Cedar is an 11 1/2 wk old PB Golden Retriever who came into RAGOM from a breeder who could not sell him due to an undescended testicle. Lucky for him, he doesn't need them anyways as he will need to be neutered at 6 months of age! :) He was born on May 21, 2009 and is a cutie. He seems to be built shorter and stockier but only time will tell what he will look like as an adult.
 
He went to the vet yesterday and weighed 16.6 lbs. He received his 2nd Distemper combo vaccination and got his microchip. He was pretty nervous at the vet but won over the hearts of everyone.
 
Cedar hasn't had a ton of socialization so can be a little nervous around new noises and situations. Even in the 3 days he has been with me I see him getting more comfortable and he tries his hardest to be brave. He likely wasn't exposed to a leash so walks are a new concept. It sometimes takes some coaxing to get him to start moving but he is learning I will not let anything hurt him. He's already learned people are wonderful and seeks out love from people. He is comfortable around other dogs though barking does seem to startle him. If any of the 3 resident dogs start barking....he rushes back to the door to seek comfort inside.
 
Today he met kids (6, 7 1/2, and almost 9 yrs old) and he enjoyed giving them kisses and having them pet him. He is also now showing interest in toys and has retrieved a tennis ball a few times!
 
Right now, things are new for Cedar. This includes car rides and being crated. He is anxious being in a crate but I will continue to show him it is ok and hopefully he will grow comfortable with being crated and even learn to like it. Exposure to these things is what is important.....over and over so he learns they will not hurt him.
 
His forever family needs to be able and willing to continue to expose him and socialize him. They also need to know that puppies are a lot of work. A LOT. They will chew on things, have accidents, and require patience and time. He can not "hold it" for a full work day at this age and needs to not be crated more than 4 1/2 hrs at a time until he gets older.

We've had Seger (formerly Cedar) for a week now. It seems like he's been with us much longer. Every day we fall more in love with him.

In April, we lost our 9 year old Golden to hemangiosarcoma. We definitely knew that someday, our future would include another Golden. Seger has helped restore our belief in life not being complete without a Golden to love.

Probably most thrilled by Seger's arrival is our Pug/Rat Terrier Mix, Bella. She has missed having a buddy. Our days (and nights) are filled with a rolling, tumbling blur of doggie fur. Seger and Bella are a perfect match. They have endless energy and it is a joy to watch them play.

 

Our 7-year old and 5-year old have also been really excited to welcome Seger. He is just the right amount of snuggle, mischief and play to keep their lives interesting as well.

Most importantly, we want to thank RAGOM and Brittney, Seger's foster mom. I continue to be amazed by the really good things you and the people who work with you do. I don't know how I could grow to love a dog, only to give it away to a new family and trust that I had made the right decision. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to be a great family for Seger and for giving us another chance at Golden love.
