Scarlett 09-159

Profile

Please welcome Scarlett (09-159) to the RAGOM family!

  • She was found as a stray, so we don’t know her entire story, but we are excited to start a new chapter in her ‘Golden Life.’
  • She is a 5-6 year old, PB Golden Retriever
  • Scarlett was rescued from a local shelter.  She is 58 lbs and a super sweet girl.
  • She is UTD, spayed, and Frontlined.  She did see the vet on Friday, and received a clean bill of health.
  • She is missing 2 toes on her right front paw and walks with a slight limp, but that doesn’t slow her down a bit!  We do not know her history for that but the vet seems to think that those toes were amputated.

She is so happy to be outside running and playing.  She loves to retrieve anything you throw!  She loves being outside.  We haven't figured out if she just likes the outside, or it is a place to get away from our resident GR, Trax (3 yrs).  The two are now doing fine.  She seems equally content to be lying down at your feet.  She must have been someone’s pet at one point, because she likes to try to relax on the couch (which is a no, no in our home, unless invited!), and seems to be housebroken since she hasn’t had an accident in the house yet (knock on wood).  She slept all night beside our bed.  She doesn’t appear to have any food, toy or bite aggressions.  She is very good with our 18 month old daughter, Karolyn (Kara).  She enjoyed watching Kara hunt for Easter eggs too.  She did get groomed as she was very matted and scruffy (bath was definitely in order).  She did fine at the groomer’s and now looks like the beautiful golden she is!  She has the most beautiful curly and red coat.  She is a sheer joy to foster.  We feel extremely blessed to have her in our home.  Any family would be exceedingly fortunate to add her as a member of your family!  Please contact your placement advisor if you would like to meet Miss Scarlett!  This is a very special girl.

Our beautiful Scarlett found her forever home this morning! She met the S family and their resident Golden and was so happy…I don’t think her tail stopped wagging the entire time!

As our first foster, Scarlett will always hold a very special place in our hearts, and we feel so blessed to have been a part of her life!  We know that she will live the “Golden Life” with her new family and never be starved for love or attention again!

We love you Miss Scarlett, our little red girl!

I took Scarlett to the vet this morning because she was limping and licking her foot that is missing 2 toes.  The vet said that because she walks on just 3 toes, that her 3rd toe is swollen and inflamed from constant weight and pressure on her foot.  He gave us some anti-inflammatory samples to try called Rimadyl (50 mg).  I also had him check her hips for arthritis (she was climbing our stairs pretty slowly the other day and I didn't know if that was because of her sore front paw or possibly her hips).  He checked her flexibility and it is pretty good, but she is a little tiny bit stiff.  He put her on Synov G3 Soft Chews for that...just so she will be a little more comfortable and as a little preventative.  She is doing well and was such a good girl at the vet. She is just the sweetest girl! We all just love her!

Scarlett has started to settle into our little home and our daily routine.  She is such a sweet girl.  We did get her fecal tested and found out that she does have a parasite…very common for a stray.  She just needed another 3 days worth of medicine and that should take care of it.  She will get re-checked in month.  She doesn’t mind taking her medicine though…we mix it in with peanut butter and make her a little sandwich and down it goes! Our resident GR, Trax, loves it too…even though he doesn’t have any medicine to take, he always gets one too!  We have to be fair!  The vet did also find a lump on her chest.  He determined that it was just a mole and was nothing to be concerned about at this time.

Scarlett is a perfect house-guest.  She lets you know that she has to go out by going to the door and giving a little whine or a bark.  She is gentle, calm and loving.  Our daughter likes to sit beside her (or on her in many cases) and ‘read’ to her.  She loves to be outside…especially in the morning.  She loves to lie in the sun, relax and watch the world go by.  Sounds like a good life to me!  She is has been on several car rides (our dogs go nearly everywhere with us!), and she has done great.  So content to lie in the back of the van…unless we are going through a drive-thru, then she usually pushes her way to the front, hoping for a sample of whatever it is we have gotten!  When she does get excited and wants to play, she barks, whines and growls…she sounds like Chubaka!  It so endearing…but then, that is her.

Scarlett is meeting a potential adoptive family in May.  We are all very excited to see if she will be a good match for the ‘S’ family.  Although we most certainly love Miss Scarlett, I know that she is looking forward to finding her forever home.  She is an exceptional dog.  Any family would be lucky to have her!
