Merry Christmas to the Senior Goldens and their fosters from Anonymous

Hello RAGOM fans!  You are in for a treat because you are about to meet Savanah, a BEEEE-U-TEEEE-FUL 65 pound pure-bred Golden Retriever being fostered in Grand Forks, ND.  Savanah was surrendered to RAGOM because the family she was living with moved from a farm setting to town, and Savanah just wasn’t happy with the change.  Savanah’s age is somewhat questionable…her previous vet lists her age at about 7 years, but her surrendering owner was under the impression that she was closer to 10 years.  Regardless, Savanah is a very playful Goldie girl that we have nicknamed Chet.  Why you ask?  Well, when Savanah is excited and her name is called, she barrels towards you like Chet, the “reindeer in training” from the Santa Clause 2 movie…front and back legs going every-which-way, head bobbing, moving at 90 mph to get to her people (especially foster mom).  It is absolutely hilarious (and adorable) to watch!  She also S*M*I*L*E*S and grunts when she’s happy…definitely one talented Golden!!!

Here’s what we know about Savanah so far (as much as you can learn in a week anyways):

~housetrained…not even one accident!
~does not like to be crated
~enjoys riding in the car
~spent most of her life as a breeding dog
~good with kids 10 and older
~learning to walk on a leash without pulling (usually quits pulling after about a block)
~afraid of loud noises or sudden movements (cowers, heads to a safe corner)
~no storm anxieties or guarding issues (does growl when the resident Golden comes over for attention but stops  when told “no”)
~LOVES swimming in the lake
~does not play with toys or tennis balls…YET!
~enjoys lots and lots of love and attention and gives back 10 times as much as she’s given
~eats well and LOVES treats
~seems to get along with other dogs after some “settling in” time
~is well-mannered…doesn’t jump on furniture/beds unless she’s invited…no counter-surfing

Savanah has stolen our hearts in the short time she’s been here, so if you’d like to give this sweet girl your heart, contact your placement advisor.

Okay, where’d foster mom go?!
Don’t you just hate it when you get water in your ear?!

Look out!!!  Here comes Savanah (aka CHET)!!!

Updates

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

Hey, RAGOM fans…Sorry about the delay in updating Savannah’s page; our family was on vacation in Florida for a week and then had to get things organized for Thanksgiving.  Prior to all that, Savannah went to see the vet because she was having problems with leaking urine when she’d lie down.  The vet tested for a UTI, and since that came back negative, she put Savannah on some meds to help tighten the bladder muscles.  So far, we’ve only seen two “accidents” since starting the meds…Let’s hope they do the job!

Savannah is truly enjoying her new life as a RAGOM foster girl.  She still startles at sudden noises and movements but has improved greatly in this department.  Her favorite thing to do is have attention paid to her…scratches, tummy rubs, hugs, kisses…she eats it all up and begs for more.  Savannah was also excited to discover the snow.  She dove off the deck steps and did nothing but roll and roll and roll in it…She looked like the abominable snow dog when she came back in the house!

Savannah would like to send out BIG golden kisses to her sponsor, Connie Jendro and wish her an early Merry Christmas!

Happy “almost” Halloweeeenie time everyone!  One week from tonight me and my lil hooooomans will be goin’ door-to-door collectin’ treats.  I wonder if I’d get some doggie goodies if I carried my own bag?!  One thing’s for sure, I AIN’T WEARIN’ NO GOOFY LOOKIN’ COSTUME!!!  I saw some pics from last year, and they had my foster sis (a big Goldie gurl like me) dressed in some kinda witch costume thingy.  She looked REEEEEEEEdiculous!

Anyways, I thought I’d just check-in to let all my fans know that life is WAY GOOD here in “fosterville.”  Sometimes I get to go for car rides to pick up the little hooooomans from all their activities, or we go through those drive-thru resty-raunt places that give us doggies TREATS.  I gobble mine up right away while my foster sis saves hers for later.  Oh, this weekend we puppy-sat a little Maltese gurl.  She yapped and yapped and yapped at me and my foster sis, but we did not give her the satisfaction of barkin’ back at her.  I don’t know who she thinks she is, comin’ into our house and tryin’ to tell us what to do.  Sheeeeesh…Anyways, FM was pretty proud of me for not barkin’ back or gettin’ upset ‘cause the little pup got some of the attention.

In case you’re wonderin’, I’m still lookin’ for that special place to call my “furever” home.  Let me refresh your memory ‘bout the things me and FM are lookin’ for to make me happy…

A)      Since I’m a former “puppy-miller”, I need to have a physical fence to keep me safe.

B)      Another big, confident doggie in the house is a MUST…I have learned SO MUCH from my foster sis ‘bout how to be a doggie, and FM wants to make sure that I continue my ed-you-kay-shon.

C)      A home wif no little kids is also nessy-sary on a counta I tend to startle easily (those little two-leggers have a tendency to run around and make lotsa scary noises).

D)      FM says I’m what they call a “Velcro” dog, so I need a family who will give me lots of love, attention, and scratchies and won’t mind that I follow them around…even into the bafroom.

E)      I like to chew, so I’ll need MY OWN things to chew on or I’ll find someone else’s things to chew on which probly isn’t a good thing…’specially if my new mom likes to buy ‘spensive shoes like my FM.

Wadda ya think?!  Can you give me the things I’ll need to be happy?  If you think so, contact your placement advisor.

Saturday, October 9, 2010

Hey, everyone!  It’s me, Savannah, stoppin’ by to give a quick update ‘bout what I’ve been up to in my foster home lately.  The weather has been soooooo nice, so I’ve been hangin’ in the backyard wif my furry foster sis a lot and followin’ FM while she picks what’s left of the garden.  I’ve also discovered that we have these two VERY short, VERY furry creatures on the other side of our fence.  FM calls them cats…whatever that is.  Anyways, I wanna check them out but cannot figure out HOW to get on the other side of this big fence…Me and my foster sis tried diggin’ under it, but that only got us on FM’s “list” and required baths for BOTH of us.

FM says I need to “come clean” and let my future peeps know a few things ‘bout me…Mommy says to always start wif something positive, so HERE GOES… First I want to say that I am a VERY sweet, VERY loving Goldie gurl who LOVES attention from my hoooooomans.  That’s a good thing, right?  Okay, sometimes I get a little over excited and jump up on my hoooooomans…and do a snorty-growly-tailwaggin’ thing when I wanna play, which might be scary at first if you didn’t know it was just my way of being friendly…and I burp…LOUDLY.  I’m respectful of baby-gates and listen when I’m told “no.”  I do pull a lot when walking on a leash (mostly ‘cause I’m SO excited to be going for a walk) and HAVE to sniff everything as I go.  I have also been known to bring FM’s jammies down the stairs and snuggle on them whiles she’s gone to work during the day.  Isn’t that S-W-E-E-T?!

So, that’s ME…Savannah Montana…If you think you have some love to spare and some time to spend teachin’ me a few things, give your placement advisor a call.  I’ll be here waiting to meet you…XOXOXO Vannah

FM here…

Savannah did a great job updating, but I wanted to add just a couple things.  Vannah has been with us for about two months now and has really begun to show her true personality.  Although she still startles at sudden noises or movement, she has gotten so much better.  When she first arrived, she would “hide” in the corners of the living room or behind one of the chairs, but now sprawls out wherever we are, waiting for attention.  She has also begun to try to play with our resident Golden, Maya…except Maya doesn’t really have any interest in playing with her.  I’m hoping that her “forever home” will have a dog that actually wants to pal around with Vannah and teach her some of the things she missed out on learning as a breeding mama.  Savannah loves to chew on bones and has started to figure out what toys are, too…for de-stuffing, of course!  Actually, this is a good thing…When she came, Vannah was somewhat afraid of the toys in the basket and now she can be found emptying out the basket, looking for that “perfect” stuffie or tennis ball to chew on.  Lately she has begun to chew on some things that she shouldn’t…the kids’ shoes…but redirecting her to her own things has worked quite well.

From the moment I picked Savannah up from the transport team, I wondered why someone would give her up…she was a perfect Golden girl right from the start.  Now, two months later, I’m still wondering.  She has melded with our family so well, stealing everyone’s heart…It is definitely going to be very difficult to say good-bye to her when her “forever family” walks through the door.

First off, I need to ‘pologize for FM not updatin’ on me sooner. I decided to take over the ‘puter sos it will actually get done. FM “claims” she’s been extra busy wif work and the little hoooooomans that live wif us, but I heard a rooooomor that she was spotted fraternizing wif other doggies at that BIG Goldzilla picnic in MPLS last weekend. Did anyone notice that SHE DIDN’T BRING ME?! Sheeeesh!!! Anyways, things are going grrrrrrrreat here in my foster home. My spay stitches came out on September 10, and the itching down there is finally going away. It was so bad at one point that FM made me wear some stupid shirt sos I wouldn’t lick and make my ouchies bleed. Take a look at how ridiculous I looked…Of course the hoooooomans around here thought I was cute!

FM and the kids have been back at skooool for almost a month now, leaving me and the resident fur-butt home by ourselves until FD comes home for lunch. It’s not too bad…When FD comes home we go out and play in the backyard and get some scratchies and treats. With that said, I know everyone will think I’m a baby, but I still miss my FM so much when she’s gone that I’ve started draggin’ her clothes down to the couch during the day sos I can lay on them when I’m feelin’ lonely. I don’t hurt them or anything, it’s just that FM smells so good and makes me feel safe…’Cause of this, FM thinks I’m going to need a “furever” home where there is another fur-butt to keep me company during the day. I’m also going to need sumone who’s willing to spend lots of time wif me when they are home from work…OR it would be even better if I had a “furever” home where the peeps were home all day. This isn’t necessary ‘cause I do just fine while I’m alone, it would just be nice.

FM says I am just the bestest foster EVER!!! Everyone I meet pretty much falls in luv wif me on a counta my “golden” personality…’Course I think that it’s the adorable way I “burp” when I’m done eating or the way I run like that outa control reindeer on the Santa Claus 2 movie or how I get soooooo excited that I snort when it’s morning time that makes me wiggle my way into hooooooooman hearts. Whatever it is, give placement a call if you want a chance to have me wiggle my way into YOUR heart.

Do you think orange is my color???

Savannah has had a big week!  On Tuesday, she was spayed, had her toooofers cleaned, and had one of her front teeeefers extracted.  She was pretty worn-out and sore when I brought her home and didn’t move much…except to throw-up all over the carpet…over…and over…and over…In Savannah’s defense, this was not her fault.  The vet tech told me to try NOT to let her drink or eat for the rest of the day to avoid “cleaning vomit off the floor.”  Did I listen?…kind of…I didn’t allow her to eat but did let her have a drink.  Now, if you knew Savannah, you’d know that she DOES NOT just drink “a little”…she drinks like she’s never had water in her entire life.  And…when I finally wised up and took the water dish off the floor, she had no problem finding “other water sources” within her reach (the toilet).  Other than “tossing her cookies,” she came through the surgery with flying colors and is pretty much back to her silly self.  She really hasn’t even been bothering her stitches…just the other shaved spots on her tummy that are itching and driving her nuts!

We headed to the lake for the long weekend with Savannah in tow.  She had a great time running around the yard and going for walks with our resident dog, Maya (Sadie 07-205).  Even without a fence, Savannah stays in the yard and comes as soon as you call her name.  With that said, I’m thinking that maybe she wouldn’t need a physical fence in her “furever” home and could maybe be out on a long rope/tie in the backyard when doing her business or enjoying some outside time.  If she were not on a rope, she would certainly need to be on a long lead and be supervised at all times, as she does tend to wander.  I’m going to have to give this a little more thought though…

As you can see from the pictures, Savannah has definitely made herself at home.  In the pictures, we are driving home from the lake and both dogs are in the backseat with one of our kids…Savannah is the one all stretched out with her snout in our resident dog’s furry butt!  I think Maya is starting to enjoy Savannah’s company as much as Savannah enjoys having her around the house.  A month ago I would never have allowed them to sit that closely together, as they were somewhat growly and snarly toward one another.  Now I find them following each other around the yard and laying in close proximity to one another.  Because of this, I do think it is really important for Savannah to have another dog around to keep her company if she’s going to be alone during the day…She loves to hog all the attention in the house to herself and seems pretty confident, but I still think she likes the security she gets from another dog and learns the ins and outs from them, too.

If you think you might be a match for this RAGOM girl, give your placement advisor a call.  Stay tuned for more updates…

Monday, August 23, 2010

Hey everyone, it’s me, Savannah Montana…FM said I could do the update this time ‘cause it is soooooooooo exciting! First of all, the fur doc called today and told FM that my lab results came back and that they were N-O-R-M-A-L!!! Yeeeeeeeehawwwwwwww! FM said I’m “healthy as a horse” but am not sure what a horse has to do wif anything. Anyways, FM and the fur doc scheduled me to be spayed on August 31…guess my puppy-makin’ days are REALLY OVER…finally…I’m ‘zausted!

Now I’m not so sure why FM got so ‘cited about this, but she told me to be sure to tell about it, so here goes…The other night we were just all hangin’ out in the living room, and I decided to check out the big basket in the corner. I pulled out this stuffed white thing and started chewin’ on it. Sheeeeeesh…You’d think I’d “walked on water” or sumthin’ by the way FM and the lil hooooomans reacted! They did the same thing today when I picked up a tennie ball in the back yard…If you ask me, they’d all better cut back on the sugar or sumthin’ ‘cause they get WAY too excited ‘bout stuff.

As far as what I’ll need in my “fur-ever” home goes, here’s what I think…

  • All the kibble I can eat
  • Occasional trips to the DQ for a puppy cup
  • A king-size bed sos I can snuggle wif my hoooomans
  • A lake cabin on a counta I LOVE the water
  • Someone to scratchy my ears 24/7
  • Someone to rub my belly 24/7 whiles the other hooooman is scratchy-ing my ears

I’ll let you know if I think of anything else…I’m new to this “pampering” stuff, so give me some time…If you’d like to meet me, give your placement advisor a call sos they can let my FM know. See ya later…XOXOXOXO Savannah Montana

FM here…Savannah did a pretty good job with the update except for maybe the part about her “fur-ever” home. Here’s what I think she’ll need to have from her new family…

  • Lots and lots of love and attention…tummy rubs, ear scratches, walks…
  • A home with children ten and over since she is a puppy mill mama and tends to startle easily
  • A physical fence even though Savannah has done well with visits to our lake cabin without one (we ALWAYS keep her in our sight and on a trailing lead)
  • Another confident, large breed dog for her to follow
  • Lots and lots of love and attention…tummy rubs, ear scratches, walks…Oooops! I mentioned this already, but it is THE most important need in my opinion

Savannah continues to be a joy to foster. She is so excited to see you in the morning or when you come home, greeting you with her crazy snorting/smile/prancing combinations (it’s something you have to see to really appreciateJ) Savannah loves EVERYONE she meets and immediately steals their hearts with her loving disposition. If you are looking for unending Golden love, Savannah is your girl! Enjoy the pics…Isn’t she beeeeee-utiful?!

Here’s me and my foster fur, Maya (Sadie 07-205) loungin’ on the couch together.  I’m the one on the right…Cute, huh?!

FM must not a heard of a thing called “personal space”…Sheesh! Little close don’t you think?!

Exploring the backyard…OK, FM is sitting just a few feet away,
but I’m STILL exploring.

Wouldn’t I look good in YOUR yard?!
