It has been a long time since we updated Sammy’s page. A lot has happened with this beautiful senior gal since last time.
First, Sammy’s growth on her leg was evaluated and determined to be a cancerous tumor. Because it was so incredibly infected, she was put on 2 weeks of antibiotics to clear her infection before it could be removed. Once her infection cleared, she was scheduled for her surgery. Her surgery went fine but poor Sammy came out with a 6-inch long incision with a drain put in to drain fluid build-up while it healed. Unfortunately for us, the location of her wound made it impossible to bandage as no bandage will remain in place on that part of her leg. So, she came home a real bleeding mess. We made her a bed of towels and blankets in the laundry room on the tile floor so that she had a place to lay that could be cleaned easily - we were gonna need to do some cleaning after this!
My son drove in the back seat with Sammy on the way home, reassuring her and helping to keep her from licking her ouchie. Once we got home, we spent the first 2 days sitting on the floor with her, petting her and making her feel better. She was very sore and stiff the first couple of days. My son was even found in the room, with Sammy’s head on his lap, reading to her from his favorite book that first night. Boy, that will sure melt a mother’s heart!
Weeks have since passed and despite Sammy’s early help with pulling out her own stitches and staples, she has healed nicely and is in perfect shape. But, the best news for Sammy is that she found a new family - her foster family. We have decided to permanently add her to our family and she fits in perfectly.
Please enjoy some new-er pictures of Sammy and wish her well as she lives out the rest of her days as a happy, RAGOM girl.
