10/20/06: Sassy came to spend some time at the Apple River Resort late Wednesday evening. She laid quietly on her dog bed most of the way home and stood up occasionally to take a quick sniff at the cool night air flowing through her backseat window. She jumped eagerly into the truck and was an excellent passenger. Shortly after arriving home and meeting her new brother she quickly found a pile of once cherished and since disgarded doggie toys and stuffed animals. At age 7 I assumed that she wouldn?t be too playful, but boy was I wrong! She doesn?t act or look like 7, more like a one year old just growing out of the puppy stage. Squeakers were sounding, stuffed animal stuffing was flying and a full fledged game of tug was soon to be in session. She continued on playing until I got tired of it and then spent the majority of her night exploring her new house. Although initially not too sure of the stairs, she had soon explored her new surroundings top to bottom. She does great with kids and had free roam of the house for the entire 8 hours I was away at work. No accidents and she will go to the door if she wants/needs to go outside. She is a great house guest, but would benefit from some obedience training. If she gets really excited she will jump up and put two paws on your chest. She doesn?t counter surf and stays off from furniture unless invited. So far she seems to know sit and lay, but catches on quick so with a little work and time I think you could train her to do just about anything. She is starved for attention and wants nothing more than to play fetch, tug, or sit and be petted for as long as you can without your arm getting tired. Her coat was in fairly rough shape, and we did out best to clean out all the mats and old hair. She is the first dog I have ever encountered that willingly jumped in the bathtub and didn?t hate the entire process. She was very patient while I worked on grooming her. It was almost as if she was enjoying it and knew it was making her into the beautiful girl that she really is. She does well with cats and would make an excellent family dog for anyone who is willing to offer her the loving home she deserves. We have a vet appointment tonight and will be scheduling a spay at that time. In the mean time you should schedule a visit to come and meet the girl of your dreams!
