I would like to introduce Goose to the RAGOM family.  She is a mild mannered and lovely young lady. I know--a female named Goose?  Trust me, we are trying on lots of names to see what she likes.  If nothing else, Lucy. I just cannot do Goose for a lovely lady like her.

Goose is completely up to date on shots and has an appointment to get her spay done on Tuesday morning and she will then come home Wednesday afternoon.

Goose and this foster family would like to thank Julie for helping us out and picking Goose up on Thursday and holding her for us.  We really appreciate that.  See, we already had two foster dogs and three of our own, so I thought that might get to be a little much for Goose to come into.

Goose was picked up at 11:30 and by 1:00 she is completely settled in and has made friends with the three resident dogs.  She now lives with Sophee, our RAGOM rescue, Coal and Mistee Bubbles our Newfoundlands.  Sophee of course loves Goose and has attached herself to her side to show her the ropes of the good life.  Obviously Goose was loved because she knows what toys are, she has papers and she is a great dog.  So far we have had no potty issues either--what better life is there?

It looks like Goose may have had some kind of surgery on her left shoulder since there is a pretty big scar, but this does not seem to bother her.  She also seemed to have hurt her left paw somehow so we will get that checked out on Tuesday as well.

We went for a short walk this afternoon and she did very well on a leash--a little scared of all the new noises and experiences but just looked to us for guidance and reassurance.  She did remarkably well.

So are you looking for a nice, young female Golden that has outgrown the puppy stuff but is still right there at your side to do whatever you want to do?  If so, I have your girl, Goose!  Please contact placementatragom [dot] org so we can meet!

This story actually started last year, when I did a home visit for Snow - I asked the home visit lady if she really knew what she was doing.  She said, "No, but I really like Snow's story, so I have to give him a chance."  I tried tell her all the bad and she still wanted to try.  A week later Snow was in her home.

This past spring, Karen (Snow's owner) started the volunteer process for RAGOM.  She eventually became a transport coordinator without ever transporting a dog!  So we had to change that.  Karen and I became friends.  She did her first dog transport even though she had already been coordinating them for a month or so.  We went to pick up another RAGOM dog, Cheeto.  Karen fell in love the moment we picked him up.  I told her that she was not going to be able to adopt him, because she needed a home visit.  So we talked about getting an updated (more recent) home visit for her, just in case she fell in love with another dog.

A month ago, I had a blind foster (Hank) and found out Goose/Sammie (as a former foster) was going to come back into RAGOM.  I needed to take Goose/Sammie but knew I would be pushing it - I was working long hours and Rick was trying to get home from lunch every day.  That is when Karen came to the rescue and said she would like to try to foster Goose/Sammie for me!

We made the necessary arrangements.  Everything was working out well with Snow and Sammie.  So we went on a few home visits looking for that perfect family for Goose/Sammie.  I started to worry right away that maybe Goose/Sammie was already in the perfect home...

This past week, Karen called and said she needed to talk to me.  Yep, it happened:  Snowie and Karen were in love with Goose/Sammie!!!  She wanted our blessing to adopt Goose/Sammie.  Of course, we were happy that it happened and I am even happier for Snow and Sammie (the goldens) as well as for Sadie and Snickers (the cats)!

Thanks, Karen, for being a wonderful family for these RAGOM dogs!

Goose/Sammy foster moms just had to tell you about her progress.  As you may or may not know Karen is now her primary foster and I am just helping out with "stuff".  Sammy made yet another move and honestly she is doing beautifully.  She has grown this past week so much.

Sammy went to her first home visit a week ago and did great - she really liked the guy of the house, Mitchell.  Karen and I were just amazed since she has always gravitated towards females when out of her element.  So we went on her second Home visit yesterday and this time she fell for Mike.  Mike was the man of the house and yep he was all about the pets and love too.  Oh but this visit was even funnier, they had a cat and Mike got Sam to go outside in the yard to play with the ball and yes try to catch a few birds - well the cat was sitting at the door when Sam wanted to come in.  You would think Sam was going to die, she started talking and carrying on because she could not get back in the house - the cat was guarding the door!

We finally got her to come in but she was so scared of the cat.  Remember Karen has cats and Sam is doing better about knowing that they will not hurt her, so in time I think she will understand that cats are good and not evil.  Sammy is still waiting for that perfect house, so if you are interested please let placement know and we can set something up.

Goose/Sammy is doing well at her new foster.  Goose/Sammy is being co-fostered.  While Sammy is good with kids, she would prefer to hang out with her foster mom.  She enjoys fetching tennis balls, but only for short period of time. I would recommend if she lived with children they are at least 10 years old.  She is a perfect house guest and gets along well with the resident dog Snowball (07-672).  She is submissive towards the cats and tries to ignore them.  She seems to enjoy riding in the car. She is learning to walk on a leash, she doesn't pull, she is just all over. She has had full run of the house since she arrived, no accidents, no inappropriate chewing, no counter surfing. She sleeps on a dog bed next to the bed. She follows me wherever I go and always wants to be near.  She does well with reassurance.  She can be timid and shy in new situations, but will warm up once she feel comfortable. She would probably do best in a quieter household, since she gets very nervous around fast and loud noises.

Sammy is still looking for that special family - could you be it?

Goose has made it back to Apple Valley as a temporary holding ground.  Goose is at least 20 pounds, maybe 30 pounds overweight!  I am not sure what happened, but the adopters said she was too needy.  Yep, she is your typical golden and ALWAY under feet.  However, she is now wandering around the house, checking out the sights and wondering what all these dogs are doing here!  Goose came back to her original foster home that has 3 resident dogs - 1 foster and now her until we can find her forever foster!

Goose is still a great girl, very overweight, so she will be starting to walk tonight, walked well on the leash so far.  Loud noises do upset her, she gets scared and comes running to whoever is closest to her for reassurance.  She is fully potty trained, not sure about crate trained, but we will figure that out if we need to.  Oh and LOVES tennis balls...

It's Goose!

Hi Everyone:

As you can see from Goose's pictures she is feeling pretty sad today. She was hoping she met her forever family yesterday but it looks like they are going to pass on her and keep looking, Goose or I have not heard from them. I told Goose it's okay; she will find her forever family soon because she is so darn sweet.

Goose had a great time at Pet Smart and of course she was VERY nervous but she met all of her fans with a smile and a small wag. So if you were waiting for the perfect opportunity to meet Goose, now is the time. She is here and available to work her magic on you.

If you have any questions about Goose, please feel free to contact placement and we will get a hold of you!

We picked Goose up last night at 7:30. She just was not doing well at the vet’s office, so the Dr. V. said come and get her. We slept on the floor with Goose last night because she did nothing but cry. I mean the crying did not stop from the second we got into the house until this morning. To say the least, it was a rough night. Today she is MUCH better and even eating. Granted, she is eating her food with cottage cheese, but she is eating and the crying has pretty much stopped.

The vet found a good sized hot spot on her left front paw so now we are treating that for two weeks. She is in pretty good shape all things considered. I just PRAY that we get to sleep tonight. Last night we had a baby gate in our bedroom door and that could have been some of her stress, so we are not going to do that tonight.

I hope Goose will be herself at PetSmart, but I am guessing she will be pretty reserved. Hum, I wonder if she can get any more reserved. She is scared of things in your hand and will drop to the ground and cower. So dinner time is interesting and feeding her can be a challenge. We finally figured out we just put the bowl down in the middle of the kitchen floor and walk away--she will than come and eat.

Goose is going to be meeting a family at PetSmart, so please keep your paws crossed for her. But remember if they decide she is not the dog of their dreams, maybe she is the dog of your dreams. She is a pretty sweet girl. So please come and visit us. As you can see, Goose and Sophee Bear have become fast friends again and Sophee makes sure that Goose is feeling okay. It's actually very sweet. Sophee gives Goose kisses all the time.

All in all, Goose is a happy go lucky girl once again and says thank you for thinking of her during her surgery!

Hi everyone--just wanted to let you know that Goose is doing great. She really enjoys hanging around the house all day just doing nothing. Night time she will get a little worried every once in a while that no one is there, so she will get up and cry. We just tell her it is okay, pat her head and tell her “down”. It may take her a few minutes to settle, but it is not horrible. She is just worried we are not there.

Still her name eludes us. We have some good friends come over and we were going with Bessie, Molly, a lot of names I cannot mention and then Sunny. Everyone thought Sunny was a great name. I still like Gretta. So I am back to calling her Goose! Goose just loves to lie on the couch and put her head in your lap for a nice long sleep. So if the dog is not allowed on the couch, be prepared to sit on the floor with her because she will need that!

Goose will be getting spayed tomorrow morning. This just breaks my heart that she will be in a kennel again. I know she won’t like it at all. But I will pick her up either tomorrow night or Wednesday morning and I will give you all an update. Please cross your paws for her that everything goes well.
