Shelby 09-358

Profile

My name is Shelby and I'm 5. I'm a Golden Retriever/Black Lab mix and everyone I meet tells me I'm beautiful. I arrived at my foster parents house a few days ago and what a journey to get here! My original mom had to move away and sent me to live with a friend who didn't know how to take care of me. The RAGOM people finally found me and after fixing me up and sent me to Minneapolis to look for my forever home. Whew!

After all that moving around I'm a little anxious and take a pill every meal to help me relax. My foster mom says it is getting a little better every day. I'm really lucky because my foster dad works from home so there is always someone to be with me. I also am getting used to my new roommate Henry. He is a 6 month old Golden Retriever and has a lot of energy. Growing up I didn't have many friends so I'm not very socialized. I don't seem to mind older dogs, but the younger ones put me on edge. I think I'd do best when I don't have to share my family with another pup.

I'm a bit of a picky eater but when I find something I like, don't blink! I also like treats of ANY kind. I went to obedience class for the first time this week and I'm very smart. I know how to sit and I know my name, and we are working on down and stay.

My foster parents tell me that I'm really a great girl. I'm house trained and crate trained, I love going for walks, watching TV, and cuddling up with my foster parents! The car is my favorite and I get in and out all by myself. I like to chase balls but we are still working on the retrieval part. Foster mom says it's giving her some good exercise. I'm not sure if I like water yet, but I'll let you know as soon as I find out.

My ideal forever home would give me a lot of love. I would do best as an only dog and would love if someone could be home with me.

I'm still learning a lot about being a dog and will let you know as soon as I learn more.

Hello Everybody, Shelby here! What a great weekend.  I've settled in nicely at my foster home and am hardly anxious at all anymore.  I guess I just take a few days to get used to a new place and new people.  Even my roommate Henry is growing on me.  He is teaching me how to play and to chase and wrestle.

This weekend my foster parents took Henry and me to this great place called a Dog Park!  There were all kinds of dogs to sniff and people to pet me.  I was a little shy at first, but soon I was chasing balls with the best of them (though still not retrieving).  Foster Dad said I was really well behaved and never wandered away and always came when he called my name!  I really hope we go back soon.

I discovered that I'm a runner!  Foster Mom wanted to take me for a walk around the lake on Sunday, but I had other ideas.  Once I got used to the leash and this thing called a gentle leader I was ready to stretch my legs!  We ended up jogging for 3 miles.  I could have gone faster but FM isn't a sprinter - except for that one time I saw a squirrel...(okay, there were a few times I saw squirrels).  I also discovered that I love the water.  I'm not so sure about swimming yet, but I'm an expert floater.

All this exercise is great for me.  I currently weigh 66lbs but should really be around 60.  To help me get my girlish figure back, I'm on a bit of diet.  Which is really sad since I finally found some food that I like!  I'm on a raw diet of beef & veggies (make sure it is beef and not chicken since i don't like that at all).

At home, I still like to cuddle on the couch and watch TV.  I prefer comedies, but will tolerate drama if you pet me.  When I'm standing, my tail is always wagging and it moves enough air that you can get rid of your fans (and some of your old glassware).

I've included a few new photos.  I'm not much of a poser for the camera and prefer the action shot.  FD said he will work on some less blurry pictures this week.
