I adopted Sawyer 12 years ago. I am terribly sad to say that I had to put him to sleep today.

He was a wonderful addition to our family and loved very much. His condition and mobility issues were too great to overcome. At the end, his tail wagged. No more pain for our boy.

Thank you for bringing this bright light into my life.

Sawyer has been in our home for a week now and he seems to be adjusting well to life in a home.  He is still very affectionate and just can't get enough human contact.  I'm sure life in the shelter was hard on him so we do our best to let him know his new life will be full of love and attention - I think he is finally starting to believe me.

He is completely housebroken-no accidents in our home.  I leave him and my resident dog out when we are gone and they are very good.  He has never chewed anything, eaten anything, scratched up anything - I know they play a lot and are usually fast asleep when I get home.

I have used a Gentle Leader for our walks and it is wonderful.  I can now walk both dogs at once!  He does need a lot of exercise and I think would love a home with a yard so he didn't have to be tied out.  We are still trying to teach him fetch but he's not really interested in a ball which I think might change....what dog doesn't want to play ball?

He is a very happy boy and will make a wonderful addition to a family with kids - look at this boy smile!!  Who can say no to that??

Original Initial Bio:

Say hello to Sawyer from Madison, SD.  He is a 2 year old Golden, UTD , neutered and house trained.  He is blond in color and about 60 pounds.  He is gorgeous!

Now for the rest of the good stuff...he is an extremely affectionate boy.  He is well-mannered and pays attention to commands.  He sits, shakes and responds when we say, "No Sawyer".  He has not bothered our cat and plays well with our resident dog.  The neighbor boy came over to play fetch and Sawyer took an immediate liking to him so I can say he will be good around kids (at least 6 and up).  He isn't very interested in playing fetch; he'd rather sit (on you) and be petted, as you can see in the picture below.

He is quite tall and at only 60 pounds, I think he could gain about 10 pounds because you can feel this back bone and his ribs.  He is very strong and I will work with him to get more comfortable walking on a leash.  I think he would make a good running partner for someone and plan to try this out myself this week.  He is very energetic but after a 2-3 mile walk and a run in the park on Sunday, he slept like a baby.

He is just a wonderful boy and with the right home and lots of exercise, he is sure to make an awesome addition to someone's family.
