Sienna has arrived in RAGOM land from South Dakota. This beautiful energetic girl is 3 years old and a puppy at heart. She was spayed and cared for by her family. The reason for surrender is seizures. She has sparkling brown eyes and pearly white teeth. She was brought up to date on vaccinations and had the mandatory RAGOM wellness check. The doctor said she is in excellent health. There has been no seizure activity lately. She is on 1/2 tab phenobarbital twice daily. The surrendering owner's vet records indicate she had a couple small seizures last summer and again in Sept. resulting in a visit to the emergency vet. Phenobarbital blood levels and liver function tests will need to be monitored every six months to ensure they stay within the therapeutic range and that no liver damage is occurring. If the phenobarbital levels get too high, liver failure can develop. If they are too low, increased seizure activity may occur. Blood samples are recommended at least every 6 months to ensure blood levels stay within the therapeutic range. She will need this test immediately after adoption. Her meds may need adjusting depending on the frequency. It's very important for Sienna to maintain a low weight (50-55) since the pheno has a tendency to increase the appetite.

Sienna LOVES to fetch balls. This is her preference:

She constantly chews these like bubble gum. Tennis or plastic balls are no match for her strong teeth.

Sienna is 100% house broken and crate trained. She has free roam with occasional crate time depending on the time I'm away. She slept in her "house" the first 2 nights and settled in with our crew last night. She slept through the night, no problems. She understands "sit". We are working on off and down. She ignores our cat. Sienna would do fine as an only dog or with another. I don't think she needs a fence. She rides well in my SUV, tethered for safety. She is very active and has energy to burn. I think she would be an excellent running partner or possibly a candidate for agility. That activity should be discussed with her vet. Sienna is a sweet, fun, crazy girl. She will be a wonderful addition to any family that promises to monitor her health issue.

Sienna with her new family!

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Hey All,

It's me Sienna. Writing my first update. I've been really busy meeting the wildlife.

Playing with my new ball.

Hosting a dog party with some boyz.......Miguel and Pedro.

And sharing cornbread crumbs with my foster sisters.

I've learned new words like "get outta there" "get in here" "5 or 10 more minutes" and then we go back to sleep. "excuse me" "go for a ride" "go for a walk" and my favorite is "where's your ball" & "drop it" I'm getting good at "OFF" & I'm really good at SIT. I probably don't need a crate. Sometime I get asked to go in there when I'm too pesky with the ball. So I just walk in there and chill for a couple min. Sometime I even go in there on my own. And other times me and Meg or Heather take a nap in there.

We are working on "lie down" & staying off the counter. Yup, if there is something on the counter---fair game. If it's food and not put away.....its mine. So far I've scored hot dog and dinner buns and rice krispie bars. And the only trace FM found is the plastic bag....ooops. Shoulda destroyed that evidence, too.

I don't like my feet touched but when I am falling asleep on the couch, FM massages them. So I pretend not to notice that I like it. I'm okay for brushing me and I flop down belly up but I'd rather chase my balls......outside.

Thought I should let you know that I had a little seizure a couple weeks ago. I don't remember it. FM said it happened when I was sleeping. She said it was mild. My last recorded one was in Sept. last year. I take my 1/2 pill with every meal. I don't even know it's in there cuz I get another Omega 3 pill that I gobble up, too. FM said it was time to get my pheno levels checked so we went to the vet. I have excellent news. On a scale of 15 to 45, I am at 17. Ain't that cool. It means I'm doing really great. The lower the score, the better, so no change in my medicine. We refilled my med. cuz it was time. FM says it costs about $10-$12 a month to keep the seizures under control. And my levels test every 6 months cost about $150. Maybe depending on a new vet they would only recommend me getting tested once a year. It's just a little needle prick and I am so worth it.

Rumor here is that I might hop or fly to Iowa to another RAGOM foster so Penny 13-024 can get to the eye specialist in the Twin Cities.

Otherwise I could stay here until I get adopted. So I'm still looking for a family.....just in case you forgot about me. I'm really doing well and very comfortable here. Maybe my new family is in Iowa. Or I might even come back to MN. Ya never know. I will miss Heather and Meggers. They taught me to share and behave and helped me understand all my new words.

Hoppy Easter Everyone.  See ya later........................

I can't believe there's no interest in this beautiful girl. Don't let the seizure activity scare you off. It's common in any age dog. There is no rhyme or reason to them. I understand they happen most often at night when sleeping. Sienna has a vet appointment next week to check her pheno levels. She had a mild seizure earlier this week. Her first with us. As I understand it, her last seizure was 6 months ago.

Sienna LOVES chasing and retrieving any ball. It's best to always have 2 in play. She retrieves one, spits it out and chases another.

So as you see, Sienna loves backyard play. She doesn't have many requirements in her new home.............just lots of balls, hours of play and a chucker

to save your back and extend the distance.

Sienna is still a young pup. She has no problem taking bones or toys away from my girls. Heather and Meg just give it up. She will be 3 years old April 28. She loves treats but we are stingy with them to keep her weight under control. I don't know which would win over if put to the test.....a treat or a ball. I think she would steal the treat and grab the ball before you blink.

This girl loves walks and accepted the gentle leader in about 5 minutes.

Otherwise she is a strong puller. She approaches strangers with caution and then flops down for a belly rub.

Our Sassy Sienna in her favorite corner. Isn't she beautiful?
