birthday girl. Does it look like she's flirtin' with me? Wow, but we had fun ~ room to run plus lots of fur-butts to sniff & play with!

Even though I'm havin' a good time here, am startin' to wonder where my furever family is. Sure hope they find me soon, my very own people would be the best present EVER! Promise to keep ya warm - physically AND mentally - during the long winter nights to come :) I'll be at the Petco event in Burnsville on Saturday if you think I might be the dog you've been looking for!

ATTENTION SINGLES!  Dreading winter and the prospect of crawling into a cold bed for the next 6 months?  Challenged by trying to sleep without moving so not to sprawl onto sheets you haven't warmed up yet?  Have we got a deal for you!!  Sam will happily curl up next to you and make sure your toes are never cold again!  He's very considerate and waits until you're tucked in before jumping up to find his space for the night.  Not only does he make sure the sheets are toasty but you can snuggle your feet under him for almost instant comfort!!  Sam also has guard dog traits you won't find in a PB Golden.  He rarely barks but when he does... everyone knows he's serious ~ so no more wondering if you really heard that strange noise in the night ;)
If you're looking for a big, fluffy, guy with the softest fur to sink your hands into, Sam would love to meet you.  Please contact Placement for the best gift you can give yourself this holiday season!

First off we want to thank everyone who came to Petsmart last Saturday and were so generous with the pats & scritches!  We had to leave a bit early since it was exciting to the point of overwhelming for the big guy.  Hope we didn't miss anyone who wanted to meet Sam.

Life's kinda boring around here ~ eat, sleep, go for a walk, sleep, squeak a toy or two, sleep, chase a kitty, sleep, eat, sleep...  Sam's not complaining but it makes it hard to write these updates!  He loveslovesloves walks!  When it's time to get leashed-up he gets so excited he jumps for joy at the door, reminds me of the cartoon dog that goes into ecstasies leaping & twirling over cookies!!  Too bad I can't remember the character's name, probably make for a better visual

Sam sure would appreciate a family of his own for the holidays.  We'll be around all week so if you need a gorgeous guy to clean up any spills from the kitchen floor... just give Placement a call & we'll set something up!

Yum Yum!
