Sammie, what can I say the photos don’t?  Sammie came to us about a week ago. She came from north central Minnesota and a long drive. This lovely golden is pure delight to foster!  She came from an owner who had only had her a couple years and not sure about the information much prior to that.  The last owner had to downsize from a farm to an apartment with two other small dogs.  Unfortunately they were kept in the basement and not walked or loved up for quite a while.  A point to make is they did make a very good choice in surrendering Miss Sammie to Ragom.  We are very happy for that.  With economic times, we are seeing more of these types of surrenders and situations.

First, let me give you her physical facts as I know them:

  • She was born in July, 2002 and is 6 years old
  • Sammie is golden in color; her previous owners had shaved her down this summer and her fur is coming back in nicely, so you will not see a lot of ‘feathers’ right now.
  • Sammie weighs 55#, spayed
  • Is good with cats
  • Is good with other dogs
  • Walks great on a leash
  • She loves to play ball and fetch
  • She loves to ride in the car
  • A real “snuggler” and would LOVE to sleep with you if you let her
  • Compact nice sized golden
  • She loves to carry ‘babies’ or ‘stuffed’ toys around
  • Sammie has allergy to pork
  • She is fully vetted and microchipped
  • She does have arthritis in both her hips (probably for years) which will need to be taken into consideration for the future….possible FAO or hip surgery however, a good diet, exercise (right amount),  glucosamine and chondroitin added, etc. will really help her of course.  A very common feature of goldens

In reviewing prior notes on this wonderful girl from a few years back, it was noted she had seizures and was on Phenobarbital for those.  After being on meds for some time and reviewing her diet, it was noted by a vet that she perhaps had allergy to pork.  In changing her diet/treats she has been seizure free for quite some time.  In fostering her, we have not seen any seizures.  When we vetted her with our Ragom doc, Sammie did test positive for Lyme’s and is on an antibiotic for that currently.  Once treatment with antibiotics is done, she should be just fine.  It was “light positive” condition.  This may also attribute in part to the arthritis as well.

Now, for Miss Sammie and her “self” and personality:  Absolutely wonderful.  Again, in taking into account her past, place to place, and now in foster far away from where she came, just incredible.  This is a very gentle, loving, kind, beautiful little golden girl.  Amazing how she has adapted to our home and crew in foster care.  We are two adults, grandchildren in and out, 3 other resident dogs and 3 resident cats.  She is great with ALL of them.  Miss Sammie  is allowed to roam free in the home while we are at work.  The longest the pets are left is 5 hours.  Everyone is fine.  Sammie is a very bright, ready-to-learn open golden book too.  She learns commands quickly and remembers them.

If you are interested in a lovely, smaller, golden girl, who wants to be by you, go for walks, go for rides in the car, listen to you talk to her and just discuss anything, one would really wants to sleep by you and yes, WITH you is the preferred method, and so wants to be a companion and be pet, well they don’t get much better than Sammie.  She will lean to you for comfort and pets/rubs, she will retrieve most anything in a ‘gentle’ fashion, come back to you with the tail waggin’ waiting for more.  If not, a lay-by-your-feet or next to you is just fine.  A very social kind golden girl, wonderful.  This is a true lover of a companion, one who brings such joy to anyone she meets!  I do need to mention, kisses on the nose are most accepted!  We totally love having this great girl in our home…..definitely our gain.  If you are interested in more about this lovely girl, contact placementatragom [dot] org

Sammie had a BIG day today!  She was ADOPTED to the H family!  Miss Sammie will be in the care of a wonderful, kind family with some great kids.  She will have a huge house and yard to be in and a nice quiet small town to be her forever home.  There will be 6 family members to love and take great care of her.  She will get to go to a lake home in the summer, have an active neighborhood, park and walks to enjoy all year long and perhaps go to work with her new dad!  She has a new family who understands all of her physical and emotional  doggie needs………all ready to give her the support, love and attention she will ever need.  Sammie is going to a wonderful adoptive home today!  We will miss her a lot; just one of the best fosters you can have.  Ahh, to love a golden!  Only the best!  We love what we do…….

A happy Sammie with her happy forever family!

Sammie is one of the best fosters ever. Our girl went with us on a home visit yesterday and just wonderful! She rode very well (about 30 miles away or so); met many different people and children, rode in a different car, came back, and just had a wonderful time. Awesome golden girl, could not ask for more. Sammie looks forward to her walks everyday and is fine with or without another dog. We do go anywhere from 1-2 miles a day, and she is staying fit and not in any pain from arthritic hips. I think the antibiotics for the lyme’s, good diet and added glucosamine and chondroitin tabs and some deramaxx tabs are helping. I think we can probably be off the pain meds and use only on the ‘tough days’ if and when they occur. Sammie is not interested in people food (unless you have a piece of steak or chicken); she takes her treats gently; and eats her supper(s) well every time. I put her pills right in the food and all gone. I have heard her bark just a couple times, and they were when she was real anxious to go outside and play fetch and really wanted to go for her walk. A short ‘bark’ and that is it. Now, she sleeps great all night on her doggie pillow by my side of the bed, about 1 foot away then………..once the other human (hubby) is up for work, she knows, and yes, in with me she comes! Great bed partner! She so wants to lay by you and snuggle…….and then she does not move, ever so happy to be there! I love it. Sammie continues to love to play fetch, she listens so well, and I have made her a comfortable spot behind a large lazy-boy with a big blanket and her soft toys and she likes that. Sometimes with all four dogs and 3 cats, the floors get busy! So she likes it back there, behind us, and relaxes.

She has various stuffed animals and just ‘carries’ them around, Sammie is not a chewer….just enjoys carrying her ‘babies/critters” around…….so cute to watch. She has an incredible ‘soft’ mouth. Sometimes in making that big ‘decision’ where to lay down, she will ‘circle’ a few times and then down she goes….that is always fun to watch in some dogs…..round and round and round…..what’s the big deal? Funny. Sammie is very respectful of other dogs. One of our resident dogs (corgi) is an ol’ grump, and she knows now just to give him space…..all is just great. When we are on our walk and we go by a ‘spas-o’ dog, we just keep going and she does not care. This is one great girl, a loving girl and a total beauty! Each day she is more and more wonderful.

Sammie continues to thrive. She loves her ball, being outside and is doing wonderful! Sammie has another vet check coming up to see how all the meds are doing. This is just such a lovely/warm/wonderful/gentle/fun girl! She so enjoys going for walks, and I see no problems with her at all. She does wonderful on a leash and walks well with any of the other dogs.

Sammie has such a great personality and is so easy going yet acts like a baby. Run, play, fetch, go in the car for a ride, and just be where you are. She does not beg for food nor bothers any one else. Just loves any and all attention she can get, carry her furry babies around, and just a happy camper! What a delight.

She has actually barked a couple times when the very young neighbor kids were out yelling and then quit (wish mine did!). Sammie does listen very well to commands. She is learning more every day and is a very happen golden girl. That face, gosh, such a doll…….a very well behaved lady.

Wow, what a great girl!!!!!!!

Just love to take pictures of her..........so pretty!
