Sammy found his forever home today and will have a new sister in his new home.

Sammy is about the most affectionate dog we have ever fostered and is an active one year old. His new home has a large backyard to play in, and when he met the adoptive family’s female Golden, they ran and played together! He went to everyone for pets and snuggles, which of course he got plenty of.

His adoptive family has had three other RAGOM dogs and treat their dogs as family members. We are so happy for Sammy to have this wonderful new life and a sister to play with. We will miss him dearly, as he stole our hearts, but we know he has a great life ahead of him.

Sammy is a 1-year-old purebred Golden Retriever who was rescued from a commercial breeder at an auction. He is tall, lean in build, has a beautiful golden/red coat and weighs 64 pounds. He is housebroken and gets along with all dogs that he meets.

He will need a home with another confident dog, preferably a young dog that likes to play. A fairly young, playful dog in your family would be ideal for him. A physical fence would be best as he is active and likes to have room to run and play.

Sammy has been around multiple young children without any problem, so children 10 years old and up would be fine. He has not been cat tested. No anxieties or resource guarding.

He has free roam with our 11-year-old dog and had two instances: he chewed on the top of a leather boot I left by the front door and a pair of glasses left on an end table. Other than that he has shown no other destructive behavior.

He will counter surf if food is left within reach and unsupervised, although we keep food away from reach of both dogs.

Sammy is very affectionate and will roll on his back for some belly rubs any chance he can or rest his head on your lap waiting to be petted. Loves to snuggle.

He throws his toys in the air and catches them, then zooms around the yard wanting you to chase him. He knows commands of “sit” and “down” and comes readily when you call his name. He’s smart, loyal, and gets along well with other dogs.

Sammy likes to watch TV, especially if animals are on, and he loves to spend time at the front window with his paws crossed watching whatever is going on.

He still pulls on the leash at times and especially if he sees a squirrel or wants to greet another dog, so we have been working on “heel” when walking. He needs daily exercise and currently gets a 30- to 45-minute walk daily and gets to a dog park a couple times a week.

Sammy will melt your heart once you meet him. So if you’re looking for an active, affectionate young dog that loves to be with you and play with everyone, this is the guy!
