Shelia (also known as Chicka) has made her trip from Sioux Falls SD to Apple Valley MN, the total trip took 6 hours because of a few detours. She made the trip well even though she may be pregnant! She has arrived to our home and met Stevee Rae (our blind 4 month old Golden) who she loves and stays close to, Mistee Bubbles our rescue Newf, she was not thrilled about and they had a few words, but are fine now and of course Sophee Bear she loves and is sleeping next to now.

If Shelia is pregnant she will desperately need a week or two to gain some good solid weight before she has these puppies, she is huge already and her back is starting to bow down. When she lays down her belly is massive to one side. Does this mean she is PG or just a medical condition – we will know on Tuesday when she has her Ultra Sound. Shelia needs an ultra sound for two reasons actually – to decide on a possible pregnancy and then check on a heart murmur that she definitely has.

What we know about Shelia is very little, she was born on September 30th, 2006 – so that makes her 2 years and one month – she appears to have given birth to a batch of puppies in the past since her nipples are very large, she is tiny – her first weight was at 55 pounds and if she is NOT pregnant than she definitely needs to lose 8 to 10 pounds because she does not have a waist line. I am told that she came from a home that had an un-neutered male and lived with him, we believe she also lived with her daughter Margaret. The breeder gave her to a shelter. So the shelter called RAGOM and here they are.

Please keep watching this site. Tuesday I will be able to tell you if she is pregnant and what her heart murmur score is – the grades are 1 to 6 – worst case scenario is a 6 = best case is a 1.

Shelia (AKA Chicka) continues to do wonderful.  She is so very bubbly in the morning now and just cannot get enough love right away.  But after that good 3 to 5 minutes of love the day can start as normal.

Did you get to meet Shelia at the Pepco event?  She did so wonderful, she met children, adults, dogs of all shapes and sizes and did not mind any of them!  This is great news!  Stevee Rae was her side kick for the day and they both enjoyed a LOT of attention throughout the afternoon.  For all of those that we missed and asked about her, I am so sorry we missed you.  We love meeting everyone and you just never know when you are going to find that perfect home for her.

Come and meet Shelia at the next event – Annie’s party!  We will once again be there with Shelia and Stevee Rae as her side kick, so come give Annie your love and come and say Hi to Shelia and meet the princess of our home.

Can you believe it is the first of the year already and Shelia has not found her forever home yet – but she is still looking. Shelia was so brave and went on a home visit yesterday and really did well.  The adult son was there and Shelia amazed Cindee (my daughter) and I by going right over to him begging to be petted. I thought I was going to start crying right there.  I was so excited to see this.  By the time we ended our home visit Shelia was starting to go around the house and pick up toys and bring back to me to hide them. She was so brave and I believe when she finds the right home, it will only take her a day or two to settle in. But there definitely has to be another dog in the pack. So please if you have a dog and a fenced in yard and are looking for a potty trained little Red golden, I have the girl for you!  Shelia is a pure joy. Yep she still thinks she should steal all clothing on the floor and bring shoes to her bed, but she is doing better on the chewing and getting there. She will need a crate of her own (she likes the wire ones) or to share with another dog – she loves to share!  Shelia is such an easy girl to have around. Here are a couple of pictures I caught of our RAGOM Rescue “Stevee Rae” who is completely blind and Shelia napping in the big crate.

Shelia had an excellent Christmas – she got her own Christmas stocking and we also got her a toy that she LOVES – you have seen it in other pictures but now she has one of her own.  We call it a Pacifier because she will hold on to one of the soft ends in her mouth and walks around with it everywhere.  She just loves this thing.

We took a few other pictures of Stevee, Sophee and Shelia – they are all RAGOM dogs and very tired dogs!  They cannot believe the weather outside today, so they have been out playing and running.  It is so fun to watch Shelia now that she is a confident young dog.  She loves playing, she loves pets and kisses and most of all, she loves to snuggle.

You still have to watch Shelia very carefully if she has not gotten a walk or a good play in.  When she gets bored, she tends to be bad, she will chew on anything and everything.  So we make sure she gets the exercise she needs so she just wants to sleep in the house.  A tired puppy is a happy puppy you know!

Shelia know “lay down and sit now”  She also knows Kennel up since she gets kenneled when we are not home.  She also sleeps in the kennel at night, but that is by her choice.  We have a kennel in the bed room and she goes right in to sleep there.  Shelia so desperately wants and needs a home of her own.  I hope if you have been following her story, you may actually look at this small princess.  She is so tiny and wonderful.  She weighs about 45 pounds now that she has lost all her baby weight and is in good shape.  She eats about a cup of food in the morning and then again at night.  She needs a fence definitely – no exception, she would do better with another dog.

Please let me know if you are interested in meeting Shelia, she is so very easy to have around and just loves to please everyone.

Shelia’s babies are slowly leaving her and I don’t think she minds one bit. It just means that she can go to any place in the house she wants. Well that is as long as she is supervised because she has decided that she is a puppy herself. Shelia has made huge strides in becoming a fun and loving girl. She is still very small but no longer under weight. She weighed in at 48 pounds at her last appt. She is now completely up to date on her shots and her spay incision looks great and is completely healed.

As you can see from the pictures she loves hanging out with the other girls and they do give her confidence and they are showing her how to play which is really cool to see. Shelia still hates to be outside and would rather go out potty and then run back into the house.

Shelia will definitely need to be crated until she learns that she cannot chew on everything when her new mom and dad are at work, at night we have a crate in our bedroom but the door is open, she still chooses to sleep in the crate though. She may think she wants to sleep on the bed, but I am not starting that bad habit.

Shelia met a lot of great people again at PetCo, but still she has not found her forever home, so we will just keep looking, I know it is out there, so if you have another dog and a fenced in yard, I would love for you to meet Shelia.

Hi – My name is Sophee Bear, you can see me (the pretty blond laying with Shelia) in the picture below. I am the one who is teaching Shelia how to be a great Golden and I am here to tell you she is a really quick learner! Shelia has learned that when we go to the door to go outside, we have to sit until mom says it is okay to go outside, well once we get that okay, Shelia, Stevee and I run as fast as we can! Stevee cannot go to the very tip like Shelia and I, but man can Shelia run fast and she always tries to beat me.

Shelia still gets in trouble because she now acts like a puppy. Mom says that Shelia is just now learning that it is not okay to counter surf, take shoes and clothes. She does not hurt the shoes or clothes, she just likes having them by her. I know this because I watch her and laugh when she brings them to the dog bed that we love to share. Because I know she is going to be told that is not what you are suppose to go and play with. Toys, we have a ton of them, but she just wants to hang out with the shoes.

Shelia is working on being brave when we go outside. It is tough for her. When we put a leash on her she goes into panic mode. I am not sure if she thinks that she will be taken away and never have a nice place to come home to or what. But I told her not to worry because foster mom and dad said they would never leave her where she was not as loved as she is here. Shelia is getting to go on Home Visits now so she can meet all kinds of nice people so she is not scared.

Last week she got to go on two home visits and once she got into the car, mom said she did great. It’s those doors that are scary with a leash on. So mom says they will continue working on it. Shelia still wants to find her forever home. She needs a fenced in yard since she cannot potty on a leash, she needs to have someone who will be gentle and kind. She is very shy around men, she is very scared of them until she gets to know them. My dad loves Shelia and now Shelia thinks he is all right, which is so fun to see. Dad comes up to her and she will sit down and ask for some pets. Good Shelia.

Well that is Shelia in a nut shell, she is a wonderful girl and I will miss her when she leaves, but I do understand that she needs a home to call her own too.

Sophee Bear for Mom

Saturday, November 29, 2008

Shelia is doing great, we had a tough beginning of the week, but now, Shelia is doing wonderful. On Tuesday Shelia went in and got spayed to help with an infection that was making her pretty sick. That meant we had to wean the puppies. So Shelia has had to deal with her incision healing and being full of milk. So we have made her as comfortable as possible. We know it is working because today has been a great day.

She has been showing us this new toy and walking around with it showing everyone she can. We tell her how pretty it is and she just beams with pleasure. She is also going outside with the big girls again, she loves running around outside with Sophee – it is just one lap and she is done, which I like, she should not be running but it lets her legs stretch that way.

Shelia is going to be a small girl, he ideal weight will be around 50 pounds and she is very red. She has wonderful light tan feathers on her rear and front legs. Her tail is not always going.

She is scared of men and they have to win her over before she trusts them. Rick has no problem now, but her new mom and dad need to know, you must take everything slow.  She still needs to learn how to walk on a leash. She is learning sit and down. But again we are doing everything slow. She is just the most gentle creature.

She would do best with a fenced yard since, but with the right family, we can work with them about a leash.  If you are interested in this little girl, please let us know so we can meet!  She is ready to go home and cannot wait to find her perfect family.

Shelia continues to grow and venture on her own.  She was not feeling great on Friday so we went to the vet to get her checked out.  We found another pup that was not born so she will go in and get spayed and get the last mass of pup out.  Poor thing no wonder she has not been feeling great.

We noticed she started to bleed again and that was our tip, she is a little anemic, but not bad, so we got on some meds right away. They seem to be helping already, the tough part is getting the three pus weaned while she is still with us.

Shelia is still looking for the special family that will give her lots of love, help her grow with confidence and show her the real way of the world.

Shelia would really like a fence, but it is only because she has a terrible time pottying on a leash and being from a mill for the first month, she will have to be on a leash.  I honestly do not think she would run, but if she got scared she could.

Shelia does not play with dogs, so she could have another friend or be by herself, I think she would learn faster with another dog, but again, she really does not interact with any of the girls here.  She needs to have a safe spot, a kennel or under a table, something.  When she is in that safe spot no one is allowed to bother her.  Because that is her Spot.

Shelia is tiny – she weighs almost 50 pounds but she is a very petite and beautiful red girl!

Shelia will be coming to Petco in Burnsville on the 13th and had a great time at the last one so I hope more people will come and visit and give this great girl a chance.

Shelia (Chicka) here – so foster mom let her daughter Cindee come over and feed all of us dogs.  She is a GREAT babysitter.  She fed us all in the right area’s and put me in the mud room, right where I am suppose to be.  Well the best part of all this is, the food is in the mud room, so I opened the bucket and got a LOT more food Yes I was pretty sick to my tummy, but boy was that good food.

However, I think Aunty Cindee got the worst of it – Foster mom was not happy with her at all.  I think she said a few choice words I was not suppose to hear.  Aunty Cindee said it was not my fault though and promised she would feed me again this Saturday!  Oh I cannot wait, because than I will get extra food again, I know how to play her!

Thanks for checking in and I cannot wait to meet a family to call my own! SheliaShelia (Chicka) here – so foster mom let her daughter Cindee come over and feed all of us dogs.

Oh good! More food!

I have NOT been eating this food!

Shelia (AKA Chicka) went to PetSmart and met a lot of wonderful families and is very excited to meet a few in the near future!

Shelia is doing great, she is coming out of her shell and now lets the other dogs around her babies.  She continues to eat 6 to 8 cups of food every day to keep up with her fat babies. Her babies have definitely taken up all her time, but she is now ready to move on to the next phase of her life.

Shelia is looking for a family that will give her guidance and love. She does not know her basic commands but will learn them quickly once she is away from her babies. She likes to steal things, shoes, socks, toys, you name it she will take it.  She won’t hurt it, but she wants to bring it to her house to make sure it is safe.

Shelia can be either an only dog or have another dog as a friend. She is not really into playing with other dogs, but she does go out with all of ours. Could you be her family????  She is very excited to find her own home and THANK YOU everyone for coming to meet her at PetSmart.

Shelia – Formerly known as Chicka is doing great.  We are watching her come out of her shell every day.  Shelia loves to play with toys now and will go to the toy bin and bring everyone of them in her box with the babies.

Shelia loves to run out and go potty and then comes right back in.  She does not want to spend a lot of time out there, she would rather be in with us and get pets and love.  One bad habit she has is she is a jumper, she wants attention so badly that she will jump.  We work on that at all times, but honestly we have not made a lot of progress yet.

Shelia is still looking for her home and she wants everyone to know she is a very petite young lady that is looking forward to having a family of her own.  She is small, I am guessing she will weigh around 35 to 40 pounds when she is done feeding the puppies.  Shelia will be getting spayed in a month or so and then she will be ready to go home around the 1st of December.

So come and meet Shelia at the next event – we will be there from 11 to 12:30!~~

Monday, November 3, 2008

Shelia is doing incredible.  She is feeding her babies and making them fat and happy.  Shelia is also coming out of her shell.  She now will play with toys, play with Sophee outside and come up to us and ask to be loved.

She is still jumping up for attention so we are working at breaking that.  She desperately would like to find her forever home and we are planning to be at Petsmart in Richfield on the 14th – we will be there from 11 to 12:30.

Shelia is a very small girl – she maybe weighs 35 pounds and is very thin and trim.  She is producing a lot of milk right now and will be spayed in early December when we have her fat little pups weaned.

Please let us know if you would like to meet this very sweet and loveable little girl.  She is tiny and very golden.  Deep beautiful red.  Everyone who sees her cannot believe how beautiful she is.

She really needs a fenced yard, but she can have or not have another dog.

The picture is of Shelia and one puppy is Electra!

What a difference a day makes – this morning Shelia had her pups. The good news is she has 3 puppies that lived – the bad news is she had 6 pups that died. But she is happy and so proud of her pups:

Pink – Electra – 08-523
Yellow – Lexus – 08-524
Blue – Charger – 08-525

Mom and puppies are doing well and now everyone will be looking for their special home. Everyone can go to their new home right before Christmas!

Thursday, October 23, 2008

Shelia continues to amaze us each day by not eating a lot and doing a lot of sleeping. She is completely potty trained even with being pregnant which is just amazing. I think she will make a great mom as long as we can get enough food in her to produce enough milk.

Shelia and Sophee continue to take care of each other which sorta ticks Stevee Rae off. Because Sophee is supposed to take care of Stevee. But, not to worry, we make sure Sophee splits her time in-between the two.

Shelia has one of the kindest temperaments I have ever met – she is so laid back and lets us do whatever we need to do without a fuss. She started playing with toys yesterday and that was great to see. She was tossing ropes in the air and just having some fun.

Her temp has fallen and so we are hopeful this will be the weekend of the pups.

Saturday, October 18, 2008

Shelia (AKA Chicka) is holding her own – still no pups and still having a tough time eating. We have tried everything from Hamburger and Rice, Hamburger Patties, Liver Sausage, Chicken Soup, Vanilla Ice Cream, lots of moist dog foods, you name it we are trying it. I think she will eat everything once and then she is done.

Oh we did find out one new thing about Shelia that is sooo cute. When Shelia is really excited and happy, she has the biggest Smile – Okay it actually looks like she is really mad, because she shows her teeth and crinkles her nose, but it is her way of smiling at you saying HI. I will try to get a picture.

Well hopefully I will be writing more in the next few days telling you how many pups we have.

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

Shelia went to the vet today and had her Ultra Sound by Dr. Ralph. We have about a week before they are due and so we need to get her to eat and gain some major weight. She still has a tough time eating. She will eat about ½ cup of food and quit so we are trying to feed her every hour and ½ or so.

Her heart is in good condition but does have a murmur. Good news – only a grade level 1 or 2 and will not really pose her any problems in life.

Shelia would like to have another dog to keep her company at her new home. She really follows the three resident dogs around. However she is possessive of the stuffed animals – I think she feels they are her babies. So we have taken them away for now. She sleeps in a crate very nicely at night and hangs out with foster dad during the day.

At first we did not think she was potty trained, but now that we are not walking her outside with the leash she goes out and goes potty right away and has not had an accident. Shelia can NOT have an invisible fence – even when we touch her she jumps so an invisible fence would NOT be fair to her.

Obviously Shelia will be hanging out for the next few months with us, but she will continue looking for her forever family. So just let us know if you are interested in her and you could come and visit her and even get to know her.
