Our new foster girl, Sammi, around 7 years old, came to us yesterday, July 12, 2008. She had a long ride from MN to SD and did very well on her ride down to us. The wonderful Connie and Joyce made the long drive to get her here! Thank you ladies and transport for getting this together so quickly for Sammi girl! You guys are just the best!
Sammi, gosh was a little love. She is such a good girl. Sammi is a darker red/gold retriever. She is smaller, I would guess perhaps around 55# or so. Sammi needs a groom….very scraggly hair and needs a bath and a trim, especially those long toe nails! She is all set up for that tomorrow (Monday). She also has her first vet check scheduled Tuesday. It is my understanding this girl has not seen a vet in at least 4 years!
What a wonderful personality I see already in her. She came to us with 4 other pack dogs and 3 cats. Everyone does just fine. She drank finally and then she ate. She was a little stressed of course from her first transfer from her prior home. When she had been here just a short time, she gently took a treat, let all the other dogs check her out, and also, enjoyed our 4 year old grandson whom we had here this weekend too. Thus far, other dogs, cat and kids are just fine.
I can tell she would counter surf if there would be something there that would trip her fancy! She really eyes the hot dogs on the counter prior to grilling! She did not beg for food nor sit right next to us when we were eating however. Very good manners. Naturally Sammi is a little ‘lost’ but she enjoys being by me, be around people and content watching what is going on. She does already let me know if she needs to go outside potty-just goes over to the door wagging her tail.
She had a nice quiet and calm night. I made her up a nice bed, kept water by her and she rested very comfortably. Sammi gets in and out the truck fine, up and down the stairs here fine. At the current time, I am not sure if she has any health issues or not until we get the once over from the doc next week and then we will know much more. She eats her food fine right along the other residents and no guarding at all. She is playful and will play with toys. Of course I have not had much time to do a lot with Sammi yet.
This is one sweet little girl for sure! And so well rounded! We already really enjoy having her and once we get a nice groom, trip and vet, she will be in top shape I think! A very kind, gentle loving golden personality and did I say pretty too? Yep, quite a looker!!!
