Sandy 04-357

Profile

October 2004:  Sandy is a 3 month old female intact Golden mix. She is housetrained and is friendly to both dogs and cats. She is very social, and she doesn't like to be put in her crate for naps. She would much rather sleep at the feet of anyone or anything around. She was last spotted cuddling with our 95 lb. Golden. When she is isolated for naps, she doesn't make a peep until she knows it is time to get up.

We picked up Sandy last night and she is already fitting into our household with 2 other dogs and 2 cats. The dogs have already accepted her as a member of the house. The cats are keeping their distance for now, but it didn't stop Sandy from giving our older cat a big kiss when she arrived.

She was really good in the car, no crying or accidents, and slept right through the night. Since she is young, she still needs a lot of attention. But those energy spurts don't last very long and she quickly hunts down a spot for a nap.

Sandy is a very sweet, mellow, lovable, adorable puppy that would love to go to a great home. If you have that home for Sandy, please let RAGOM know so we can get her into her permanent home.

We're back from another trip to the woods with Sandy and Bubba.  As you can see, the two dogs have a lot of fun together and keep themselves entertained and exercised.  However, when it comes time for some lovin' up, they are more than happy to snuggle in with us two legged folks.  Sandy spent a good amount of time with her nose to the ground, but never wandered into the woods too far, and would reluctantly come when called (eventually).  She mostly would follow Bubba (resident dog) around and follow her lead.  Sandy has a low, fierce sounding growl when she's on
alert and a big loud bark to let you know if someone is coming.  Sandy LOVES water, as you can see from her pics from the trip.  She is just an all around super Sandy.

Sorry no one's updated me for awhile, my foster mom took me on vacation to the woods.  Some of the pictures she's included in this update are from vacation and some from the backyard here in the city.

No matter where I am, my #1 goal is fun.  That's why my tongue is hanging out in so many pictures or the ones where I'm playing with Bubba are blurry, because I am a girl on the go, although I do like to power lounge after a good
romp with Bubba. Right now I am dictating this to my foster mom in her office, while Bubba and I are sprawled at her feet.

Foster mom says I have to tell people the whole story of me, so I guess I have to fess up to some of my less desirable traits.  Like last night, I ate a hole in the middle of the hand towel, BUT, I didn't even TOUCH the edges!  Tricky eh?  Also, I love my loud bark and love hearing it resound throughout the neighborhood.  If Bubba barks
once at someone passing on the sidewalk, I like to bark 10 times, the sound of my voice is that wonderful!   I do get quite exuberant when people come over, but I am getting A LOT better about not jumping up on them but I still do
like for them to hear my wonderful bark.  I don't think foster mom likes it so much though, so I bark a little bit less every week.  Um, I did run across the street the other day to visit a really cute dog going for a walk and I know that was naughty because my foster mom was MAD, but I never did that before and not since, so maybe I learned my
lesson.  I usually am super good about staying in the yard, even if the gate is open, or the garage door is open, foster mom gives me "that look", tells me to stay, and I stay!  But, she didn't tell me to stay, so I went!  My fault?  I don't think so.

Now for my many GOOD points!

I am super strong and I like to go for walks, but I just hate that gentle leader, so I'm still working on that. I know sit, stay, and down.  After just a few tries, I now know to let foster mom in the house first, then Bubba, then me.  I am not the least bit selfish with my food or space, I like to finish off Bubba's breakfast while she finishes mine.  I have free reign of the house and the towel episode has been the only thing I've chewed up, and there are a lot of shoes to pick from around here.  I do like to bring people their socks and slippers sometimes, but I think that's just being helpful.

Oh, I do want to go somewhere that has a fun dog for me to play with.  It could be big or little but I can't imagine not chasing a dog trying to bite it's tail (for fun) every day, usually 5 times a day.  And a fenced yard keeps me happy for hours sniffing every inch of the ground.  And......please can I have a pool?  I will look at you adoringly with my big brown eyes for hours if I can have a $7 plastic pool.

Well, enough for now, hope you like the photos of me and Bubba.

Sandy Sandy Sandy.  What a great dog!  She loves playing fetch at the park and in the backyard. Sandy and Bubba now engage each other in play and chase each other around the gazebo. THAT has turned into the greatest game for them, we humans like it because
1.  it is VERY entertaining to watch, and

2.  it really tires both of them out.

We had Sandy gently go into Lorna's (the recovering cat) recovery "suite" and Sandy jumped up on the bed, sniffed Lorna and laid down. Lorna was unfazed. It was a nice meet and greet.  Absolutely zero threatening or fearful behavior from either one.  I don't think Sandy was being vicious or threatening when Lorna got hurt, I think she was just over excited and Lorna was in the wrong place at the wrong time.  I'm glad that we hung in there with Sandy and kept her here.
All the animals are progressing nicely with each other, and Sandy continues to be the absolutely sweetest dog ever to all humans, young, old and in between.  She's quite a chatterbox too we are discovering more and more as she becomes more comfortable here.

We have had Sandy here for two weeks now, and it's amazing how she has snuggled her way into all our hearts.  It will be very tough to let her go, but we know there's a forever home out there that will let her blossom as the super love that she is!

Here are some illustrations that tell you more about Sandy than words ever could.

Sandy initially didn't seem to like Bubba (resident dog), but as the days went by they were more and more tolerant of each other culminating in todays accidental breakthrough where they both were in the back yard together unleashed. Tails
were wagging and we humans were completely wowed.  Thanks to Konnie's home visit to introduce yet another dog to the mix on thursday, we humans also learned quite a bit from her visit.  So by friday evening both dogs are in and out of the house alone and together at their whim, WOW.  We did have a kitty chase incident between Sandy went after the cat which landed Lorna (the cat) at the vet for stitches, so that was distressing for all.  But lorna is recovering nicely in her very own upstairs "suite".

I am including photos of the beautiful sandy having fun here at the house, isn't she a doll?  The vet said she is probably a golden and collie mix, makes for a good looking dog eh?  And a super sweet heart to all 2 and some 4 legged creatures. Sandy does love her pool time.

Sandy has come back into RAGOM because she has too much energy for her family, who now has a newborn and a 3 year old, and they didn't have enough time for her.  What an adventure Sandy has had today!  She left her home of the last two years.  She drove away with a stranger, met up with yet more strangers (us!) and laid down in the back of the van and closed her eyes.  Arriving at her foster home was a little more exciting however.  Sandy and Bubba (resident dog) had some issues upon Sandy's arrival.  Well..........Sandy had some issues.  This is our first foster dog and Bubba loves everybody and every dog and cat.  But Sandy had had a very tough day and just wasn't up for one more new thing, so there was some MAJOR growling and snapping at Bubba in the back yard, but both were leashed so no incidents.  Bubba was just very disappointed that Sandy was too stressed to play!

Long day turned into a short story; after a number of walks with both dogs side by side and doing very well together, and on the last walk actually being playful with each other, we got to spend the evening with one person and dog on one couch and me and one dog on the other couch.  Wow, was that fun!  So after a tough meet and greet, we are all feeling positive and excited about peace on the home front!

Oh, and Sandy is a super love.  Wow, what a sweetheart to every two legged creature she encountered today.  We have appointments on Tuesday for grooming and getting UTD on shots, so look out for the beautiful Sandy hitting the photo albums soon!

Thanks to all the RAGOM folks who helped us get through our first day as fosters.  It really, really, really helped all involved!
