We've been so enjoying having our little Scooby, that I haven't rushed to put him on the website, as I'm quite sure he'll get adopted quickly.  He is the cutest, sweetest little guy you could ever meet.  (Besides the fact my son borrowed our camera, so I haven't been able to take pictures.)  Scooby came to us from a breeder that wanted him to get help.  They so loved him that they asked us if they could write a piece of his first update.  The following is from Scooby's surrendering owner and so are the pictures:"Scooby is eight weeks old, born May 26th,2008. Scooby has six brothers and sisters. His Mom and Dad are Buddy and Molly. Scooby was born with three normal legs and one missing paw. He has a great attitude and a sweet heart.

"Scooby came into our life at a time when our daughter was very sick with Encephalitis. Scooby's calm and loving disposition was very comforting to her. He received lots of attention from his birth family. We all have fallen deeply in love to this special guy. Scooby has had to work hard and has learned to hop well and keeps up with his siblings. Our daughter's strength is coming back and she is working hard at physical therapy and managing her pain. We know God sent this special pup to us and that he has a perfect family for him. Thank you RAGOM for all you do to help special puppies like Scooby. Here are a couple of pics of Scooby."

Yesterday, we took Scooby for an outing to visit some RAGOM foster homes and vaccinated dogs.  It's amazing how happy people are to see you when you have an 8 week old puppy in your arms!  One thing that absolutely amazes me about him is that he keeps his kennel clean.  He'll bark/whimper in the middle of the night and you take him outside and he immediately does his business.  Quite impressive for a puppy of his age.  That doesn't mean he's housetrained yet, just that he keeps his kennel clean.  If he's not in his kennel, then he doesn't whimper and squats instead, but then he's only 8 weeks old.  He doesn't miss a beat not having that lower limb.  He climbs right up the stairs and follows us all over the house, he runs around on my tile floor and outside in the grass.

Monday morning we have an appointment to meet with the vet surgeon regarding his partial right front leg.  The missing lower limb is due to a congenital malformation.  He rotates it like he's trying to use it to walk, but it doesn't touch the ground and he likely will do better long-term without it.  It's my guess that the vet surgeon will want to remove it on Monday since it provides him no benefit.  Good news is that dogs do fabulous on three legs and he was born without the use of that leg, so really won't know any different.  As a tripod, his body should reposition and strengthen appropriately.  I'll update Monday after the vet appointment and hopefully, I'll have my camera back, or learn how to use my phone camera, so we can send you new and updated pictures of this beautiful little puppy.

With a goodby puppy kiss, Scooby went with his new family this morning.  I'll get to see him again in 4 to 6 months when we re-evaluate whether or not to remove his malformed leg, but in the meantime, he's starting on his new life.  He's going to be attending puppy kindergarten and obedience training, meeting people, going places, playing, cuddling and having a wonderful time.  When I was talking with this adoptive couple about Scooby, we chatted about how awesome it would be if he could be trained to be a therapy dog to visit children in hospitals that have disabilities and for Scooby to show them how great life is, even with handicaps.  His personality is go gentle and friendly that I think he would do very well as a therapy dog when he gets older.  Whether it's in his future or not, I don't know yet, but regardless, he's going to have a very happy, well-loved life with a nice, compassionate, caring family.

I love this picture of him and his new family.  He is such a beautiful young boy.

I got to go to a farm last weekend.  It was so fun.  I had to sit quietly in the car for a long time to get there and mom said I was very good.  She said we were going to a birthday party.  We finally stop the car and get out and WOW, this place is huge and there are lots of people and other dogs too.  I'm very friendly meeting the other dogs, I roll right over so they can sniff me and they'll know that I'm not going to hurt them, after all, I'm just a puppy and they are bigger than I am.  I met a ton of people, lots of pets and holding and oohing and aahing over what a handsome boy I am.  And lots of food too which these nice people were willing to share.  There were a group of people all standing together and I went over to visit and people were holding these things they call cameras and they told me they are taking family pictures.  I'd been eating and playing and my body said, time to poop, and I did my business and everyone burst out laughing.  What was so funny?  I was outside, I was doing what I was supposed to do outside.  It just happened that one of the people's feet and shoes was under my bottom at the time and they were getting their picture taken and the humans thought this was hilarious.

Next, mom says, we're going to go see the animals and baby calves and I thought, oh goody, babies like me.  We get to the barn and wait a minute, these aren't babies, they are huge!  Mom says they are babies and they are just born big -- whoa, then she showed me their moms and dads and they were even bigger yet.  On the other side were horses.  Dad put me on top of one of the horses and said I could go for a ride, but there was also a donkey and this person said that donkeys protect the horses from dogs.  This big horse needed to be protected from me?  End of my horseback riding for the day.   They put me back on the ground and you'll never guess what was right there, a huge pile of horse manure.  Wow, a dog's delicacy.  I lunged right in with my mouth wide open going for a huge bite and mom got all excited, scooped me up and shook my mouth so I dropped my treat.  Humans, I'll never understand them.  It started to rain and mom said, time to go home, and boy was I tired, and slept the whole way home.
