Shorty (Midas/Shorty 08-151)

Hi Everybody

Announcing new boy on the block!!!!!! His name is "Midas" and he just came to our home today 03/14/08. He is a beautiful red, weighed in at 58 lbs. which the vet said was just right. He only needed a lite bath before I brought him home, no matting and his hair is in good condition, smooth and a wavy red. He did the typical happy Golden meeting with my two resident dogs, wag tail, do a little sniffing, and look the house over. All is well and he is sleeping on the couch with my wife as she does her sewing. The only thing that he needs is a slight operation on one eye, it is the condition where some eye lashes grow, and then turn under the lid. The vet said it will not be a big deal. He checked out with no other problems. No accidents, and no chewing items. He rode in the car 130 miles to the vet, then 30 miles to get his beautiful hair washed, and then a couple more miles to my home. The entire trip took about five hours including vet stop etc. and he did fine. After I get to know him better, will let you all know how he is doing.

Good Morning,

Just a short update on Midas 08-151. This morning he went on a three mile walk-run with my wife and he did great! We have a Border collie that runs everyday and they ran together fine. He needs some adjusting to walking and running on leash. My wife Mary said he did not pull, but when he saw something in the woods that he was interested in, hang on, there again just a little training.

Last night about two a.m. Mary had her pager go off for a 911 first responder call. It usually entails jumping out of bed, get some clothes on, get equipment and take off. This was all new to Midas. We left and he had free roam for about one and a half hours. When we got back he was standing there to greet us at the door with tail wagging. He went outside with our dogs, did his job and back in and to bed.

As you can see from picture he was crate trained. This is how he slept during the evening, and we did not tell him to go in. Mary just fed the gang, and she found out no resource guarding, and does not see any problem eating our dog food.

He must feel he belongs, because he just walked over and grabbed one of the bones we have laying around and started chewing. Did I mention he has nice white teeth? The shelter he came from said his name was "Shorty" and he does answer to that. So I guess he will be "Shorty" to us, and"Midas" to the rest of the world.
