Scooby is a handsome 7 year old neutered male who was surrendered to RAGOM through no fault of his own.  Scooby is a gentle and sweet guy who loves just being near you and getting some love and attention.  Don't let his age and gentle demeanor fool you though, Scooby has a playful streak which is as fun as it is endearing.

Scooby does have a couple of medical issues, one of which is his weight.  Scooby isn't remarkably tall, and therefore his 95lbs is quite challenging for his smaller frame to support.  Mobility and comfort would be greatly increased by reducing his weight, so Scooby is on a diet and working on some good exercises each day.

Scooby also is on medication twice daily for seizures.  Since coming into foster care Scooby hasn't had a seizure.  On Friday Scooby goes to the vet, where he'll have some blood taken to make sure he's at the correct dose of seizure medicine.

Scooby does fine with other dogs, but doesn't need another dog to keep him company.  So a home with or without dogs would be just fine for Scooby.  Being the incredibly sweet and gentle dog that he is, Scooby's ideal family would be one who is willing to find time each and every day to show him love and affection.  His ideal family also wouldn't mind that Scooby prefers to be in the room with you and will follow his beloved people around the house.

We're still getting to know all the fun things about Mr. Scooby, so stay tuned for more updates!  If you have any questions about this wonderful, slightly round sweety, or are interested in finding out if he's the dog you've been waiting for, please e-mail placementatragom [dot] org.

Hi there from the Scoobs FM:
I took Scooby to the vet yesterday and the vet had some concerns based on the results from tests done a couple of weeks ago. In addition she will be analyzing his urine because of his big water intake to see what may be going on there. So I'll keep you posted when I hear back! Also, we just started him on a glucosamine and chondroitin supplement to help him as he ages with his joints. He continues to take his epilepsy meds like a champ!
After the vet appointment, we went to the PetSmart event and I think our little Scooby was pretty overwhelmed and most certainly exhaused during and after the event. But he got some nice pets and he liked that. We got in the car and as usual he just crashed in the back seat and I had to talk him out of the car when we got home.
Scooby is a very sweet dog and very lovable and every day I'm seeing signs that he's getting more comfortable and getting use to his new environment. I think a big transition for him is being a mostly indoor dog instead of mostly an outdoor dog. He and my resident dog continue to be just fine together--they are SO cute at night sleeping side by side on their beds, sometimes touching!
Scooby weighed in yesterday at 82 pounds so he has lost 2 pounds since coming to RAGOM. I have both he and my resident dog on a nice healthy diet to shed some pounds and take some pressure off those joints. The good news is the vet didn't think he was obese, but it would be good to take off some weight. So that's what we'll do--I'll be taking him around the nearby lake today to see what his stamina will be--he loves his walks, but we haven't tested his endurance yet--I'll bring my cell phone in case we need a lift back!
All for now about the little love muffin and looking forward to seeing Scooby adjusting more and more to all this 'strangeness' of attention, bones, loving and hanging out inside with the pack!
Scooby at home after PetSmart event--just pooped and waiting for FM to come back up from the basement.

Scooby has a sponsor!! Thank you to Susannah C. for her generosity and investing in the promise of Scooby's future.
Hi there, Scooby's foster mom here. I've had Scooby for about a week and a half and here are some things I have noticed so far.

  • -he is a love muffin and is easy going
  • -he still a little worried about being separated from his family
  • -he's a good nighttime sleeper
  • -he often snores but not all the time
  • -he makes luvin' snorts when he wants attention
  • -he's a counter-surfer!
  • -he'll get into your garbage if given the opportunity
  • -he's a fabulous car rider and a seat hog!
  • -he does not like to be crated
  • -he is starting to learn to take his meds with an "open up" command with a little help
  • -he likes his food and treats
  • -he likes his water
  • -he's got a beautiful coat and it's so nice and soft since his bath last week at the groomers
  • -he can go the whole night without getting up to go potty but we are working on him getting use to a workday (same amount of time) without going inside.
  • -he's great on leash and seems to really like his walks and shows excitement when you pull out the leash
  • -he's got great recall--will come almost instantly when you call him
  • -he understands "leave-it" and will stop almost instantly when you say it.
  • -he will chase squirrels if given the opportunity
  • -he gets along well with every dog he has met so far-male and female
  • -he would probably not do well in a house with cats--if they move/run he will chase
  • -he will chase another dog if they run
  • -he will chase you if you run!
  • -he's a chaser!! Now what chase-e dog wouldn't love that?
  • -he's looking for his new BFF! Is that you?

I'll see you at the PetSmart in Richfield with Scooby!

Hi Scooby here again!
Now that I've been at my new foster home for over a week now, my FM did uncover one issue that she hadn't seen yet. You see, before I came to RAGOM I was an outdoor dog mostly, so I could go potty and roam in my kennel at will and I didn't have to let anybody know. Now I'm in a great home with another old guy (I like that), but I'm not used to having to go potty on a schedule, so I've had a couple of accidents only while she has been at work. I just didn't know I wouldn't be able to go again until my FM gets home from work. I really felt bad that I went in the house, but I just couldn't hold it. Now she's giving me more time to do my business before she leaves in the morning. I think with routine and knowing what's expected, I will learn how to follow the schedule. It's all new to me and I'm very motivated to do the right thing.
Also, another thing that I kind of have done that's naughty is counter surf and get into the garbage--but now that she knows, she won't leave the temptations out--what's the dog to do? It was sitting right there calling me!
Note from Foster mom: I think these are all pretty manageable and will be corrected once Scooby has experience in his new home environment. I think there is just some manners and protocol he needs to learn that he didn't need to know in his previous home environment. I'll work with him and keep you posted on his progress! He's very motivated!

I'm going to be at PetSmart on Saturday 11/15 from 11-2--come and see me and see what a sweetie I am. I will love this event because I will love all the attention and luvin' and best of all--meeting you!

Please consider adopting an old mellow guy like me--I'll be your BFF! See you there!

Hi Scooby here!

I've been at my new foster home for a few days now and I'm really learning the house rules, which are pretty easy really--just some of them are new to me.
So far I haven't even let out one bark, so I think my FM is wondering if I ever will. I can hear just fine but I'm just a quiet guy and not that talkative.
In addition to being a great walker on the leash, I'm also a spectacular car rider. I just climb in the back seat (with a little help) and lay down. Nobody else seems to mind that I take up most of the back seat so I don't mind when resident dog Luca or our pal Libby sits on my head. We just squeeze in where we can and nobody complains.
FM did find out today at the groomers that I DO bark when left in the kennel. I guess I don't  really like being left in a kennel and pretty trustworthy with free roam of the house. The OTHER thing the FM saw was that I showed no interest in the cat at the groomers. So maybe I've been given a bad rap on the cat thing. Will report more about that as we learn more.
I am  taking my meds daily for my epilepsy and so far so good. I have not had a seizure for quite a while, so maybe one day I could even be weened off those meds. In the mean time, they are keeping a close eye one me.
If you want a guy like me that will be your best pal and will gladly go anywhere with you and you wouldn't mind giving me meds daily, please contact placementatragom [dot] org.
